Celeste could almost instantly sense Liam’s irritation.

Rolling her eyes, Celeste quickly put on an act.
She let out a soft sigh and said, “If I said I had absolutely zero feelings for him, that would be a bald–
faced lie. How could you have a real crush on someone and then just not feel anything?”
Liam said queitly, “Then why did you reject him and hop into my car instead?”
“Because…” Celeste dragged out the word, then whispered in his ear, “Because it looked like if I didn’t
go with a certain someone, he’d burst into tears right on the spot. I couldn’t bear it.”
Liam was taken aback, then his spirits soared. He wrapped an arm around Celeste’s waist, gripped her
chin and said through gritted teeth, “Who
was about to burst into tears?”
Celeste giggled and pinched his ear. “Were you scared I’d go with him?”
Liam kissed the back of her hand and said, “If you really did go with him, it would be for work and I’d
understand.” He paused and then added, “I suddenly understand how you felt when you were waiting
for me but I couldn’t come because I suddenly got work. How you felt…”
Celeste was surprised, “What did I feel?”
Liam said softly, “Excited, then disappointed. Hot and cold.”
“You’re quite eloquent when you talk about melancholy,” Celeste laughed, “Waiting isn’t the scary part,
it’s waiting without knowing the outcome
that’s scary”
Liam’s eyes went wide as he held her tight, “I won’t make you wait any longer.”
Celeste said, “We’ll see how you perform. You’re still on probation, if you’re not good I can still fire you.”
“What do you want to eat?” Liam asked her.
Celeste thought for a moment, “Shall we fulfil our promise? Sean is about to go back to school, let’s
buy some gifts and go see him and the Dean, what do you think?”
Liam nodded, “Whatever you say.”
Celeste picked up her phone and texted Sean Knott, saying they were coming over for a BBQ tonight
and he should tidy up the yard. They would bring the ingredients.
Sean quickly replied with a “Okay“.
Owen drove them to the nearest mall.
They bought the ingredients at the supermarket first, then Celeste dragged Liam to the mall upstairs for
shopping.
They were dressed very casually. Celeste’s clothes had been bought by Trisha from a live stream but
they were too small for her. It wasn’t worth sending them back, so she gave them to Celeste.
Even though the clothes only cost $7, the fabric was very soft and cool. Celeste initially planned to
wear them as pajamas, but they looked nice
when she put them on, so she wore them outside.
