The Resurrection
When it came to the accident, Martha’s behavior became increasingly bizarre.
She screamed, clutching her head with both hands and crouched in fetal
position.
Seeing her emotional instability, Charlotte took the opportunity to interrogate
her, “What really happened in that car accident years ago? Why was your body
found when you didn’t die?”
Charlotte carefully scrutinized Martha. Despite her seemingly unstable mental
state, her attire and grooming suggested that she had been leading a
comfortable life over the years. Every detail, from her hair to her nails, was
meticulously maintained.
Who had taken her away from the scene of the accident all those years ago?
And why had they brought her here?
One mystery after another swirled around Charlotte, leaving her increasingly
perplexed.
Just then, a middle-aged man entered the room.
Although the man’s appearance was unremarkable, the aura he exuded
demanded attention.
He walked gently over to Martha and embraced her tenderly. “Let go of the
things that upset you; I’m here for you.”
Strangely, Martha, who had been emotionally volatile just moments ago,
gradually calmed down in the soothing tone of the man’s voice.
She nestled in his arms like a fragile bird, keeping her eyes tightly shut as if
reluctant to open them again.
The man had no choice but to hold her, and he looked at Charlotte with a hint of
apology. “I’m sorry, her emotions have been quite unstable since the accident,
especially after she learned about your impending marriage to Joe. That’s why
she did all this.”
Charlotte frowned as she regarded the man. She couldn’t shake her instinctive
unease despite his gentle tone and apologetic words.
“If that’s the case, can you let me go?” Charlotte locked eyes with the man.
Although his words were apologetic, the man’s expression remained remarkably
calm, without a hint of turmoil in his eyes.
He looked at Charlotte coldly, his tone surprisingly gentle. “I’m sorry. It was her
decision to bring you here, and I can’t let you go.”
Charlotte smirked. “Do you really think that a person in her current state of mind
could have come up with such an elaborate plan to kidnap me?”
Charlotte didn’t believe that a mentally unstable person could have used various
methods to take her away from Joe and Sharon, especially considering their
current condition. Although Martha’s emotions were intense, it was evident that
the man before her was the one in control.
The man smiled gently, but his expression held an icy demeanor. “I’ll fulfill any
wish she has.”
He stood up, still holding Martha, and his tone remained indifferent. “So, I’m
sorry, but I can’t let you go.”
With that, he carried Martha out of the room, and the door that had just been
opened was completely sealed shut once again.
Charlotte sat on the sofa, lost in thought, as she watched the guards once again
seal the windows with metal bars. In the vast mansion, there was only her left.
Martha’s resurrection had left her profoundly shaken.
She had originally thought that the kidnapping was directed at her, but now it
seemed more like a conspiracy against Joe.
At this point, she knew nothing about their motives, and even the events from
years ago were becoming even more shrouded in mystery.
Charlotte pondered deeply. She needed to find a way to leave this place as
soon as possible. She couldn’t afford to become a pawn in their plans to deal
with Joe.
