Hannah asked, “Why?”
Jarvis answered, “Because the Hartley Group went bankrupt. Marcus is flat broke and up to his
eyeballs in debt. So he pulled a fast one and faked his own death to skip out on his bills. Don’t you
think people like him who fake their deaths and change their names to dodge debts should be looked
down upon? I just can’t wrap my head around why Comelia still sticks up for him. Has she been
bamboozled by him?”
Hannah didn’t say anything for a moment.
Jarvis went on, “I gotta have a chat with Old Augustine about this. Get him to dig into whether
Cornelia’s been hoodwinked by Marcus. How could she possibly still be so into this guy and so
protective of him?”
Hannah said, “Maybe it’s because you’re an outsider. You only see the side of Marcus he wants you to
see. As for what he’s really like, I believe no one knows better than Comelia.” She had known Cornelia
for so long and knew her personality well. If Cornelia was that protective of Marcus, he must have
something going for
him.
Jarvis said, “I gotta go. I need to call Old Augustine.”
In a rush, Hannah said, “Jarvis, I’m in a tight spot right now. Can’t you stop poking your nose into
Cornelia and her husband’s business? To be honest, not only does Cornelia think her husband is great,
but I also think he’s pretty solid.”
Jarvis asked, “Is he better than me?”
Hannah said, “Do you want the truth?”
Jarvis said, “I don’t want to hear anything unpleasant.”
Hannah said, “If you don’t want to hear it, then quit comparing yourself to Marcus. We should be
focusing on our deal.”
Jarvis said, “Lay it on me. What’s your offer? Make it worth my effort.”
Hannah said, “My house in Blueshell Mansion is worth a hundred million. If you step in, you could get a
hundred million in assets. That’s not a bad deal for you. You’re a businessman; you wouldn’t pass up
money, would you?”
Jarvis said, “Hannah, you should know the last thing I need is money. Trying to tempt me with cash?
Looks like you’re barking up the wrong tree.”
Once, Hannah had heard Steven say that no one ever said they had too much money. If she was
negotiating and the other person said they were not interested in the money, it meant she was not
offering enough, nowhere near enough to make them bend. She added, “My contract with my current
agency is about to expire. I was planning to go independent, but now I can give you a shot at being my
boss. As long as you help me out this time, half of what I earn in the future could be yours.”
As long as the crisis was averted, Hannah was a guaranteed box office hit and she could make quite a
lot of money. This figure was indeed tempting.
But Jarvis had never cared about money, he said, “Sweetheart, I’ve already told you, money won’t
sway me. Give me an offer I can’t refuse.”
But apart from money, Hannah had no idea what else she could offer. “What do you want, then?”
Hannah asked.
Jarvis said, “I want to be with Cornelia!”
Hannah looked at him and retorted, “You’re dreaming.”
Jarvis responded, “Then we have nothing more to discuss.”
Hannah figured he wasn’t really interested in hanging up the phone, so on a whim, she had an idea, “If
you help me out of my mess, I’ll do whatever you need me to do in the future.”
The offer sounded pretty good. But it still wasn’t enough to make Jarvis bite. Just then, his phone
beeped. He must’ve gotten a new message. He glanced at it and said, “Send me the address.”
