Genuine Happiness
The following Monday…
Freya received a call from the funeral parlor early in the morning.
The manager, who had forced her to leave previously, was now highly respectful to her.
“It’s all thanks to you, Freya. Our funeral pärlor has now received great recognition from the city due to
your influence. The director mentioned that you can return to work anytime you want. Also, we’re open
to granting you paid leave if you prefer not to come back right now because of your pregnancy.”
Freya was awakened by the phone call. So, she only listened lazily as she propped her head against
the headboard.
Her colleagues were unaware that she was from the Kaufmanns during her previous tenure at the
funeral parlor.
They were willing to do anything to make it up for her now that they knew who she was after what she
had done.
As she only just woke up, Freya replied in a daze, “I can’t return to work immediately. I’ll probably need
around six months of rest. It would be ideal if you could approve me on leave. Paid leave is too much to
ask for.”
She wasn’t planning on dropping her career as a mortician. However, she realized that she couldn’t
sustain high-intensity work despite her decent physical health after she worked for Pearson’s body.
Freya got out of bed and freshened herself up after ending the phone call.
Sylvia and Braxton were surprised when they saw her come down the stairs.
Braxton asked in concern. “Why are you up so early? Did you have enough sleep?” “I’m only pregnant,
not ill. Don’t worry, Braxton,” Freya answered with a smile.
The trio had breakfast together, and Sylvia got herself extremely busy with preparations for Braxton’s
wedding following that.
Meanwhile, Braxton was busy dealing with the affairs of Kaufmann Group, and at the same time, a
romantic relationship.
Freya found herself in a free and relaxed state compared to them.
She received a text message from Ink after finishing breakfast.
The equipment has arrived. Do I get a free meal now?
Freya instantly shook off her drowsiness when she saw that.
She messaged Brisa before heading out from the Kaufmann Residence in her car, heading straight to
the research lab.
She saw Ian Bellingham standing before the equipment as soon as she reached the villa. Meanwhile,
Octo Adelphos was inspecting them.
Freya gently touched the equipment?
if they were precious artifacts after she approached them.
lan asked at the side, “Hey, over here. Why are you treating me like nothing?”
Brisa questioned unimpressed with her arms folded, “Is this all? How many millions do they cost
again?”
“They’re absolutely worth it!” Freya fired up the equipment and conducted tests. Both the precision and
the newly developed functions made her extremely satisfied.
Brisa couldn’t help but say, “You’re drooling, Freya!”
Freya was delighted, and she had Octo Adelphos help her in moving the equipment to a designated
spot.
Octo Adelphos became serious when they learned that the equipment cost millions.
“Don’t worry, GS. We will take good care of the equipment and live up to your expectations!”
Freya trusted them. Besides, the equipment was heavy. No ordinary person could move them easily.
Freya turned to lan following that.
“Thanks. Come on, let me treat you to a meal!”
Ereya also invited Octo Adelphos after thinking for a moment. “I mean everyone!”
She invited Jakob Dunn as well since they were all part of The Green Flamation forum. Only Landon
Johnson wasn’t in Caltun, so he couldn’t attend.
Freya brought them to a nearby hotel for lunch after that.
Although the bald duo of Octo Adelphos had their hair grow slightly recently, they still suffered
psychologically because of Brisa.
Freya brought Brisa to the West Geft Joint Department after lunch.
Brisa’s identity to the public was still her assistant.
They crossed paths with Connor West, who was heading out when they entered the Joint Department.
“Miss Kaufmann, Connor greeted with respect. He also smiled when he noticed Brisa, who was behind
Freya. “You’re back, Miss Trujillo.”
Brisa only rolled her eyes up when she heard that.
Connor left in confusion following that, leaving Freya curious about what happened between them.
“What did he do to you?”
“He towed my car away.” Brisa answered with her arms crossed. “I would’ve given him a piece of my
mind. if I wasn’t your assistant!”
Freya laughed. “He only towed away your car once. Why are you still holding a grudge against him?”
Brisa replied coldly, “I’ll hold onto it as long as I’m breathing if I don’t get my revenge.”
Freya raised her eyebrows slightly as they went into Brandon’s office.
Radley was already seated inside with a tablet in his hand, and he furrowed his brows.
He put down the tablet when he saw Freya.
On the other hand, Brandon was sketching something with his glasses on as he sat in front of his desk.
“What are you sketching. Master?” Freya asked.
She thought Brandon might be sketching some tenon-mortise structures, but she realized it was a
courtyard when she approached to have a closer look.
Brandon had drawn a distant view of the courtyard with grapevines, a rocking chair, and some other
mostly wooden items.
“Are you planning to renovate the courtyard, Master?”
“My wife likes my creation. So, I intend to craft all these by hand,” Brandon replied with a smile on his
face. He seemed to have envisioned the happy future he and his wife would share once the courtyard
was renovated.
“Look, Frey. I have this section prepared so that she can grow crops here.”
Brandon said as he exuded an aura full of positive vibe. Freya listened as she smiled, and she could
also imagine the outcome of the renovation in her mind.
“Mrs. Lane must be delighted to have a husband like you, Master,” Freya said as she felt touched.
However, Brandon immediately retorted without hesitation, “It’s because of her that I’m happy now.
She’s been with me for all these years. She must’ve endured quite a bit of hardship due to my
stubbornness.”
Freya was slightly taken aback.
Brandon was still looking at the sketch in front of him with a pen in his hand. He seemed to be
contemplating where he could make improvements.
Freya realized something at that instant. Perhaps that was what genuine happiness looked like.
A couple who always looked out for each other wholeheartedly and appreciated the other’s efforts
made up the perfect match.
She unconsciously shifted her gaze to Radley, who was beside her, and she was met by his dark eyes.
Freya felt as if her heart had skipped a beat, and she quickly averted her gaze back to the sketch in
front of her.
“Ayden has already begun the procedures regarding the traditional courtyard. It should be done by
now.”
Freya smiled as she looked at Brandon. “Let me help if you can’t finish with the courtyard, Master.”
Brandon nodded as his delight was evident.
“Alright. I can see why I have you as my apprentice. But, won’t Mrs. Lane sticks it to me if she finds out
that I made you work while you are pregnant? You better stay put for now.”
Radley watched quietly from the side as the master and apprentice chatted.
Freya helped Brandon with the sketches for the whole afternoon that day.
Ayden called not long after. He confirmed that the contract for the traditional courtyard had been
signed. It was just past four in the afternoon when Freya looked at the clock,
“Are you planning to head back to the villa after work, Master? How about I come with you to visit Mrs.
Lanc?”
Freya hadn’t had the chance to meet Mrs. Lane again since she had become Brandon’s apprentice.
