Cristina had zero love for this old couple. How on earth could these two country bumpkins get their foot
in the Pennyfeather family’s door? When they walked into the mansion, their eyes were filled with
greed, clearly wanting to take over the place. But to fight Maja, Cristina had to give in to their demands.
“You’re right. How much is left of Neil’s brother’s mortgage?”
“Two hundred and seventy thousand dollars. He has to pay three grand every month. The guy’s
pushing fifty, and his employer is cutting jobs. If he loses his job, he can’t pay off his mortgage. As his
family, you should help him out. You got to give him at least three hundred grand to pay off the
mortgage.”
Cristina chuckled and pulled out a bank card.
“There’s three hundred grand in here. That should clear his debt.”
Hattie Zimmer’s eyes lit up, surprised by Cristina’s quickness to cough up the cash. She swiftly
grabbed the card, rolling her eyes at Maja.
Maja stood in the foyer, unable to stop any of it. After all, Cristina was Neil’s wife, and she held a tenth
of the Penny feather family’s shares. Maja had no say in her giving out the cash.
Hattie Zimmer was pleased with the money but immediately regretted it. If she knew Cristina would
give in so easily, she would’ve asked for half a million. She was now aware of the Pennyfeather family’s
wealth.
Thinking of Cristina’s daughter, Hattie Zimmer had an idea. She could have Neil’s brother’s son
adopted by Cristina and move all her family into the mansion. This way, they’d all live the high life.
Hattie Zimmer had her plan but needed to discuss it with Neil’s brother, Ferris Pennyfeather. He was
probably still at work. Hattie and Abram exchanged a look. They were happy with their $300k for now.
They’d discuss it with Ferris tonight and try to get the whole family to move into the mansion as soon as
possible. As for Neil, sick in his room, Hattie Zimmer couldn’t care less. He was such an ungrateful son,
enjoying the good life alone and never considering helping his family. “All right, we’ll head home
tonight. We’ve got some things to discuss with Ferris. We’ll be back tomorrow.”
She quickly stuffed the card into her pocket, glared at Maja, and left with Abram Pennyfeather.
Maja felt uneasy and turned to Cristina.
“Cristina, what’s the game here?”
Cristina smiled innocently and replied, “You saw them. They are Neil’s parents. I can’t just kick them
out. What if Neil wakes up and blames me?”
Neil had told Cristina that his parents favored his brother. If Neil was awake, he might help his brother
pay off his mortgage, but he wouldn’t let his parents run wild in the Pennyfeather family.
Maja took a deep breath, feeling helpless. Even though she was standing in the Pennyfeather family,
she felt like an outsider. She had no shares. Even her mother’s ten percent share was temporarily
handed over to Cristina by Neil.
Maja picked up her bag, listening to Cristina speak, “Maja, your grandparents are returning tomorrow.
However, if they continue to request money or take belongings from the Pennyfeather family, I may not
be able to prevent it from happening. I will require your assistance in this matter, so please make an
effort to visit the Pennyfeather family frequently.”
Maja chuckled sarcastically and said, “That doesn’t sound like you.”
“After all, they are Neil’s parents.”
As Maja got ready to leave, she found someone in the back seat of her car. But before she could react,
a handkerchief was placed over her nose. A strong smell hit her and her vision blurred.
