ANUSHIYA SMITH

I thanked God for saving me from a great storm. If the driver didn't open the door at a correct time I'd

have been dead by now and cursing god for what I did. Teaching him Tamil made me feel happier than

ever but when he was all excited about knowing the meaning of that I felt embarrassed. It's not even a

bad word but still, I couldn't say that to him.

The next day morning, when I woke up as usual I traced beside me and realized he was gone as usual.

But I got a smell of coffee on the table beside me. Not only coffee there was also a letter under the

coffee.

Wait. What? I shouted inside me.

Before taking a sip from the coffee I took that letter and unfolded it. Before reading I smelled the paper

as if it was a strawberry cake, I giggled at my thought and started reading it.

Dear Anushiya,

I've to say you something. "You woke up sleepyhead! Good morning!" I'm kidding. Yesterday, I liked

spending time with you, knowing about you, and especially learning Tamil with you. You know one

thing, I'll be going to be the first person who learned a language without knowing the meaning of what I

was saying because I'm trusting you that'd not be any vulgar words when I use that on any other native

speaking people like my mom. You might be wondering what's wrong with me. I just started writing a

letter for my... wife? No. A friend? Ammu. From now on I'm going to call you ammu. My friend. Let's

start our journey my dear friend, Ammu.

I trust you.

Yours lovingly,

Arjun.

When I read that my heart rises in a good way and my mind wasn't working still like someone gave my

mind thousands of work at the same time and it was devastating to concentrate on. "Ammu?" I

whispered as biting my lips to control my huge grin. How does he know my nickname my family used to

call me? I liked that. "I swear I'm not teaching you any vulgar words," I promised as if he was in the

same room sitting beside me. "Let's start our journey my dear friend, Ammu," I repeated his last

sentence. I have no words when I saw the word "I trust you." for what teaching him Tamil, not bad

words? I laughed. "Yours lovingly, Arjun." Arjun. Arjun. Arjun. My mind kept repeating his name. For

some reason, I kissed that paper and shoved it to my chest where my heart was beating faster as if I

was hugging him.

Suddenly a thought hit me. Is this a love letter or a letter to a friend?
