They Were Bad-mouthing You

After the pressing issues in West Geft’s Joint Department were resolved, Freya had a few days of free

time.

Braxton’s leg had gotten well significantly, and he could now walk a few steps with crutches. However,

he still needed the wheelchair for longer distances.

On the other hand, Freya started to slack off. Her morning sickness had eased up a bit, but she

became more prone to sleep.

Every morning, instead of going to work, she would stay at home to sleep in.

In the bedroom, Freya turned over, buried her face in the pillow, and rubbed her face against it.

Just then, her phone on the bedside table rang. She frowned as she reached to answer it.

“Hello?”

“Hi, I’m calling from the Dean’s Office of Evergreen University.”

Evergreen University?

Freya rubbed her eyes and asked in her usual tone, “What’s the matter?”

“Are you Melissa Marshall’s cousin? Melissa got into a fight at school with someone. Can you come?”

“She got into a fight? With whom?!” Freya’s voice raised a few tones.

The man on the other end of the phone spoke sternly. “With Miss Hannah Monaghan from the

Monaghan family.”

Instantly, Freya sat up straight. “I’ll be there right away! Can you please watch Melissa for me in the

meantime?”

After changing clothes and washing her face, Freya tied her hair into a ponytail and immediately left the

house.

Downstairs, she ran into Brisa, who came to deliver some documents, so she called out to the latter.

“Brisa, take me to Evergreen University!”

Worried about her cousin, Freya couldn’t be bothered to get her car, so she took a ride in Brisa’s

Volkswagen to the campus.

The security guard stopped their car at the gate, so Freya got out of the vehicle and walked into the

campus.

When she arrived at the Dean’s Office, she heard Melissa’s angry voice. “I told you it’s not my fault! I

was just preparing the fireworks for Foundation Day when someone bad-mouthed my cousin. They

were the ones spreading rumors first!”

A middle-aged man’s voice sounded stern. “Just because someone spoke bad things about your

cousin, you assaulted them? You’re a student!”

Freya squinted her eyes and lightly knocked on the door of the Dean’s Office.

When the door opened, she looked inside.

Freya graduated from Evergreen University. So of course, she recognized the man in front of her. He

was the office director of Evergreen University, Yosef Workman, who was known for being power-

hungry.

Sitting across from Yosef. Melissa was gritting her teeth. Her beautiful and youthful face was full of

resentment and anger. At the sight of Freya, she immediately turned into a pitiful look. “Frey-”

Freya responded with a nod and entered the office.

On a row of seats next to the wall sat seven girls with swollen faces.

Freya glanced at Melissa beside her and noticed that the latter had no bruises on her face.

Melissa had grown well, standing at over 1.7 meters. She was slightly taller than Freya and had a neat

short haircut. But now, she was leaning against Freya like a helpless little bird.

“They were using filthy words on you. I couldn’t hold back,” explained Melissa.

As a reassurance, Freya patted Melissa’s shoulder. Knowing that her cousin was not injured, she

relaxed.

Meanwhile, Yosef didn’t seem to plan on letting Melissa go easily. “Tsk, you’re still playing the victim.”

Calmly. Freya stood between her cousin and Yosef. “Hi, I’m Melissa’s cousin. If there’s anything, you

can speak to me.”

Yosef looked her up and down before commenting. “You seem familiar.”

“Yeah, I’m an alumnus of Evergreen University.” However, Freya had kept a low profile back then, so

no one knew she was a Kaufmann.

Yosef looked disdainfully at her casual outfit and continued. “Technically, we should call Melissa’s

parents. You don’t look much older than Melissa.”

“Melissa’s parents are out of town. I can represent them.”

As Freya spoke, she looked over at Hannah, who was sitting alone on a chair. This wasn’t the first time

she had met Hannah.

Hannah avoided her gaze and looked away.

Upon checking on Hannah silently, Freya could confirm that Hannah wasn’t badly bruised.

Yosef continued to complain, “Your cousin started the fight, and she even instigated Miss Monaghan to

join the fight. This is a serious offense!”

Freya frowned and turned to Melissa. “What does he mean by that?”

“Hannah and I are good friends. She also got angry when she heard someone talking bad about you,

so she joined the fight,” Melissa whispered to Freya.

Hearing that, Freya rubbed her temples helplessly.

In the call earlier, she asked Yosef who Melissa fought with. He probably misunderstood that and told

her Hannah fought alongside Melissa.

Freya glanced at Hannah. She had to get Hannah out too since the young girl had stood up for her.

“Hannah, come here,” said Freya loudly.

After some hesitation, Hannah silently got up and slowly walked to Freya’s back

Yosef furrowed his brows at Freya.

“The parents of these injured girls will arrive soon. I’ll try to persuade them to settle this privately, but

two of the victims came from wealthy families in Caltun. Be prepared that they might not want to settle

the matter easily.”

Coldly. Freya squinted at him.

The director is just as annoying as back then. The old dean is fair, but he is not in the office now.

As they waited for the parents of the so-called victims to arrive, Yosef went into his office, leaving

Freya, Melissa, and Hannah to wait in the lounge.

Freya sat in the middle with Melissa on her left, Hannah on her right, and Brisa standing next to them.

On the opposite side, the six injured girls sat with bruises and swelling, glaring at Melissa with hatred.

“When my father comes later, he won’t forgive you easily!” hissed the girl in the middle of the six girls

angrily.

Freya took a glance at the other five girls, who seemed to follow the lead of the girl in the middle.

Although the middle girl was still a college student, she wore a luxurious outfit and stood out among

her

peers.

Melissa gritted her teeth and retorted. “I have nothing to fear because I did nothing wrong! You started

it by pointing at my nose first!”

Freya whispered to Melissa, “Stop arguing.”

On the side, Hannah observed Freya silently with an admiring gaze.

During the wait, Melissa quietly told Freya why they got into a fight..

Freya finally understood.

Not long after Melissa enrolled in college, she became close friends with Hannah because the two

shared similar tempers.

During the preparation for Foundation Day, Hannah and Melissa were helping out backstage when they

overheard a girl bad-mouthing Freya.

“The words that Cher used were so indecent… murmured Melissa.

Freya was surprised. She had offended many in her industry before. What could these students curse

about her?

Just then, Hannah chimed in and explained, “Don’t you have a live streaming account called

‘DiligentFrey?” Your assistant, Edward, is the most attractive guy on our campus. Cher has had a crush

on him for a long time.”

“Yeah, some girls called Edward your gigolo. Cher refuted and said that you must have seduced him or

something,” added Melissa.

The words that Cher Wallace used were quite harsh, so Melissa stopped. With a pout, Melissa sat

there and glared at Cher stubbornly.

After listening to the two’s explanation, Freya narrowed her eyes. So, there’s been rumors in Evergreen

University about Edward being my gigolo…

Edward was sensible and mature. He had always treated Freya like an elder sister. Likewise, Freya

treated him like a younger brother. She had never thought that Edward had been subjected to so many

rumors and yet never complained to her.
