Daniel just started attending the Crown Preschool in Imperial City.
Crown Preschool was the cream of the crop in Imperial City, open only to kids from loaded or influential
families. If you were neither, you gotta ace their assessment to get in.
The preschool offered multilingual education and a variety of hobby classes. Even though the kids were
just five or six, the school’s management ran a tight ship.
Brittany had been there a few times before and had introduced Mia to the teachers, making it clear she
would be picking up Daniel in the future. The teachers jotted down Mia’s info and led Daniel into the
classroom.
“Mia, Daniel finishes at five every day. Just pop by then,” said Brittany.
Mia, aware of the high society norms, responded with a smile, “Sure thing.”
Brittany had to jet off to a film shoot so she drove off. Mia caught a cab to the supermarket for
groceries.
Upon reaching the set, Brittany spotted a bunch of paparazzi camping out in a corner.
She was not a public figure, but she’s been in the tabloid a few times lately. Slipping on a mask, she
sidestepped the reporters and snuck onto the set.
Her assistant, seeing her after over a week, rushed up, “Ms. Dustin, you finally showed up.”
“What’s the holdup?” Brittany glanced at her watch. It was nearly nine, and why they hadn’t started
shooting yet?
“We got word this morning that some big shot is coming. The whole crew’s in a frenzy prepping, even
Ms. Stella is waiting for him.”
Big shot?
Brittany paused, “Who?”
“The Palmer family, that jewelry tycoon,” her assistant replied mysteriously, “Rumor has it that they’re
close with Ms. Stella. Some even say that the heir of the Palmer family has known Ms. Stella since they
were kids and they might tie the knot.”
Stella and the Palmers?
Brittany remembered seeing Stella with Thomas in the green room. Was there something between her
and the Palmers too?
While Brittany was still mulling this over, a commotion broke out outside.
Suddenly, the whole set was buzzing.
Following the crowd’s gaze, Brittany saw a sleek black extended Lincoln pull up at the entrance.
The car doors swung open and six bodyguards stepped out.
As the rear door opened, the first thing she saw was a pair of shiny leather shoes, followed by a man
slowly getting out that’s the head honcho of the Palmer family.
Brittany had heard more or less about the Palmers in her years in the jewelry industry.
The Palmers had been in the jewelry business for generations and were hailed as a powerhouse in the
industry.
The head of the family, Joseph Palmer, was known for his ruthless tactics and had a net worth north of
five billion:
Now in his forties, he was aging like fine wine.
He stood tall in his black suit, and while his features weren’t exactly a knockout, he was still a looker,
His massive wealth lent him an air of authority.
The director rushed up to greet him, “Mr. Joseph.”
With a smile/Joseph shook the director’s hand.
Dressed in a long skirt, Stella went up to Joseph and embraced him, “Welcome.”
Brittany instinctively glanced at Thomas. He looked pissed and his eyes filled with coldness and
restraint.
As Stella introduced the main cast and crew, Joseph greeted each one in turn. Finally, his gaze rested
on Brittany. He flashed his wrist
and showed off a watch worth millions.
“Ms. Dustin, I hear you’re quite the sensation.”
Brittany was taken aback, “Hello, Mr. Joseph.”
Brittany had made strides over the years, but she still paled in comparison to the Palmers.
Joseph let go of her hand, “Ms. Dustin, I’m treating the crew to dinner tonight. We can chat more then.”
Brittany accepted that with pleasure, “Sounds good.”
As Joseph and Stella left, Brittany watched their retreating figures and her heart was filled with
anticipation for her future prospects.
Stella led Joseph into the green room. Thomas tried to follow them in but was stopped by Stella, “Wait
outside.”
Thomas pursed his lips, “Alright.”
As the green room door shut, Joseph poured himself a cup of coffee, “You still haven’t cut ties with her
yet?”
