“Craig knows about Charles stealing the S404 RNA virus. I’m not sure whether he knew about it all
along, but for now, he’s the most suspicious.”
Gwendolyn pondered for a moment and shook her head. “The year when something happened to the
fifteen-year-old me, though I don’t quite remember the whole story, I know very well that the one who
could catch me off guard must surely be someone I know. Hector tried to mess with me previously
because I hold the right of inheritance. Compared to him, Craig has nothing to do with the Harris
family’s inheritance. He’s an accomplice at most. I doubt he’s the mastermind.”
Cedrick fell silent for a short while before he raised another possibility.
“Perhaps the real mastermind doesn’t have that much power? He’s only taking advantage of a
privileged bigshot like Craig.”
“Yeah, I share the same sentiments.”
Cedrick caressed her head. “Don’t think about it anymore. Hurry and eat your meal. In any case, with
me around, I won’t let anyone harm you.”
Gwendolyn curled her lips into a smile.
Her starry eyes glinted as she spoke in a tone laced with a hint of slyness. “They are out to hurt me. If I
keep hiding, it’ll only make them do the same. But if I do something to add fuel to the fire, I’m sure it’ll
trigger them to take action recklessly. The more they act, the more flaws they’ll leave behind!”
Cedrick froze. He was wholly mesmerized by the calmness in her gaze.
“What are you planning to do?”
“I’m actually not interested in the succession rights. But since everyone wants it so much, I think it’ll be
better if I accept it.”
Arrogance was glistening in her eyes as she raised her head high.
Cedrick, however, was worried. “Gwenny, why don’t you think about it again at a later time? You’re
pregnant now, and our wedding is next month.”
He did not want anything to happen at this juncture.
Gwendolyn nodded. “Don’t worry. I’ll take things slowly and won’t act impulsively. I’ll take good care of
myself and never let anything happen to the baby and me.”
Complicated emotions churned Cedrick, but he said nothing further and lowered his head to continue
eating.
…
When Gwendolyn arrived at Angle the following morning, Caesar was already inside her office waiting
for her.
Seeing her enter, he immediately got up and asked, “Ms. Harris, I’m sorry for making Mr. Jenson get
the wrong idea last night. Y-You guys didn’t quarrel after going back, did you?”
“Everything’s okay. Don’t worry.”
Gwendolyn wore a smile on her face as she walked toward her office chair and sat down. “What about
the wound on your face?”
Caesar touched his face and smiled indifferently. “I got an ice pack from the hotel and put it over my
wound last night. It’s much better now.”
Regarding that incident, Gwendolyn was truly apologetic. “I had a chat with my fiancé last night after
we got home. He knows it was rash of him to hit you like that, so he said he wants to treat you to a nice
meal. Why don’t we have one after work today?”
“Sure,” Caesar agreed to it readily without any hesitation. “Speaking of which, I should be the one to
apologize instead. Those words Mr. Jenson said last night were right. Since I’m here in Chanaea, I
should conform to the local practices. I apologize for using Erihal’s etiquette to greet you. Please
excuse my impertinence.”
Seeing that, Gwendolyn saved the formalities as well. “I’m glad that you’ve thought it through. The legal
department is already printing the contract. Why don’t you head to the lounge to grab a bite first?”
Caesar politely stood up. “I shan’t take up too much of your time then, Ms. Harris.”
The two exchanged a friendly smile.
Shortly after Gwendolyn turned on her computer and switched into work mode, the phone began
ringing again.
It was her father, Marcus.
She answered the phone at once.
“Honey, how have you been? Do you have any severe pregnancy symptoms?”
Gwendolyn was busy typing away on the keyboard as she halfheartedly answered, “I’m all right. The
symptoms can be quite bad sometimes, but you don’t have to worry, Dad. I’m fine.”
“That’s good to hear.” Marcus paused slightly before he asked in uncertainty, “Are you free this
weekend?”
