The pianist continued to play the piano in the hall. Joseph's voice drowned out by the music the pianist
played. Hence, it didn’t raise the attention of the whole restaurant. However, people who sat nearby
Hayden’s table gave them some very peculiar looks.
Edison responded first from the surprise. He asked a waiter to take care of Stella and got her out of the
dining hall.
Hayden then recovered from the shock. She took a glance at the woman standing behind Joseph, and
her expression turned cold, “What does it have to do with you?”
Joseph glared at Edison and said coldly, “This is your definition of an ordinary friend? You would invite
an ordinary friend to spend a family day together?”
Joseph saw Edison walking out of Hayden’s place the other day, and she sounded plausible during
their fight. Even if he said that he saw Edison walking out of her place, Hayden insisted Edison was just
an ordinary friend. Joseph even doubted himself because of that.
Now that Joseph had seen Edison in a nearer distance, his instinct told him that Edison didn’t see
Hayden as just an ordinary friend.
“Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?”
Hayden was disappointed in Joseph’s aggressive question. She took a deep breath, “Joseph, I have
nothing to talk to you. Please leave.”
Joseph clenched his fists and sneered, “Good. I’m leaving.”
There was a touch of coldness in his eyes. He grasped Hayden’s wrist and pulled her out of her seat,
“You are leaving with me.”
He felt cheated. The idea of being cheated from the beginning made him crazy. He wanted an
explanation.
At the same time, a strong hand grasped Joseph’s arm. Joseph’s arm was pulled away from Hayden
and stopped him from leaving with Hayden. Joseph frowned and turned around. He saw Edison’s calm
face.
Edison said, “Mr. Beckham, I’m afraid it is inappropriate.”

me and her. Stay away.”

leave with you.”

impatiently tried to pull Hayden away from Edison.

voice was soft but determined, “Respecting and guarding Hayden’s will is important to me.”
The coldness in Joseph’s eye grew stronger. If the coldness in Joseph’s eyes could kill, Edison has
already been killed so many times.
Joseph warned Edison in a cold tone, “Mr. Godfery, this is the Nanking city. Not Manhattan.”
As long as Edison wanted to start his business in Nanking city, he had to recognise who is the boss
here, no matter how well-respected Edison was in Wall Street and the financial sector.
And the boss of Nanking city is the Beckham family.
The sound of the piano stopped. It already felt like war when Joseph and Edison glared at each other.

However, Joseph felt like Edison’s words were meant for Hayden.
He wanted to show off his succession by comparing himself with Joseph.
“The root of a family?” Joseph’s eyes were colder than ever, “I bet you don’t have the idea of what the
root of a family is.”
Joseph’s bodyguards knew what he wanted by just a glance. In just a few minutes, the customers were
evacuated from the restaurant, and only three of them left in the restaurant.
“Joseph, what do you want to do?” Hayden panicked and tried to get away from Joseph, “Let go of me!”
Joseph didn’t let go at all. He continued glaring at Edison, “The root of a family means, if you don’t walk
out of here alone tonight, you are never walking out of here.”
What Joseph meant was pretty obvious.
The Beckham family had rooted in Nanking city for so many years. It was impossible that the Beckham
family has nothing to do with the underground. Being able to juggle between both the legislation

Edison was unconcerned. He looked as calm as the beginning.

chance. Leave with me, or he will never leave this place.”
Hayden remained silent for a very long time. When Joseph finally took a good look at her, she couldn’t

childish.”
Hayden’s word felt like a pile of cold water pouring down onto Joseph’s reckless mind. The
disappointment in Hayden’s words cooled Joseph’s head down a little bit.
“Don’t you dare to touch Edison,” Hayden shook away Joseph’s hand. There were bruises on her pale
skin. The bruises were in a shape of a palm. Hayden sounded cold and determined, “Leave me here as
well if you dare.”
