Rachel turned around and sized up the tall and slender woman in front of her again.
“Miss Grey, my name is Chris Jones, and I will be your personal bodyguard starting today,” Chris said
expressionlessly.
“I don’t need a bodyguard,” Rachel replied.
Her words were not meant for Chris, but rather to convey her thoughts to David.
David handed the fruit salad to Rachel. “Chris is a person of few words. She will not disturb you. She
will only appear by your side when necessary. You won’t feel uncomfortable with her presence at other
times.”
“You know that’s not what I meant,” Rachel said as she reached out and took the salad bowl.
She didn’t mind Chris’ presence affecting her. It was just that she was used to being on her own for all
these years, and having someone around meant she would have to divert some of her attention.
She picked up a piece of strawberry and put it in her mouth, only to be caught off guard by its
unexpected. sourness, causing her eyebrows to furrow.
Seeing this, David hurriedly pulled out a tissue, gesturing for her to spit the strawberry out.
Standing nearby, Chris witnessed the scene. She looked as if she had been struck by lightning and
stared at David in disbelief.
She wondered, “What on earth happened to Mr. Jones during his time away from Aureliana?
“He is the head of the Jones family, the master of the secret chamber, and a person even the Elders
would fear!
“Why would he be doing such menial tasks for a woman?”
“Why don’t you let her be your driver?” David suggested again.
Rachel looked at David, hesitated, and finally reluctantly agreed. “Fine.”
David had already gone this far. She would seem like an ingrate if she continued to refuse at this point.
However, the role of a driver did not sit well with Chris.
After all, she was the top candidate selected through multiple layers of screening and annual
evaluations. Yet now, she was reduced to being a driver for Miss Grey, who never had to work in her
life?
Wouldn’t the other trainees she had worked with laugh their heads off if they found out?
Moreover, the five members of their team-Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth-had always had clear
roles, and all their tasks were done with the purpose of serving David.
Yet now, she had been summoned overnight just to be a driver for this woman!
“Don’t force yourself to stoop to that level if you don’t want to do it,” Rachel said.
She didn’t miss the fleeting emotions in Chris’ eyes.
Chris was momentarily stunned. She was just about to say she could find someone else to take the job
– when she noticed David’s knife-like gaze aimed directly at her.
Her throat tightened, and she swallowed her words, saying respectfully, “It’s my honor to serve you,
Miss Grey.”
Rachel didn’t respond, only giving Chris a faintly amused look.
Before long, David waved his hand, and Chris got the hint and walked away.
After she stepped out of the foyer, Chris leaned against the wall, crossed her arms, and looked
gloomily at Billy, who was approaching from a distance.
“You just got back. What’s with the bitter and resentful look on your face?” Billy asked.
Chris frowned. “The boss abandoned me in the south for years, but now I’m summoned overnight just
to be a driver for that wontan in there! Has he been bewitched by that enchantress?”
“I think you’ve been abroad for too long and have forgotten even the most basic rules!” Billy scolded
sternly.
Hearing his reprimand, Chris pursed her lips, feeling somewhat indignant. “I just don’t understand what
charm Miss Grey has that would make our boss personally attend to her.
“If the boss was only the president of Stellar Corporation, I wouldn’t say anything even if he had a
woman in each arm. But you and I both know how cruel reality and the situation can be! Right now,
many people in the state are eyeing the boss’s position, and people from the main and collateral
branches of the family can’t wait to find something on him to pull him down!
“Tell me. Do you think Miss Grey, a pampered young lady who has never dirtied her hands, ever
experienced a life-and-death situation? I’m afraid she would faint at the sight of blood, let alone kill
someone. How can such a person stay by the boss’s side?”
In short, Chris’s impression of Rachel was just that she was a pretty but useless ornament.
An intriguing smile flashed in Billy’s eyes when he heard what Chris said. “Although you and Yann don’t
get along, your thoughts always seem to coincide.”
Chris had an undisguisable look of disgust when she heard this. Her words were filled with intense
arrogance. “He’s thoughts aren’t worthy of coinciding with mine!”
“In my experience, Miss Grey is not just a pretty but useless one,” Billy analyzed calmly. “You must
have heard about the attack we encountered on our way back today. Miss Grey was not only able to
calmly analyze the situation, but she also knew far more about car modifications than both Yann and
me.”
He sighed softly, patted her shoulder, and said earnestly, “If she were just a weak and useless person,
how could she have caught our boss’s eye?”
Chris could not help but frown when she heard how Billy was defending Rachel. She asked, “What
benefit did you receive from her? Why are you speaking up for her?”
Billy smiled and said, “Have a guess?”
Chris could not help but roll her eyes as she watched Billy brush past her in retreat.
A dark glint passed through David’s eyes when he saw Billy.
As he got up, he said to Rachel, who was sitting on the sofa, “I’m going out for a bit. Feel free to look
around.”
“Alright,” Rachel answered with a nod.
After he left, Rachel’s fingers rapidly tapped on the keyboard, entering a URL..
However, just before logging in, she couldn’t help but hesitate.
Her brow furrowed, her serious and conflicted expression was like making a choice between life and
death.
Finally, her remaining rationality was defeated by her inner bias.
She logged into her account and opened a chat window in her contact list.
[Can you help me?]
The person on the other end was so sleepy that he could barely keep his eyes open. He could not help
but feel dazed when he saw the sudden pop-up chat window.
At this time, the chat window shook and another message popped up. [Reply when you see this.]”
“D*mn!” The man sat up abruptly, knocking over the cup of water on the table and sweeping all kinds of
comic books on the table to the floor.
The man could not believe it. He stared at the shaking chat window in front of the computer and rubbed
his eyes hard.
He might have rubbed them a little too hard. His eyes became slightly red, and tears gradually welled
up in his eyes.
Suppressing his excitement, he quickly typed with trembling fingers. [After four years, you finally
decided to contact me!]
[Help me look up three Mercedes-Benz G636X6 cars.]
[Four years without contact, and you’re ordering me around as soon as you come back?]
Rachel saw the message from the other side. Her eyebrows raised slightly, and the corners of her
mouth. curled into an almost imperceptible smile. [You have a problem?]
[You should be called Heartless!]
Rachel smiled, closed her phone, got up, and aimlessly wandered around the house.
