Chapter 844Chapter 844
“Grandma, if it’ll make you better, I’m not just talking about donating a kidney – I’d give my heart if I had
to.” Joie pledged with earnest devotion, “You know you’ve always been like my own grandma to me.
Now that you’re sick, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to see you through this.”
Touched by the sentiment, Grace smiled weakly, “Bless your heart, child.”
Joie spent the entire afternoon by Grace’s side until Brittany arrived at the hospital.
Brittany was surprised to find Joie there; after all, she was supposed to be at the private clinic.
“Sis-in-law,” Joie said, rising to her feet, her voice a careful whisper, a stark contrast to her past
defiance.
Grace raised an eyebrow. Joie had never been this docile before. Recent hardships seemed to have
taught her a thing or two.
With a slight nod, Brittany handed over a thermos to Emily. “Grandma, I made you some soup. Be sure
to drink plenty.”
Grace’s illness had taken a toll on her, and her health was deteriorating rapidly. It was important for her
to rest and recover. Brittany served Grace a bowl of the soup, but after a few sips, Grace couldn’t
manage any more.
Once Grace had settled in for the night, Brittany left with the thermos in hand.
“Sis-in-law,” Joie called out, stopping Brittany.
Brittany frowned at the address. “Joie, please don’t call me that.”Joie offered a timid smile, “I realize I’ve been wrong before, and I promise not to cause you any trouble
anymore. Please forgive me.”
Brittany was perplexed. Could prison change someone so completely? In less than a month, Joie
seemed to have lost her edges.
“Just get some rest,” Brittany advised before leaving.
As she walked away, a dangerous glint passed through Joie’s eyes, unnoticed by Brittany.
Back at her place, Brittany had dinner and retired to her room.
Isaac came home late, careful not to wake Brittany. After a shower in the guest room, he slipped into
the bed, cuddling up to Brittany and kissing the nape of her neck. Brittany snuggled back in her sleep, a
subconscious response.
Isaac chuckled softly.
In the days that followed, Joie spent her days at the hospital with Grace and her nights back at the
private clinic. Her encounters with Isaac were now marked by a respectful distance, the previous
infatuation gone.
As the month neared its end, Grace’s condition had somewhat stabilized. Isaac had arranged for top
international surgeons to operate on her.
Grace was old and had come to terms with many things, so she wasn’t nervous. In contrast, Isaac was
visibly tense, engaging in repeated discussions with the lead surgeon about the surgical plan. He
meticulously double-checked all the indicators before finally setting the date for the operation.A week before the scheduled surgery, Grace insisted on being discharged. After thoroughly ensuring
that Grace’s health was sound, Isaac arranged for her discharge.
novelbinBack at the Salter Manor, Grace’s mood considerably brightened. She found joy in tending to the
garden, watering plants, and caring for the vegetable patch.
Meanwhile, Brittany and Isaac’s relationship had warmed up considerably, and they were inseparable.
Even Grace found their affection a bit too much to handle.
One moment, Grace was in the garden watering plants, and the next, Isaac was whisking Brittany
upstairs.
No sooner had they entered the bedroom than they were entangled with each other. Isaac, who had
been holding back for some time, was now unrestrained, his actions bordering on wild.
Brittany, indulgent by nature, turned a blind eye to his fervor. She clung to him, her body drenched and
pressed against his chest.
Seeing her exhaustion, Isaac lifted her onto the bed, leaning over her with languid kisses. “After the
surgery, I’ll make sure Joie leaves,” he murmured between breaths.
Brittany, half-asleep, nodded and drifted off. Isaac kissed her cheek and fell asleep with her in his arms.
Outside the door, Joie overheard this promise, her fists clenching involuntarily.
