Chapter 273 It’s My Expertise

Mark stared at her with mellowness and wisdom in his eyes.

“Joseph’s stubborn and he really thinks that you are the one. It’s only a matter of time that he’ll marry

you. The barrier between him and his grandpa has long existed. If you could help them erase the hard

feeling, I think Mr. Harrison would be happy to accept you.

“You overestimate me, Mark. Why are you so sure that I can help you?”

“Because I believe the accident three years ago wasn’t done by Mr. Joseph. He’s cold, not inhuman.

The Beckhams just lack communication. We just need you to persuade Joseph to sit down and hash it

out with his grandfather.”

At present, Haden seemed to be the only person that Joseph would listen to.

Mark’s intention was good. But he didn’t know Hayden had already looked into the accident and her

view on it was in sync with Harrison. She didn’t trust Joseph as much as Mark thought she would.

People change, and Joseph had changed a lot since she first met him. He might not do such things

now. but the Joseph in the past could.

“Mark, why are you so certain that Joseph had nothing to do with it?”

“Joseph grew up under my watch, he spent a lot more time with me than anyone else. Everyone knows

he evicted his mom when he’s thirteen. But the truth was complicated than it seemed to be.”

Hayden was intrigued, and puzzled.

“His mother had been pregnant for five months when he demanded her to leave. His parents were

always apart. Her mother came back for his father’s funeral after the car crash. That being said, how

could the baby in her be a Beckham?”

Noticing that Hayden was still kind of confused, Mark decided to put it plain, “Though Joseph’s

mother’s Mr. Harrison’s favorite adopted daughter, he wouldn’t let such scandal ruin his son and his

family’s reputation. For the pride of the Harrison, he wouldn’t let the kid survive.”

“So,” Hayden was shocked, “Joseph did that to protect the kid?”

“Joseph isn’t as cold as people portray him,” Mark sighed, “he’s just not good at expressing his

feelings. Miss Hayden, please, help Joseph.”

Hayden was conflicted.

The truth that Mark told him did change her view of Joseph. But she dug out the truth of the accident

three years ago with Benjamin. If that’s not the truth, then what is?

She didn't give Mark an affirmative answer but told him that she would consider it.

It was pitch-dark when Hayden came. Benjamin, now a full-time “nanny”, was lying on the couch with

Noah and Stella held in his arms. They’re all asleep, snoring.

She put the takeout on a table, and gave Benjamin a gentle push to wake him up.

“Hi, Hayden.” Benjamin greeted as he yawned.

“Go sleep in your room. Thank you for looking after the kids.”

“No problem.” Benjamin rubbed his eyes, and then snuffed, “What’d you bring home?”

“Some deserts. Want to have some? Have you had dinner yet?”

“You bet.” Benjamin nodded, “babysitting is such a tough job. The kids are so naughty. I almost had to

get on my knees to beg them to eat. And they wanted to watch cartoon, but you told me not to let them

watch too much TV. So then I almost ran out of words to persuade them.”

“Alright, help me take the kids to the room. I’ll cook some noodle for you.”

“Sure.”

Benjamin devoured the noodle in two minutes, sauce all around his mouth.

“Where is Joseph? Why didn’t he come back with you? He would get into fight with me for the noodle.”

“He would fight with you for food?” Hayden couldn’t imagine that, “No way!”

“He would, I’m telling you.” He put down the bowl, wiped his mouth, and then picked up a piece of

bread to enjoy, “He’s just like a kid, overconfident, and has troubling expressing himself. He would

ridicule you even if he actually cares a lot about you. Getting along with him is not that difficult though.”

“That’s how you think of him?”

Hayden frowned.

She had taken Joseph as a tough guy to get along with. After all, Kevin was his only friend in all these

years, others would be scared away before they could even get close to him.

“Yeah,” Benjamin nodded, “What? You look occupied.”

Hayden hesitated for a second, said seriously, “Benjamin, I’ve been thinking. Did we miss something

when we are looking into the accident three years ago?”

Benjamin put down the bread and seemed to be a little pissed off, “Like?”

“Why was Theresa so certain that Joseph drugged her? We are not supposed to just listen her own

words solely.”

“She got cancer, I don’t think she would lie.”

Benjamin was confident about her expertise and felt offended by Hayden’s question.

Hayden still had some reservations.

“Is that so?”

She had no doubt about it before her conversation with Mark, but now she did. Her skepticism about

the so-called truth they discovered began to grow even she didn’t have any proof.

“I can take another trip to Guangzhou if you want corroboration.”

Benjamin said after wiping his mouth clean, “I can record a video of Theresa and Sabrina’s narration of

the whole story. And on my expertise, I promise you that they’re not lying.”

“Your expertise?” Hayden paused, and then looked at him in confusion.

“Hayden, actually I’m a junior in Police University, my full name is Benjamin Williams. I wanted to tell

you sooner, but couldn’t find a chance to. Now that you doubt me, I can only convince you with my

expertise.”

The atmosphere in the room became intense.
