Marcus was still sporting his usual white shirt and black trousers. He stood tall and elegant next to the
car, his gaze falling on Cornelia who was running towards him. His eyes were full of intense affection
behind his silver–rimmed glasses.
Seeing him up ahead, Cornelia felt a bit shy and slowed down her pace, walking towards him, Why did
you ask me to come out?”
It was hot out and she had been running, her cheeks were flushed and it made her look incredibly
adorable..
Marcus chuckled and ruffled her hair, “Get in the car first, I’ll take you somewhere.”
“Where?” As Marcus reached out to hold her hand, Cornelia not only didn’t extend her hand, but also
instinctively hid it behind her, “It’s too hot, my hands get sweaty.”
Marcus understood her excuse to avoid holding hands, but he didn’t call her out on it. He opened the
passenger door for her and let her get into the car first. Afterward, he got into the driver’s seat and
slowly drove out of the villa.
About ten minutes passed without a word from Cornelia. Marcus glanced at her and noticed her sitting
silently in the passenger seat, “Why aren’t you talking?”
Cornelia said, “I’m thinking”
Marcus asked, “About what?”
Cornelia said, “I’m wondering where you’re taking me.”
Marcus said, “You could have just asked me directly”
Cornelia said, “I did ask, but you didn’t answer.”
Marcus said, “We’ll be there soon. You’ll know when we get there.
Cornelia said, “Oh.”
Marcus said, “Do you remember what I said to you last night before you went to the hospital to see
Granny?*
Of course, Cornelia remembered. It was impossible for her to forget. It was one of the few times a guy
had confessed his feelings to her. She couldn’t forget it even if she wanted to. But she didn’t know how
to face this issue now, so she played dumb, “What did you say last night? I was sleepy. Might have
forgotten right after”
Before Marcus could respond, Cornelia quickly changed the subject, I didn’t see you when I woke up
today. Granny said you went out to handle some business. What were you up to?”
But Marcus didn’t follow her lead, “I told you last night that I think I like you. You haven’t responded to
me yet.”
Cornelia didn’t know how to answer. This guy was really annoying. She had been trying so hard to
change the subject, couldn’t he take a hint? Why did he keep bringing it up?
Did he get a kick out of making her feel awkward?
Marcus said, “Cornelia, avoidance won’t solve anything!
Cornelia decided to turn the tables and take control of the conversation, “Yeah, avoidance won’t solve
anything. I asked you what you were up to, why didn’t you answer me?”
Marcus said, “I was looking into someone”
Marcus had always been observant. When he mentioned Clair last night, Granny Rebecca seemed
overly anxious. So, he decided to dig deeper into Clair. If his hunch was right, this Clair definitely had
something to do with Cornelia.
“Who are you looking for? Did you find them?” Cornelia asked.
Marcus had intended to keep it from her, but Cornelia was a smart girl, she would find out sooner or
later, “It’s Clair,”
