“Jadie, please leave.” Madelyn spoke coldly, “Everyone, leave. My father needs rest, and you are
disturbing him. She turned away, no longer paying them any attention, and uninterested in watching
them keeping up their act.
“Madelyn…” Rosario began, her eyes filled with sorrow, somehow turning Madelyn into the villain, as if
she had done something unforgivable.
“Out!” Madelyn no longer wanted to see them. Jadie pressed her lips together,” Rosario, we should
leave.”
After Rosario was helped out of the room by Jadie, Zach closed the door. Jadie didn’t know what had
transpired between Rosario and Madelyn. The old Madelyn had regarded Rosario as family, while now,
she treated Rosario like an enemy.
“Zach, what happened between Rosario and Madelyn?” Jadie asked, puzzled. Zach’s gaze was icy as
it landed on Rosario, “In the future, don’t seek her out without my permission. If you wish to stay at the
Jent residence, do what you’re supposed to do.”
Rosario, tears streaming down her face, nodded faintly. With a weary expression, she said, “Mr. Jardin,
I will spend my entire life at the Jent residence atoning to Madelyn.”
Watching the slumped, retreating figure, Jadie asked, “Zach, what’s going on with Madelyn and
Rosario? Are you hiding something from me?”
Ever since Rosario had been hospitalized, Jadie sensed something was off. During Rosario’s extended
stay at the hospital, Madelyn hadn’t visited once. Back then, in the hospital corridor, Madelyn had
ignored Rosario, departing without a second glance.
“It’s not your concern. It’s getting late; I’ll take you back to the apartment.”
“I won’t leave. Where you go, I’ll follow. Please don’t leave me…” Jadie pleaded, her eyes filled with
sadness as she held onto Zach’s arm tightly. Zach’s response was firm this time, ‘ The current situation
isn’t suitable for you to stay here.”
“Why? Is there something I’m not aware of? I used to live here, right? Madelyn’s looking after Mr. Jent.
I can help too. Think of it as a way for me to give back for all he’s done. Can’t you let me stay, please?”
“No room for negotiation.” With a firm hand, Zach gently ushered her to his car and drove her to his
apartment in Grand Court.
After dropping off Jadie, Zach returned to the Jent residence. The servant was taking Madelyn’s
untouched dinner back to the kitchen. Zach asked, “She didn’t eat anything?”
The servant nodded nervously, afraid of making a mistake and getting dismissed. She explained, “Miss
Jent ate breakfast, but nothing else. I tried to give her food, but she said she wasn’t hungry.”
Zach furrowed his brow without showing much emotion. “Prepare some pastina for her. Have it ready
when she wants it.”
“Okay, Mr. Jardin.”
As Zach headed upstairs, he saw Madelyn coming down from the third floor. She looked like she just
had a shower, with wet hair tips. She had on light pajamas and carried a book and a thin blanket.
Madelyn’s intentions were quite clear. She walked by Zach like he wasn’t there. But Zach quickly
grabbed her hand. “Go back upstairs,” he said, looking right at her.
“Father shouldn’t be left alone,” she said with a distant look that she always had since she came back.
“You should sleep and not worry about me.”
