Zach could have done anything he liked to retaliate against Madelyn. He could make her suffer and die
with the snap of his fingers, but he did not.
He had dragged Madelyn to the bathroom to induce vomiting when she had overdosed on sleeping
pills. After several days without eating, he cooked for her and ensured she ate. He even intervened
when she tried to hurt herself to try and relieve the pain she was feeling inside. These actions had all
been unnecessary on his part.
If Zach suddenly showed affection towards Madelyn at a time when she no longer cared for him, it
raised questions about what everything she did in her previous life meant. ‘I had loved him so deeply in
my previous life, even to the point of desperation, yearning for just one glance from him. But what did I
get in the end?‘
After Madelyn left, she heard a loud commotion from the stud. However, she did not care about it.
‘What right does he have to be angry?‘
In the living room, Madelyn reconnected the phone line and called a home renovation company to
change the front door to a secure one. She also ordered a few extra interior locks so that the door
could only be opened from the inside.
Then, she threw away everything Zach had bought from the fridge without leaving anything behind.
These were things sent by Kevin. After the spiking food incident, Madelyn had never touched anything
related to Zach.
Back in her room, Madelyn closed the doors and windows tightly. As long as she did not let her guard
down, Zach would not have any chance to come in even if Margaret had gone home.
What she said just now was only partially true. Speaking those self–destructive words in front of Zach
always gave Madelyn a peculiar sense of pleasure, even though she had consistently been the one
hurt.
George returned to the hospital. “I’m sorry, Mr. Arnold. There was no one at Southern Haven Villas. It
seems that Ms. Jent isn’t there.”
Ethan sat on the hospital bed with an intravenous drip in his hand. His face was sickly pale. “Get out!”
“Mr. Arnold, I’ll go find Mrs. Arnold Sr. now and have her explain the situation. Perhaps…”
“Get out!” Ethan shouted in anger.
“Yes.”
The nurse remained outside the ward, holding the medication for treating Ethan’s wounds. If she did
not administer his wounds soon, they would get infected. George did not delay any longer. He left
behind bodyguards and servants and hurried back to the Arnold residence.
Evelyn was feeding the sheep in the pasture. She sighed with worry upon hearing George’s words,
“I’ve warned him countless times not to get involved in that woman’s affairs, but he never listens. What
does Madelyn lack in comparison to that woman? You tell him that if he wants Madelyn back, he should
focus on recovering in the hospital properly.”
