She threw the phone aside, muttering, “Can’t you rely me with a few more words? Fuddy-duddy!”
As her words fell, footsteps of Maggie were sounded outside the door.
“Are you asleep, Miss Emma? Mr. Lewis told me to ask you to go downstairs for dumplings.” Asked
Maggie, standing at the door.
Hearing the word of dumplings, Emma felt headache.
When she was in Britain, she cooked many times for Ivan for he liked to eat dumplings.
She used not to like dumplings, and because if that, she felt dizzy when she saw dumplings.
But in order to consider the feelings of her grandpa, Emma lazily climbed up from the bed and shouted
to the door, “Ok, I will there.”
Maggie heard it and then her footsteps quickly disappeared in the stair.
After a sneeze, Emma felt pain in her stomach and felt dizzy when she stood up.
….
In the dinning room of the first floor, Lewis scooped the source to his plate with his spoon and said to
Emma who was going downstairs, “Come and taste Maggie’s dumplings, it is fill with seafood. You will
love it.”
Emma made a sneeze. She was reluctant but still sat at the table and picked up the chopsticks.
Maggie helped her with the source and noticed she did not look good when she looked up at Emma.
Before having the first dumplings, Emma could not help but make a sneeze.
Lewis looked at her, stretched out his hand to feel her forehead and then sand to Maggie, “Get the
thermometer.”
When Emma grabbed the thermometer from her armpit in a daze, she was stunned.
39.7 degree!
Maggie was not in a mood to have dumplings now, but went to get febrifuge and cook ginger soup.
It was not until 2 o’clock in the morning, Emma’s fever subsided.
Lying in bed, Emma was covered with two think quilts with the help of Maggie and soon she got sweat
all over, even so, she still got runny nose and sneezed.
When she looked outside the window, she got the firework became less and the sound of firecrackers
was not as loud as before. It was a new year and she had a heart quaking birthday.
…
She had a sound sleep this night and it was not until ten and half in the next day, she woke up in a
daze.
After the fever, she got weal all over and her stomach got growling.
She put of the fluffy clothes and went downstairs for food before she washed her face.
Because Grandpa Lewis had taken care of her last night, he was still in sleep. But as she walked out of
her bedroom, she heard conversation downstairs.
She was stunned first and stopped in the stairs and looked down over the handrails.
Expect for Grandpa Lewis, there was an unknown man on the sofa.
He was in his 30s wearing a loren gray suit, which was fit to his body shape. This color could not be
handled easily, it would be flatulent for order man and would be exaggerated of younger man. But it
was perfect in this man.
His moves were elegant and decent. His side face was handsome and his body was in a good shape.
After appreciating this man, she then felt familiar, but she could not remember when she had seen him.
There was growling again from her stomach. Whatever, she’d better ger some food from Maggie.
Emma wanted to pass around the living room and went straight to the kitchen, but she got the attention
of Lewis and that man.
That man was talking with Lewis, but as he saw Emma, he stopped.
Lewis glanced at Emma and said angrily, “You are not polite, come over!”
The man fixed his eyes on Emma and showed a faint smile on his face.
As Emma looked at him, she found that this man was really good looking. He looked nice and modest,
she did not dislike him.
Reluctantly, Emma walked to the sofa and then stopped there.
Lewis held her arms and pulled her to his side and introduced her to the man, “Harrell, this is Emma,
my granddaughter, she has just back from Brian and you have never seen her before…”
With that, he glanced at Emma again and said, “He is Harrell, a son of my friend…”
Harrell?!
As his voice fell, Emma turned pale on face, she was shocked like a frightened kitten and almost
jumped up.
She was obviously surprised and looked at him speechlessly.
She regretted a lot at this moment. Why she was hungry at this moment, why she went downstairs at
this moment? No wonder he looked familiar.
Harrel noticed that Emma was panic. He took back his sights and nodded with a composed smile.
Emma felt her heartbeat missing a beat. She kept her eyes on her for fear that he would do something
so that Lewis would find something wrong.
However, Maggie came over at this hour.
She came to Lewis and handed him the phone, “This is Mr. Mike’s call from France.”
Emma knew it was her cousin called to say happy new year.
Lewis took the phone with a smile, and said to Harrell, “You talk to Emma first, I go answer the phone.”
Harrell nodded and saw Lewis going upstairs.
Emma stood in the front of Harrell stiffly. She did not know if she should go or stay.
She was not sure why Harrell was there.
Maggie was afraid that Lewis would fall down since he was answering the phone while going upstairs,
so she went to support him.
Seeing Lewis and Maggie disappeared at the door of the study on the second floor, Emma turned
around and looked at Harrell.
Sure enough, Harrell was staring at her with a modest smile.
“It’s been three years, how are you?” His voice was pleasing to hear.
Compared to him three years ago, he did change. He had a new hair style was more mature and
composed with noble temperament.
Emma sat down on the sofa opposite him and asked, staring at him, “Have you told my grandpa that I
looked for you that year?”
Harrell shook his head, “No.”
Hearing that, Emma took a sigh of relief.
Looking at her silently, Harrell knew what she was worried about.
As Emma was to say something, Lewis has walked down from the second floor.
Like sitting on a hot iron, Emma jumped up from the sofa, turned around and wanted to go upstairs.
