Eliana and Maurice were left alone after Silas departed.
They had made love the previous night. They later had a big quarrel about half an hour ago, and parted
ways in anger. Now, they were standing together in awkward silence.
Finally, Maurice cleared his throat and broke the silence.
“What was it that you just said to Silas? That kid is very strong-willed and stubborn. How did you
manage to convince him so easily to go to school?”
Eliana felt a little sense of pride. It was surprising to her that Maurice could have problems raising the
child, even though he was quite shrewd and disciplined.
She chuckled and said, “It’s my little secret. Besides, it won’t make sense to you even if I told you.”
Maurice was stunned by her response. He couldn’t find any words to refute her statement.
He thought about the report that one of his subordinates had told him about Silas. The mood swings.
The constant sense of gloom that hung around the boy. Maurice was lost in thought for a brief moment.
Then he stared at Eliana and said, “I really don’t know how to deal with kids. Silas’ parents left him
when he was very young. He almost had no friends before meeting your kids. Ever since you left with
your kids, he has been very depressed.”
Eliana’s face became pale with sadness. It was her turn to remain silent. Her heart was heavy with the
burden of the guilt that was torturing her.
She knew she was wrong and selfish to have taken a decision that was not beneficial to the kids.
She wanted to keep a good distance from Maurice, so she had deprived the three children of the
friendship that they worked at building. It was quite unfair to the children.
Noticing that she was lost in deep thoughts, Maurice quickly had an idea. So, he turned to her and said,
“I know you love the kids so much. However, you should know that they miss Silas. Otherwise, the
three of them wouldn’t have sneaked out to meet behind your back. Besides, I’m sure that Aileen
probably has other friends in the previous kindergarten, right?”
Maurice was a very smart man. A few words from him started to make Eliana reconsider her decision.
Somehow, he was quite right. Eliana could recall that the kids had never been as depressed as they
had been recently since she came back to the country with them.
How about if she decided to send the kids back to their previous kindergarten? Would that work out for
them?
Still… They wouldn’t be able to…
“What are you thinking? You think it’s a bad idea to send them back to their old school?” It was almost
as if Maurice could read her mind perfectly. He said in a confident voice, “As long as you have decided
to take that decision, I can help you make it happen.”
Eliana opened her mouth after listening to Maurice, but no words came out. She instinctively knew that
she ought to refuse his offer. She could not afford to have anything to do with Maurice, but with the
thoughts of her children reeling through her mind, she could not completely turn him down.
Maurice didn’t press the issue further, but waited for her to make the final decision.
Just as she was still caught up in this dilemma, Corbin made his way into the room.
“Boss, I just came to remind you that you have an important meeting today and you’re going to be
late…”
See a way out of her present dilemma, Eliana hurriedly said, “You should go to work now. I’m leaving.”
As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she wanted to take her leave, but she was not given the
chance.
Maurice suddenly grabbed her arm and asked, “Where are you headed to this time? I said I could help
you and I wasn’t just talking about the children’s education. I can get you back into the Moran Group.”
Help her back into the Moran Group?
Eliana could remember Earle’s words again and all she wanted to do was to get rid of Maurice.
She might accept his help with the kids, but there was nothing that would make her go back to the
Moran Group.
“Not a chance. I’m not going back there. I have my own career now. I won’t come back to work in your
company,” Eliana said with a hint of excitement in her voice.
“You started your own career?” Maurice glanced at her, his face sullen. “Didn’t you dream of being a
jewelry designer? Are you going to give it up now?”
Eliana was stunned by the bluntness of his words. She was so angry that she snapped at him, “Yes, I
quit.”
Even though she had said those words in a fit of anger, it was her decision.
She had always wanted to be a jewelry designer since she was a child and she was full of regret now
that she knew she wasn’t going to achieve that dream. However, inheriting the factory would make her
late father happy with her.
Maurice stared hard at Eliana’s face. He could sense her strong resolve and surmised that something
was wrong.
What problems had she faced?
He was quite certain that she loved jewelry design. It was her greatest passion.
When he had taken her to see the pink diamond necklace that she had designed, he had seen the
excitement and satisfaction in her eyes. When she was working on jewelry design, she was always
dedicated and consistent.
But now, she suddenly decided that she didn’t want to be a jewelry designer anymore and was giving
up her dreams?
Maurice couldn’t just believe it. He decided that there was something behind her refusal. A bigger
secret that she was keeping away from him.
“Eliana, I don’t care about this new career of yours. Where do you intend to go now? I have to see you
again tonight!”