Gwendolyn shifted her gaze to the bottom right corner of her computer screen and chuckled in
amusement. “Dad, it’s only Monday today. My schedule hasn’t been planned that far yet. I can’t foresee
the future, so how would I know if I’m free?”
“Honey, can you keep this weekend free and make a trip back to the Harris residence?”
Gwendolyn did not answer immediately.
Likewise, Marcus stayed quiet briefly. As if worried that she would turn that offer down, he earnestly
added, “Honey, I’m old and I am getting weaker. I want to put my burden aside so that I can play with
my grandchildren in the future. Someone has to inherit and shoulder the responsibilities of Harris
Group. I hope you can come back this weekend and sign the succession agreement. Is that all right?”
Gwendolyn, who was busy typing away, stiffened at once.
Since her return from Salinsburgh, Marcus would visit her whenever he had the opportunity and
convince her to work at Harris Group so that she could familiarize herself with the company to ease her
succession in the near future.
Despite so, she had always made it clear that she was not interested in inheriting the company. Her
determination to expand Angle’s business from Fairlake to Salinsburgh was mainly because she
wanted to get out of her family’s control and earn her own success.
Surprisingly, this time…
At the thought of the plan she had in mind while analyzing the situation with Cedrick, she did not refuse
Marcus’ request. “All right, Dad. I’ll make time this weekend.”
It was beyond Marcus’ imagination that Gwendolyn would agree so readily this time. For some time, he
did not quite register the response.
Immense joy struck him when he snapped back to his senses. “Good girl, Honey! I’ll wait for you this
weekend!”
The father and daughter then had a casual exchange for a while longer. Marcus also nagged at her and
reminded her to watch her diet and safety before he eventually concluded the call.
Later that afternoon, Gwendolyn signed a contract with Caesar.
Cedrick arrived at Gwendolyn’s office long ago. While waiting for her, he sat on the couch and browsed
through the books she had on her bookshelf.
Signing a contract was something that required extra caution. Caesar brought his legal team from
Erihal with him to vet the contract, and only after both parties agreed that there were no problems did
he sign and stamp the agreement.
The whole process took over two hours to complete.
When Gwendolyn returned to her office to pack her belongings, she saw Cedrick sleeping on the
couch.
She tiptoed her way over and carefully put the book in his grip aside before sitting next to him to admire
his looks.
A mischievous idea crossed Gwendolyn’s mind after seeing how soundly asleep the man was.
She stretched out a hand, intending to pinch his nose with her fingers to wake him up.
Her fingers were so close to touching his nose, yet she could not bear to do it.
Ultimately, she chose to use a sweet kiss to wake him up. Leaning over, she left a peck on his thin lips.
“Gwenny?”
Cedrick’s long eyelashes fluttered lightly, and while still in a daze, he saw Gwendolyn’s familiar yet
otherworldly gorgeous face before his eyes.
He instantly felt extremely peaceful and calm.
Stretching out his arms, Cedrick pulled Gwendolyn into his embrace, and flipping his body over, he
burrowed her into the couch and kissed her lips passionately.
Their breaths mingled, and he found himself hopelessly obsessed with her as if he was intoxicated by a
pleasant poison.
After an intense kiss, Cedrick lay on his side with his left arm propping his head up and his right hand
gently pinching Gwendolyn’s nose as he gazed at her adoringly.
“How nice it’ll be if I can lock you up so that only I can look at you and you can only smile at me.”
“What are you thinking?” Pretending to be angry, Gwendolyn knitted her brows and reached out to
smack his sturdy back before giving him a pinch.
She repeated her actions as she cheekily tried to flirt with the man before her.
“Ms. Harris, Mr. Rotundum is outside. He’s waiting to grab a meal with you after you finish packing.”
Joanne knocked on the door, but noticing it was slightly ajar, she pushed it open and entered the room
only to see what was happening on the couch.
