Settling Down
As it was Freya who had purchased Brandon’s new home, she remembered the address. After a forty-
minute drive, she stopped at an old mansion located in the center of Caltun. This area mostly consisted
of small attractions in the city, and there weren’t many people around. as it wasn’t tourist season.
Once she got out of the car, Freya walked along an alley. The courtyard gate was open, and as soon
as she entered, her vision widened.
“It’s so bright and spacious. A courtyard like this really puts me at ease,” she praised.
In the courtyard, two movers were walking out, and Brandon smiled when he saw her.
“You came pretty quickly.”
Freya smiled. “Master, it seems like you can not only set up a grapevine trellis but also add a few more
barrels to grow water lilies.”
“Alright, stop standing around. Let’s head inside to have a talk,” Brandon waved his hand and turned to
walk inside. With his back facing her and his arms crossed behind him, he completely blended into the
mansion.
Inside the house, Trisha was sitting on a wooden chair in the living room while sewing. Upon seeing
Freya, she immediately waved and smiled. “Frey, come sit here.”
As Freya approached, she realized that Trisha was sewing a pair of tiger-head shoes. These shoes
traditionally had contrasting and vibrant colors, and Trisha was currently sewing the tiger’s whiskers
with silk thread.
Freya couldn’t help but gasp. “It’s gorgeous.”
Trisha smiled. “I made it for your baby in your belly.”
“I knew you loved me the most,” Freya replied in a coquettish tone.
Trisha was delighted by her reply, and her eyes and eyebrows lit up with a smile. Although Brandon
had a look of disdain, he seemed at ease as well.
“Moving here is much more comfortable than I thought when I saw the photos of the house before.”
Trisha sighed. “Frey, I’ve only been here for a few hours, but I already feel at home.
Freya’s eyes lit up. “In that case, why don’t we settle down here in the future? Caltun is a pretty good
place. It isn’t too hot in the summer, and it doesn’t get too cold in the winter. either. If you’re tired of
staying in the city, we can even go halfway up the mountain for a vacation and soak in the hot springs.
What do you think?”
14
Trisha pursed her lips into a smile. “Brandon told me that you definitely thought so when you showed
him the house.”
“And you agreed?”
Trisha nodded. “Let’s stay here. After all, Brandon and I don’t have any children. I used to think about
going back to Lagresh mainly because I was worried about the trees I planted, but now that he said he
would move them here, I naturally want to stay.”
Freya was overjoyed. She was heavily pregnant and frequented the West Geft Joint Department every
day, but she was only worried that the project in West Geft would be almost finished by the time she
gave birth.
If Brandon and Trisha went to Lagresh, she wouldn’t be able to find anyone to teach her no matter how
hard she looked, and she would be forced to study on her own. However, now that he decided to stay,
she would have plenty of time to learn from him.
of tea,
Brandon and Freya chatted with Trisha for a while, and after they finished a pot Brandon headed into
the room and changed into a worn-out outfit before emerging once
more.
He rolled up his sleeves and declared, “Come, my disciple, I will teach you something important today!”
Trisha frowned. “Don’t tire her out!”
“It’s fine, I just want her to watch!”
Freya followed him eagerly. In a corner of the courtyard, there was a pile of logs. Brandon. brought a
cutting and grinding machine from the corner and carried a piece of wood directly into the courtyard.
Freya moved forward to help, only for him to stop her.
“It’s all right. I’ve carried heavier things when I was younger!”
“Master, be careful not to strain your back!”
Freya stood and watched for a while, then went back to the house and brought out two small stools,
one tall and one short. She sat by the side and watched Brandon cut the wood, carve the tenon-mortise
structure, and finally polish it smooth.
“Master, what are you making with this big piece? Is it for the grapevine trellis?” Freya curiously asked.
This tenon-mortise structure was very simple, and the logs were large. However, finding her questions
annoying, Brandon simply ignored her. Meanwhile, Freya propped her chin and watched as he quickly
assembled a swing in the courtyard.
24
“This swing won’t break unless the wood is damaged by water!” Brandon proudly boasted.
Hearing that, Freya sat on the swing to test it out.
Just then, Trisha emerged from the house as well. “Brandon, Frey, what do you want to eat
for lunch?”
Brandon waved his hand. “Just a bowl of noodles will do.”
After finishing the swing, he started working on the grapevine trellis. This time, he paid more attention
to his craft, selecting thinner pieces of wood and leaving natural indentations. Once he had finished
carving two pieces, Trisha’s noodles were also ready. The master and disciple went inside to eat
noodles, and Freya’s noodles were topped with a thick.
omelet.
When they finished lunch, Sylvia called and asked why Freya had gone out again. In the end, it was
Trisha who answered the call, and the two chatted for a while. Satisfied, Sylvia told Freya that she
could stay until evening. Freya, who had earned the rare chance to take an entire day off, filled the
Lane family’s new home with laughter and joy.
At six o’clock in the evening, a workday at the Kaufmann Group was over, and Matthew walked out of
the building. With his hands in his pockets, he stood in front of the door and looked up at the sky.
company’s
His assistant followed closely behind him, reporting, “Mr. Hood, the Monaghans called again. They said
if you don’t return soon, they will come to the company to look for you.”
Matthew sneered. “Don’t worry, they won’t show up. They will only secretly send the old executives of
the company to oppose me!”
After all, the Hood Group had grown under the hands of his
parents.
With a sigh, he realized that he had been back from Hartterre for a while now, and he should go back
and visit his family.
An hour later, in the Hood family mansion, Tripp and Lorelei were sitting on the couch.
After Matthew entered, he coldly greeted, “Dad, Mom, I heard you wanted to see me.”
Anger burned in Tripp’s eyes. “So, you still remember that you have parents? You’ve been back from
Hartterre for so long, but I haven’t seen you once!”
Next to him, Lorelai glared at Matthew as she demanded sternly. “I heard that you went to the
Kaufmann Residence What did you do there?”
As his parents hadn’t instructed him to take a seat after all this time, Matthew lowered himself into a
seat opposite them on his own
“Braxton and I are best friends. Have you forgotten about that, Mom and Dad? It was you who
arranged for us to become brothers back then, saying that the Kaufmanns were powerful and could
help our company.”
Matthew sneered. “The project in Hartterre was given up by the Kaufmanns, Mom, Dad, you really
despise Freya so much, you might as well despise her family’s money as well
