A Precious Gift
When they exited the hotel lobby, Freya saw a car parked not far away.
She paused for a moment and then said to Braxton, who was standing beside her, “Brax, excuse me
for a
moment.”
Since Braxton also saw the car and the person getting out of it, he asked, “Why is Radley here?”
He still disliked Radley, but since the other had saved Freya’s life multiple times, he was less hostile to
the other whenever they met.
Seeing Radley approaching, Freya whispered, “I’ll talk to him for a few minutes. You go ahead and get
in the car.
Reluctantly, Braxton got into the car.
At that point, Radley had already walked up to Freya. When he saw she was in a dress, he pursed his
lips and took off his suit jacket to put it on her.
Freya felt a bit embarrassed. Thank you, but why are you here?”
“I was waiting for you. There’s something I want to talk to you about,” Radley said while lowering his
gaze. In the darkness of the night, his fair skin seemed even paler, and his eyes were as deep as ink.
“What is it?” she asked, a bit nervous.
Radley’s eyes were filled with a hint of melancholy. “Before you were discharged, I have thought about
this for quite some time. Freya, will you give me a chance to make it up to you?”
Freya immediately took a step back. “What do you mean?”
Her cautious expression pained him.
With pursed his lips and clenched fists, Radley thought. Is it not the right time yet?
“I realized that I was foolish before, believing in Danna and causing so much harm to you,” Radley said
with a faint smile, suppressing his overflowing affection, which caused a slight pain in his heart. “So,
please accept this gift as a token of my apology.”
Freya was taken aback for a moment, then patted her chest.
“You scared me. I thought you were going to confess your love to me.
Radley tightened his grip and handed her the gift.
Smiling, she asked, “What is it?”
It was a large gift box. Radley explained, “This is not the right place to open it. You can open it when
you get home.”
Freya nodded and said, “Thank you. I’ll go back now.”
Seeing that he was still standing there without moving, she added, “I invited some friends to gather
around today, but they might not like you because of what happened in the past. So I thought I would
invite you along with Brandon and Ethan. You know them.”
Radley smiled faintly. “Okay, I understand.”
Freya blushed, but luckily, it was dark. Then, she quickly turned around and got into Braxton’s car.
When Braxton saw her coming back with a gift box, he glanced at Radley before reluctantly nodding at
him.
Since Radley had saved Freya several times, this was the most he could do.
As Braxton drove away from the hotel, he glanced at the gift box through the rearview mirror. “Is that
from Radley?”
“Yes, it’s a gift to celebrate me getting discharged, Freya replied, her voice sounding a bit hollow.
She looked out the window with confusion filling her clear eyes.
If Radley had been waiting outside the hotel entrance, how long had he been waiting there? Was all of
that just to give her a gift?
Freya touched the gift box, feeling a warm sensation flowing through her fingertips, into her body, and
finally into her heart.
The throbbing sensation made her clench her fist.
She told herself inwardly. Stay calm, stay calm. It’s foolish to do something you know you shouldn’t,
especially when everyone tells you you’ve already made a mistake! A smart person does not dwell on
past actions!
Back at the Kaufmann Residence, Freya carried the gift box upstairs.
After placing the box on the coffee table, she looked at it for a few seconds before turning to the
bathroom to freshen up.
Once she exited the bathroom, Freya played with her phone and tried to ignore the gift box, but in the
end, she still sat in front of it.
She untied the bow on the box and felt its size, which was larger than a shoebox.
When the wrapping paper was removed, the exquisitely carved mahogany box immediately caught her
attention.
She opened the box.
To her surprise, instead of jewelry or beautiful clothes, there was a stack of papers inside.
Freya took them out of the box and frowned after discovering what they were.
The stack of papers was actually a stack of contracts.
They were all signed agreements for properties Radley had transferred under her name, including
properties in Caltun, Vroria, and even a villa in Hartterre.
There was also a key to a safe deposit box.
The key was placed at the bottom. It seemed to be the most valuable item, but Freya began to panic.
What does Radley mean by this?!
She thought about what he had said that night. He said he wanted to make it up to her.
So, were these the properties he didn’t ‘divide” with her when they got divorced?
Freya frowned. This gift was too precious, and she couldn’t accept it.
But it was also difficult to refuse.
Radley had said it was a gift to celebrate her recovery, and he had waited outside the hotel for so long
just to give it to her.
While resting her cheek on her hand. Freya looked at the box anxiously.
Besides the safe deposit box key, the properties and cars alone were worth a fortune.
After hesitating for a while, Freya took out her phone and sent a message to Radley.
Freya: This gift is too precious. How about I just choose one of them?”
Radley: ‘Once a gift is given, it’s no longer my concern. You can handle it any way you want.”
Ereya gritted her teeth and finally put everything back into the box.
The contracts in the box had all been notarized, so she wasn’t afraid of losing them. But the key looked
extraordinary. Even its pendant was embedded with gemstones.
Freya put the box of contracts under the cabinet in the cloakroom and played with the key in her hand.
She was curious about what was inside the safe deposit box
As Freya lay in bed, she was suddenly shocked. She realized that Radley’s affairs had unconsciously
led her thoughts away without her realizing it.
She placed the key on the bedside table and immediately turned off the lights to rest.
She didn’t want to think about it anymore. The more she thought, the more confused she became.
The next day.
Freya arrived early at the West Geft Joint Department.
The first thing she did was to visit Brandon’s office. Since he was currently in a state of having a job but
had no work, he would play with tenon-mortise pieces while enjoying a cup of tea.
When Freya arrived, he was assembling a small box.
“You’re here, Miss Kaufmann, Brandon said, glancing at Freya.
Freya felt extremely nervous being called “Miss Kaufmann. She forced a smile and said, “Mr. Lane, are
you angry with me?”
Brandon had a stern face and ignored her.
Then, Freya sat beside him and watched as he assembled the small box. When he finished, he placed
it in
front of her
“Try to disassemble it.”
Freya looked at the perfectly fitted small cube and tried to push it open, but it wouldn’t budge.
“Mr. Lane, you’re making it difficult for me.”
“What’s wrong with making it difficult for you?” Brandon’s voice was filled with anger. “You didn’t even
call to let us know you were discharged. My wife cried several times because she was worried about
you!”
Instantly feeling nervous, she asked, “Is Mrs. Lane doing well?”
“She’s fine. She’s been drinking the medicine you prescribed for her. She’s just worried about you,”
Brandon said with a snort and pointed to the small cube in Freya’s hand. “Press here.”
