Drugging Him

On the verge of tears, Scar was about to speak when the door to the ward swung open. Arnold walked

out, his expression far from pleasant.

Scar quickly stood up, as if he had seen his savior.

“Mr. Carter.”

Josie sat in the chair as Arnold scrutinized her.

The latter, now sober, gave Scar the side-eye. “What’s the matter?”

Scar tiptoed and whispered something into his ear. Arnold’s expression remained unchanged. “Got it.

Take a team to handle it. Get it resolved by tomorrow morning.”

Upon receiving his orders, Scar complied and quickly departed, his actions bearing an uncanny

resemblance to a hasty escape.

Josie could barely hold by her laughter as she looked on.

“Why are you giving him a hard time?” Arnold pressed the elevator button.

“I enjoy it, you know,” Josie said, walking beside him. “He keeps calling me instead. Does he think I

have the aura of Mrs. Carter?”

The mirror in the elevator reflected their two figures, one tall and one petite, making for a peculiar yet

compatible pair.

“Stop messing around.”

Josie kept quiet, only asking after they left the hospital. “Your dad must really hate me, right?”

“What do you think?” Arnold pressed the car key.

“I did it on purpose.”

“Isn’t obvious?” He finally glanced at her. “Are you satisfied now? You’ve avenged Dexter.”

“Why did you bring me here then?” Josie asked with a smile.

Upon hearing this, Arnold, who was just about to open the car door, paused momentarily.

Even though he knew she had ulterior motives, he still brought her along. He himself couldn’t make

sense of the recent contradictions.

Perhaps I want my father to see her.

Seeing Arnold remaining silent, Josie continued, “I’m not doing this for him. I’m doing it for Grandpa.”

Arnold wasn’t sure how much he had taken in. He walked to the other side and opened the passenger

door. “Drive me home.”

Josie stood still. “Scar was just here. Why didn’t you ask him to do it?”

“I forgot.”

Josie was rendered speechless.

Although Arnold owned a house in Wavery, he seldom went back there. He always felt it too empty and

desolate.

Instead, he returned to the country club where he had an exclusive room on the highest floor. Nothing

much had changed from before.

Josie was thirsty. She found a bottle of wine and poured two glasses. “The first time I came here was

with Dexter.”

Arnold took off his shirt and went into the bathroom to take a shower.

Leaning against the door, Josie continued, “You were in a meeting, and it seemed Heather was there

too. The moment I saw her, I felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity.”

As the sound of water echoed from within, Josie had no idea how much Arnold had heard.

“Speaking of which, she started as your assistant. And now, she’s become the daughter of the Olsen

family. In the future, she might even marry Dexter. Honestly, don’t you feel a bit unsettled?”

As Josie asked, she quietly took out a transparent pouch from her bag and dropped a pill into the wine

glass.

Arnold didn’t respond. After a while, the sound of water stopped. He came out, drying his hair. While

doing so, he exuded an unbridled charm.

“Ms. Warren, you coming home with me in the middle of the night will give others the wrong idea.”

Josie was puzzled. “Who’s going to have the wrong idea?”

Arnold gave her a deep look, ultimately choosing to walk past her. “If I had known she was the

daughter of the Olsen family, I would never have let her be an assistant.”

“If you knew, would you have made her yours?”

Josie held up a glass of wine and took a sip, then handed the other glass to him.

Arnold took it from her only after she had drunk. “How will you drive home after drinking?”

“I’ll head back tomorrow,” she said with an ambiguous smile.

“This tactic is useless against me.”

Josie drained her glass in one gulp. “Then have someone send me home.”

Arnold frowned, seemingly at a loss with her. He took a small sip and clicked his tongue. “Louis XIII,

you sure have good taste.”

Josie’s smile bloomed like a flower.

Two minutes later, Arnold collapsed on the bed, completely drained of energy.
