The Painful Process
After arriving in Mutrya, Freya was taken to this tall building by Matthew. Contrary to what. Matthew had
initially stated, the top floor of the building was not a facility from any institution. Instead, it was a rehab
center he had built himself, staffed with experts authoritative organizations.

As the gentle morning breeze wafted by, Freya furrowed her brows, feeling the sensations surging
through her body once again. Over the past few days, she had experienced a range of feelings-
alternating between hot flashes that made her feel like she was on fire and shivering cold spells that left
her yearning for scalding water to pour over her.
Accompanying these sensations were excruciating pains that penetrated deep into her bones. Freya
knew just how terrifying and disheveled she must look when these episodes took hold. If it weren’t for
Matthew forcibly restraining her the day before, she might have already dropped to her knees to beg
the experts for help.
Matthew had stopped her, preserving her dignity, but all he received in return were her harsh words
and the scratches on his face. Freya lowered her gaze, feeling both guilty and relieved that she hadn’t
returned to Caltun. If her mother had seen her in the throes of an episode, she would surely cry in
secret.
Freya missed her mother, her brother, Daniella, her mentor, his wife, Isabella, and all her friends so
much. But right now, going back was not an option.
Freya staggered to her feet, but before she could take more than a couple of steps, she collapsed to
the ground, curling up in agony. The overwhelming sensation had returned.
At the entrance, Matthew came in with some snacks when he immediately rushed into the garden upon
seeing the scene. “Freya?!”
Freya was trembling all over, her hands tightly clutching Matthew’s collar. “I can’t take it anymore. It’s
killing me.”
The relentless and crushing pain felt like putting her entire being under a hydraulic press. It wasn’t
coming in waves anymore; it was a direct, soul-crushing force.
‘Matthew, please help me. Freya’s consciousness began to blur as the malevolent flower inside her
bloomed. “Don’t you like me? If you bring me ley Sea. I’ll be with you forever, okay?
Matthew froze in place, tempted by Freya’s words.
“Give me ley Sea, and we’ll never be apart, alright?
His fingers tightened, and for a moment, he wavered dangerously close to becoming
another Jamie-using such means to restrain her for his own purposes.
Matthew’s gaze hardened, though, as he said firmly, “Freya, just endure a little longer. It will pass. It will
pass.”
Freya, met with Matthew’s refusal, began to cry out, “It won’t pass; I’m going to die!”
In her agony, she started hitting her head as if trying to combat the pain within her body. She
repeatedly pinched her exposed thighs and arms.
Matthew immediately called for help.
Several experts were on standby all day and immediately came upstairs from the lower-level rehab
center upon hearing the call. They restrained Freya and brought her to a room on the top floor. Using
straps, they secured her to the bed, and a doctor administered a sedative injection.
Freya’s eyes widened as she clenched her teeth, glaring at Matthew. “Give me…”
The experts wiped the sweat from their foreheads.
Matthew, seeing Freya gradually calm down on the bed, turned to the doctor and asked, “Didn’t they
say the first five days and the first month were the most painful? It’s already the sixth day today. Why is
she still in so much pain?!”
The expert furrowed their brows and explained, “Miss Kaufmann has provided us with the formula for
the Icy Sea. This is a new variation, even more potent than the commonly available ones on the
market-”
Matthew turned grim at once. “I want to know when she can be relieved from this suffering!”
The expert hurriedly replied, “Please be patient, Mr. Hood. It’s only been a week, and Miss. Kaufmann
has much stronger willpower and endurance than the average person. She should be able to detoxify
in three months fully.”
Matthew looked at Freya on the bed, his brows furrowed. “Alright.”
Sedatives no longer worked as effectively for Freya at this point. Not long after, she began to wriggle in
pain again.
It wasn’t until the sun set and the afterglow painted the sky that her entire back was covered
in sweat.
Exhausted, Freya lay on her side and gazed at the sky through the open window, feeling at dull ache in
her heart.
She vaguely remembered uttering nonsense during her episodes, and although she was
21
relieved not to be in Caltun, her guilt toward Matthew deepened.
As Matthew entered with dinner, he saw her lying on her side, having already removed the restraints
due to her regaining her senses.
Freya heard the sound and turned to look at Matthew, offering a faint smile.
“Awake?” Matthew placed the dinner on the nearby table. “You must be starving. Eat. something.”
Freya’s gaze fell on the fresh scratch marks on Matthew’s neck. She took a deep breath. Though she
didn’t want Radley and her family to see her like this, she also didn’t want to involve Matthew any
further.
Her voice was hoarse. “Matthew, maybe you should go back to Florin. I can stay myself.”

Matthew frowned in response. “What are you talking about? There’s no way I’m leaving you here
alone!”
Freya bit her lip. “I know what I said today. Matthew, this is a burden I have to bear on my own. You
don’t need to-”
“I want to,” Matthew interrupted, picking up a bowl of soup and offering it to Freya. “Go ahead and eat. I
didn’t expect the rehab process to be this demanding.”
Typically, it wasn’t very taxing, but Freya’s exceptional skills often required them to exert a significant
amount of effort to restrain her.
Freya lowered her gaze and began to sip the soup.
After finishing her meal, Freya remained silent, her mood far from cheerful.
Noticing her lack of enthusiasm, Matthew didn’t press her further and left the room with his food.
The
top floor and rooftop had become his domain since he brought Freya here. Even the experts from
authoritative institutions hadn’t stepped outside once.
Matthew knew Radley’s capabilities, and if he showed himself here. Radley would undoubtedly track
him down. Therefore, after going to great lengths to bring Freya here, he. too, refrained from leaving
the building,
All the essentials in this place were purchased by a local contact Matthew had hired, who also worked
on the 17th floor of the building, ensuring that their comings and goings didn’t
attract undue attention.

At 8 p.m., the lights in Bexley shone brightly. Freya sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the
night outside, feeling a sense of longing for her mother.
Her phone was nearby, a new one with her old SIM card that Matthew had set up for her.
She picked up the phone and logged into WhatsApp, initiating a video call with Sylvia.
When the call connected, Sylvia, seeing Freya, immediately burst into tears. “Freya, how are you
now?”
“I’m doing well. Just had dinner,” Freya replied with a bright smile, though her becoming teary as well.
“I know all about your situation. Your brother is furious because Matthew took Mutrya,” Sylvia said,
wiping her tears.
Just then, Isabella squeezed into the frame. “Freya, when are you coming back?”
