Hope stilled in her place. For years she had an empty space in her heart that made her believe she
was not going to see Varys again. It had been so long since she had assumed he was dead, because
the thought of him going through any sort of pain or torture was too cruel to imagine.
As she felt his racing heartbeat against her back, she realized that he was not as unaffected by her
presence as he had pretended to be.
Varys did not know what to say to her or how to express his feelings. He wanted to hug her without any
hesitation or fear of rejection, but the truth was she had married a man who had murdered hundreds
without a reason, who had murdered his family in front of his eyes. How could he believe that over the
years she had not become an accomplice in his crimes? After all, she and Ethan had had a love
marriage.
Hope put her palm on his arm that encircled her. She was not trying to be a person who holds grudges.
The only thought that came to her mind upon seeing him was that perhaps she did not matter to him as
much as he mattered to her. She knew she had fallen in love with him. The heartbreak was too painful
for her to prove something otherwise. But he had never bothered to contact her, to reach out to her.
Now as she saw him living such a lavish life without anyone controlling him, she realized she was the
delusional one all this time. There was a difference in the way Varys felt about her in those days, and
perhaps that small crush of his had passed a long time ago.
"There is nothing to say," Hope said gently, turning her face to him, "if I said that it is good to see you
after all these years, it would be just half truth,"
Varys' gaze immediately clouded with darkness.
"why are you in front of me right now?" her voice increased with every passing word as she snapped, "I
never asked you to come. I never expected you to come!"
She threw his arms off herself and took a step back to clear her head from the cloud of confusion, "I
don't recognize you. What am I to you? Who am I to question you for anything at all?! Years have gone
since I last saw you, or talked to you."
Varys clenched his jaw and took a step forward to cover the distance she had made, "I was not in the
situa..." he started but Hope immediately cut him off,
"Exactly! Your situation is so pitiful I am literally seeing you living in rags right now."
"Do not cut me off when I am talking!" he growled.
Hope lifted her hand up to push the hair falling on her face aside while she pursed her lips in fury and
snapped sarcastically, "oh, my apologies, your highness." and started walking away from him with
stomping feet.
Varys was wary of showing her his inner battle. He wanted to believe Hope and puts all of his fears and
doubt aside to just have her in his arms again. But her relationship with Ethan was enough to have him
take a step back from her.
"You don't have any right over me, you know." he announced loudly as he watched her walk past the
couches in the hall towards the door to get out, "you never gave a fuck and you still don't. You were
happy in your own little golden house with Ethan until I forcefully brought you here."
He saw her stop suddenly but he continued talking without losing a breath. All of his pent up anger,
frustration, and jealousy poured out in a moment of lost control, "stop pretending like you were
heartbroken over my disappearance because I know the truth about what kind of girl you are for
marrying someone like that bastard."
Hope clenched her fist as fury filled her. She had never expected to hear such words from him. His
words only proved that in his eyes she had never been anything but a golddigger.
Hope turned her head to him and barked, "You are such a big, fucking, dog."
Varys breathed heavily. His anger had crossed the limits of his control. And as he stopped speaking he
realized what he had said, feeling guilty immediately, but refusing to apologize or back down.
"Why the fuck did you marry Ethan? I am sure you know what kind of work he does, how many brothels
he runs, and how many people he kills every fucking day just to fulfill his greed for money. How can you
stoop so fucking low?" he glared at Hope.
Hope flinched immediately as the memories of all the bad things she had seen and endured flashed in
front of her eyes. The hurt flashed across her face which was too hard to miss even to Varys's furious
gaze. But she did not reply to him. He did not deserve an explanation from her after everything he had
said.
Hope turned again to face the door and noticed the bodyguards outside. She knew there was no
escaping a mansion like this. Her every step was under watchful eyes and she no longer trusted Varys
enough to not shoot her.
She turned back again and stomped back to the room that she had woken up in. There was nothing
more to talk. She did not even want to look him in the eyes. Even though his words were harsh, and
she did not know what she had gotten into while marrying Ethan, there was no denying the fact that
she was not a silent witness of all his crimes.
Varys's mind got clouded with dark thoughts as he watched Hope silently walk away from him without
answering. He had been in love with her for years. Hell, he still was so pathetically in love with her. But
he had lost something that was extremely precious to him. Ethan had killed his family ruthlessly in front
of his eyes. If it had not been for Varys's father's right hand man stealing away his critically injured body
before the police could get to the scene, he would died long ago.
It was his vow to destroy Ethan completely. He was not going to give a fuck about who gets ruined
along the way.
And Hope had married his fucking enemy! She had a love marriage with Ethan, so she most probably
will not betray her fucking husband for him. But was he ready to remove her from his path forcefully?
His heart ached at the mere thought.
