Cordy was silent as she listened to Richard.

It was true—whenever she took Patrick out on a stroll, they almost always ran into John.

She was actually surprised, since John was never that outgoing, leaving her wondering if he was

suffering from cabin fever.

That was the case for Patrick, who was bored out of his mind staying in bed all the time.

Meanwhile, Richard continued seriously, “Daddy didn’t have to keep the bandages on his face too, and

I heard the doctor telling him repeatedly to take them off or it would hamper his recovery. But Daddy

insisted on keeping on the bandages, and now that I think about it, he must be worried that you’d be

spooked since his face would look too scary.”

Cordy could not quite say how she felt just then.

It was as if there was something missing between them, and she had since resigned herself to give up

on him.

Now, she really did not want to remember him—it was fine as long as long as they were both alive,

even though they would be apart. 1

‘ Also, Daddy would-“

“Dicky.” Cordy could not stop herself from cutting him short right then.

As Richard blinked, she said, “I know how your daddy feels—but a relationship goes both ways. He

didn’t love me when I loved him, and now, he loves me when I don’t. That could only mean that we

shouldn’t be together.”

“But…”

“I’m sorry, Dicky,” Cordy apologized. “I can’t give you the wholesome family you want, but I promise you

this-no matter whom I marry and whether I would have more children, you’re irreplace to me.”

Richard still had more to say, but he bit his lip since Cordy’s work phone started ringing.

“I have to work now,” she said.

‘Okay. I’ll be going.” Richard was ultimately understanding-he would not actually push her.

Even so, Cordy did not answer her call immediately after Richard was gone.

Instead, she reclined against her chair, pensive.

She would be lying if she felt nothing after hearing what Richard said or claim that she had no feelings

for John at all.

But after going through so much, only for more obstacles to come between them, they were past the

point of no return.

Cordy took a deep breath to stop herself from thinking anymore about it.

She picked up a phone and called back, focusing her attention back on her work.

Patrick was laying in bed, tossing and turning in boredom.

Cordy would usually be at his side even when she had to work, but she was now gone after they

returned to Cranston Hall.

It suddenly felt like he was being neglected.

After some thought, he got out of bed, and wheeled himself out of his room, planning to go on a stroll

around Cranston Hall.

It was a huge place and was perfectly suited forthat.

He passed by Cordy’s room, pausing after some hesitation and peered through the door that was left

ajar to see her fully focused on her meeting.

He wanted to ask for her company but ultimately decided against bothering her.

He walked toward the elevator, while thanking his luck there was one here, or he would have to climb

down the stairs—literally. 2

As he moved toward the living room, he saw no one but several servants.

Was Sean that busy?

However, Patrick was used to not seeing the man for a while now, and he wheeled himself toward the

courtyard.
