At this point, everyone started to mingle and shake hands with Zack, the atmosphere becoming livelier.
Carson called over a few hostesses. Despite Zack’s rare visits to bustling places like this, he remained
unfazed in the face of their toasts and flirtations, handling them with ease. His cold-heartedness and
toughness both frightened and fascinated the hostesses who were all trying their best to get close to
him.
Once, Estelle went to the restroom, and when she came out, she saw Zack leaning against the
corridor.
Under the dim light, Zack was staring intently at Estelle, and in a cold tone, he asked, “Ms. Macclain,
have we met before?”
Emerging from the darkness, Estelle replied nonchalantly, “Really? I don’t remember.”
“Ms. Macclain, have you been to Blackcrystal?” Zack continued to watch her like a hawk, not missing
any hint of emotion on her face.
Blackcrystal was a small coastal country in the southeast of the delta, where various powers were
entrenched all year round due to its geographical location. “I’ve never been there, Estelle replied, her
face expressionless.
“But I think I’ve seen you there.” Zack leaned against the wall, his body tilted forward, radiating an
aggressive aura.
“Ella!”
Someone called her.
Estelle looked up and saw Jonathan striding over.
Jonathan, oozing a cool aura, protectively took Estelle’s hand and gently led her behind him. He turned
to Zack and introduced, “I forgot to tell Mr. Zack, Estelle is my girlfriend.”
Zack straightened up, his gaze sweeping over Estelle, and flashed a grin. “I just thought Ms. Macclain
looked familiar, like I’d seen her somewhere before, so I wanted to ask.”
“Estelle is still a student; she’s always been in J City.” Jonathan’s voice was cold, carrying a hint of
annoyance, apparently disliking the way Zack was looking at Estelle.
Zack nodded, “Then it seems I’ve mistaken her for someone else, my apologies.” And with that, he
turned and walked away.
Jonathan watched Zack’s retreating figure with icy eyes. When he turned back, any trace of hostility
had disappeared. He gently touched Estelle’s face, asking, “Didn’t scare you, did he?”
“He just asked a few questions.” Estelle replied with a light smile.
“Good.” Jonathan took her hand and led her back into the private room.
Yvonne was on the balcony, sipping a glass of wine and enjoying the breeze, when Zack approached.
His eyes were dark as he quietly said, “I’ve met that Estelle before.”
Yvonne looked surprised, “Where?”
“In Blackcrystal.”
Yvonne was even more taken aback, “Are you sure it was Estelle?”
Zack nodded, “A hundred percent sure.”
Estelle had changed a bit since then. Back then, she was very young, but her eyes were harsh and
worldly, not at all childlike.
Now, Estelle’s gaze was calm, and she seemed more like a student.
But no matter how she changed, he knew it was her.
Yvonne raised an eyebrow and asked, “What was Estelle doing in Blackcrystal?”
Zack’s gaze deepened. He couldn’t say more as it involved a top-secret mission, and besides, he had
only met Estelle once and didn’t know her well.
Today, there were quite a few people in the private room, making it exceptionally lively.
The room was hot, and after drinking several glasses of ice water, Estelle started to feel queasy. Taking
advantage of a moment when Jonathan was chatting with Charlie, she excused herself to get some
fresh air.
She went to the pantry to get some water, and heard a commotion outside.
“Mrs. Page, take care!”
