Jennifer remained silent, her expression unchanged.

The assistant rolled her eyes at Walter. “You are such an arrogant and calculating man, Mr. Vissers.

Are you trying to ride on Jennifer’s popularity because she has just won the Best Actress Award?”

Walter ignored her sarcasm and kept his gaze on Jennifer. “I truly am sorry, Jennifer. Please give me

another chance! Without you, my life is meaningless. Will you come back to me?”

Jennifer merely smiled at Walter. When he cheated on her in the past, she had already seen through

his true character.

She would never believe anything he said now.

Jennifer remembered how mercilessly Gwendolyn had dealt with the cheating man and his wicked

mistress. Slowly, she retrieved an exquisite little dagger from the drawer, a memento from the drama

she had just finished filming.

Seeing the dagger in her hands, Walter said worriedly, “Be careful. Don’t cut yourself. It would break

my heart.”

A chill ran down Jennifer’s spine as she handed him the dagger.

She abandoned her previous innocence and said calmly, “Since you claim that life isn’t worth living

without me, why don’t you prove your love by hurting yourself with this dagger? This is your way of

showing that you truly love me.”

Walter’s face turned pale as he stared at her in shock.

How could this silly girl not be easily fooled this time?

He cautiously accepted the dagger from her as he was afraid of getting injured.

“Jennifer, if I really die, we’ll never be together. Are you truly willing to let that happen?”

“But if you don’t die, how can you prove that you truly love me? How will I know if you have repented?”

“Well…” Walter hesitated, pressing the blade against his wrist but not daring to make a move.

Jennifer reminded him, “A mere scratch doesn’t count. You have to sever the artery and let the blood

flow profusely. Only then will I believe you.”

The thought of the pain made Walter tremble. The dagger slipped from his hand and fell to the ground.

He grasped onto Jennifer’s dress and pleaded, “Please don’t do this. Let’s go back to how things were

before—no! I’ll treat you even better than before! Just give me another chance!”

Jennifer lifted her high heel and kicked him forcefully.

“Get lost! I won’t believe any of your sweet talking ever again! From now on, it’s better for you to steer

clear of me. If you dare pester me, I will fight back with all my might! I’ll make sure you lose everything

and live in hunger.”

Walter stood there in stunned silence, his gaze fixed on her intense expression as she uttered those

harsh words.

Is she still the Jennifer I once knew?

“Jennifer, I—”

Before he could continue, Jennifer yelled, “Get lost! If you continue to bother me, I’ll report you for

harassment!”

The manager and assistant had menacing expressions as they dragged Walter away.

Having regained her peace, Jennifer retrieved her phone and took a photo of the trophy to send

Treyton.

Jennifer texted: Thank you, Mr. Harris, for your guidance. This is the answer sheet for this semester.

Are you satisfied?

Less than a minute later, she received a reply from Treyton.

Treyton texted: You will make me even more satisfied tonight.

Jennifer instantly blushed.

This man is becoming so…

She put down her phone and continued to touch up her makeup. Treyton would come to pick her up

later, so she wouldn’t be taking the bus back. Her manager and assistant had already left.

The entire lounge soon became completely quiet.

Just then, she heard the sound of a doorknob turning. When Jennifer caught a glimpse of a pair of

men’s leather shoes standing not far from her, she thought Walter had come back.

She said in an irritable tone, “Walter, are you dumb or deaf?”

The man standing at the door didn’t respond and remained motionless.

Puzzled by his lack of response, Jennifer turned her head to look. It was a face she had never seen

before.

“Who are you?”

The man bowed respectfully and replied, “Ms. Weller, Mr. Craig would like to see you. Please follow

me.”

“Craig Newton?”

The award ceremony had ended nearly half an hour ago, and the venue was silent.

Treyton drove over to fetch Jennifer home.

After sending her a message, he waited patiently in the garage. Five minutes passed, but she was still

nowhere to be seen.

When he tried to call her, it went straight to voicemail.

His brows furrowed, and he put on his mask before heading upstairs to look for her.

When Treyton spotted the sign indicating Jennifer’s exclusive lounge, he pushed the door open and

found it empty.

He immediately called his assistant, Elisha, and instructed, “Check the surveillance. Jennifer is

missing!”

Jennifer was forcefully taken back to the Newton residence by the bodyguard.

The sky was dark. She stood at the entrance of the Newton residence, her heart consumed by a

bewildering sense of uncertainty.

“Why did Craig Newton have you bring me here? What does he want?”

The bodyguard kept silent. Instead, he gestured for her to enter, implying that she would understand

once she went inside.

Jennifer stood still and took out her phone to send a message to Treyton. However, her phone was

promptly seized by the vigilant bodyguard.

“Don’t worry, Ms. Weller. Mr. Craig won’t harm you. He’s a person who upholds justice within the

organization. He would never engage in any illegal activities, especially considering your status as a

renowned celebrity,” the bodyguard assured.

With a mix of trust and doubt, she followed the bodyguard inside.

Finally, at the entrance of the ancestral hall, the bodyguard opened a small door and bowed

respectfully, saying, “Mr. Craig is waiting for you inside. You may enter.”

Jennifer couldn’t fathom what Craig had in mind, but she believed that in a place as solemn and

dignified as the ancestral hall, he wouldn’t engage in any wrongdoing.

She bravely stepped into the expansive ancestral hall, where flickering candlelight illuminated the

ancestral tablets. The air was filled with a delicate scent of sandalwood, providing a refreshing and

pleasant aroma.

Craig was kneeling on a cushion, his eyes slightly narrowed, concealing his amber pupils, as he paid

respects to his ancestors.

Upon hearing footsteps, the man stood up and turned around to look at Jennifer, who was standing by

the door.

He smiled lightly and his voice was amiable as he started, “Ms. Weller, do you remember our last

meeting?”

Jennifer remained expressionless as she snapped, “Please get to the point. I’m busy.”

“All right. I won’t take up much of your time. I’ll be brief.” Approaching Jennifer, he took out a photo from

his pocket and handed it to her. “Take a look at this.”

Jennifer accepted the photo in confusion.

In the picture, a woman in her early thirties was gazing into the camera with a gentle smile.

While her appearance wasn’t stunning, it possessed a clean and pleasant appeal. Most importantly, her

facial features bore a striking resemblance of about seventy to eighty percent to Jennifer.

However, Jennifer was certain she had never worn the outfit shown in the photo or participated in any

modern dramas.

The woman in the photo couldn’t be her.

Growing more suspicious, she lifted her head to meet Craig’s eyes. “What do you mean by this?”

Craig looked at her apologetically and said, “I’m sorry. I’ve failed you as your brother. These past years,

I’ve been occupied with work and paid little attention to the entertainment industry. If not for the day I

saw you at the Jenson residence, I might have still been clueless, and you would have endured over

twenty years of suffering.”

“Brother?”

Jennifer’s heart skipped a beat as she glanced at the photo in her hand and then at Craig. It was hard

to believe the news that Craig was her brother.

“You must be mistaken, Mr. Craig. I grew up in an orphanage. I’m completely unrelated to the Newton

family. It’s impossible for me to suddenly have a brother.”

The man stood with his hands behind his back and turned to face the ancestral tablets as he calmly

recounted the story.

“The Newton family was in turmoil in the year you were born. I was only eight years old at the time. Our

father was on a business trip to Erihal. When he returned, he brought with him a one-year-old

illegitimate child named Charles Newton.”

“What has Charles Newton got to do with me?” Jennifer asked puzzledly.
