He lifted his head to direct an icy gaze in Charles‘ direction.
Without hesitation, he retorted, “You’re overestimating yourself. If I can’t protect Gwendolyn and the
children, why do you think you can do a better job than me?”
After all, Cedrick had helped Charles ascend to the position of head of the Newton family.
Charles was occupied with developing Newton Group and would still need to rely heavily on the
support and assistance of Gwendolyn and Cedrick in the future. In contrast, Charles paled in
comparison to Cedrick’s power and influence.
With a mere flick of his finger, Cedrick could–cause–an earthquake in Chanaea with his deep–rooted
influence, and Charles couldn’t hold a candle to him.
Cedrick had tolerated Charles‘ snide remarks for a while, but there were moments when he couldn’t
hold back and would retort in response. This time, however, he had reached his breaking point and
snapped.
Charles was both Benedict and Zendaya’s godfather, so Cedrick wouldn’t label him as a scheming
person for now.
Charles‘ face paled as he flashed a self–deprecating smile. “I’ve indeed overestimated myself. With
you around, Gwendolyn and the children will lead a blissful life.”
That’s more like it.
Cedrick’s displeased expression softened slightly. In an unusual move, he placed a piece of grilled
meat onto Charles‘ plate instead of offering it to Gwendolyn first.
“Eat up,and don’t complain that we don’t treat you well. I hope the food will shut you up.”
Hearing his direct remark, Charles felt slightly awkward but couldn’t do anything else about it.
Gwendolyn couldn’t help but suppress her laughter at the rivalry between Cedrick and Charles. “Not
many people in Chanaea get the privilege of tasting Ceddy’s grilled meat. It’s quite a delicacy, so enjoy,
Mr. Newton. He’s an excellent grill master.”
Charles smiled and nodded without a word.
Gwendolyn turned to look at Jennifer and helped her to get food to her taste.
Charles noticed she showed more attention to Jennifer than to him. Lowering his head, he stuffed the
piece of grilled meat into his mouth and munched on it, finding it tasteless.
At Fairlake, it was getting dark. After their sumptuous dinner, Inez and Kieran strolled along the street.
Ever since they got engaged, they would go to work together during the day and return to the Mossey -
residence for dinner at night. After dinner, they would retire to their respective rooms.
They didn’t have much time to date. In fact, Kieran hadn’t even gotten to hold her hand yet.
The upscale shopping area was relatively quiet, with few people around. The dim street lamps
illuminated them, casting enchanting shadows that added a touch of warmth to the surroundings.
Tamping down his anxiety, Kieran asked, “Inez, we’re on our first date tonight. Can I hold your hand?”
Inez couldn’t believe he would ask that question as they were already engaged.
Nevertheless, she was deeply touched by his consideration and respect for her wishes.
“Sure,” she agreed.
Upon getting her approval, Kieran mustered his courage and stretched his hand out to hold her tiny
hand.
Their warm palms gently met, and he interlocked his fingers with hers. It was a simple act of hand-
holding that couples often engage in.,
As their hands entwined, a surge of warmth and electricity coursed through their bodies: Though it was
a simple act of holding hands, both Inez and Kieran couldn’t help but blush at the intimate sensation.
Their palms felt incredibly sensitive while their bodies tensed up.
They leisurely walked along the quiet street, savoring every step and cherishing the moments they
shared.
Sometime later, Inez broke the silence. “We’ve watched a movie and had dinner together. Mr. Kieran,
where are you bringing me next?”
To the hotel so we can spend a night together, of course.
As they walked, Kieran grew increasingly nervous. “I picked a nice hotel today. We’re almost there. I
believe you’ll like it.”
Inez said nothing.
He picked something nice? I don’t think so.
When she learned they were going to watch a romance movie tonight, she thought that Kieran had
finally come around. To her surprise, it was a teenage movie.
They had graduated from university a few years ago and were already working professionals, so Inez
felt a sense of mismatch as they sat in the cinema watching the movie.
After the movie ended, the atmosphere in the theater was rather somber, with the majority of the
audience consisting of students who had come to watch the film.
Inez didn’t hold high hopes that he would have prepared any surprises, but she said nothing and
allowed him to lead her along the street.
Even the simple act of strolling brought immense happiness to her. She found more joy in continuing
their leisurely walk than in heading to the hotel and discovering the potentially frightening surprise
awaiting them there.
As she let her mind wander off, they arrived at the hotel a few minutes later.
Inez raised her head, and the sight that greeted her made her speechless.
Even though she had braced herself, she was still shocked.
“A love hotel? Are you serious, Mr. Kieran?” she blurted out.
Kieran whirled around to gaze at her solemnly. “We’re already engaged. Isn’t it normal to spend a night
here?”
No, of course not!
Inez was about to lose her mind.
We might be engaged, but this is technically our first date. No one would bring their date to a love hotel
on the first date! I can’t believe he’s serious. Is he pretending to be serious, or is he really that
clueless?
Tamping down her embarrassment, Inez blushed and asked in a tiny voice, “Don’t tell me y–you
selected an SM–themed room with a huge bed.”
“Hmm?” Kieran gave her a baffled look. “What do you mean by that? I picked a room with an elegant
name, so I don’t know if it’s the theme you want. If you prefer that, I can ask the person in charge to
change our room.
“No! I don’t like that. Let’s go in,” Inez urged hastily.
Aware of the warmth spreading across her cheeks, she instinctively placed her hands on them, hoping
to cool down the blush. Feeling shy, she hurried ahead of him and entered the hotel.
After they checked–in, Kieran took the card and held her hand, leading her into the elevator
Their room number was 1314.
Upon arrival at their room, Inez gulped nervously. Curiosity welled up within her as she wondered how
the room would look.
Kieran pressed the card against the lock, and two seconds later, the door unlocked with two crisp
beeps.
He inserted the card into the holder, and as he did, the lights lit up.
The room was adorned with elegant decor, featuring a large round bed at its center. Surrounding the
bed were delicate red silk curtains, lending an air of intrigue and allure.
Across from the bed stood a transparent crystal tub, complemented by provocative artwork adorning
the walls. Inez couldn’t help but feel a wave of embarrassment wash over her as she took in the sight.
I wonder who designed this transparent tub. It’s so… Anyway, I won’t be using it.
Her mind was clear, yet her heart raced with excitement, reminiscent of a young girl experiencing love
for the first time.
Kieran was no better. This was his first time planning such a romantic date, and he couldn’t help but
feel nervous.
“Uh, Inez, why don’t you go take a shower? I’ll take a shower after you. After that, we should sleep
early.”
“Okay.”
Inez turned around and strode into the shower.
Soon, she discovered a serious problem–the bathroom door didn’t have a lock!
She could only close it, but a gap remained, leaving her feeling insecure. Whether she needed to use
the toilet or take a shower, the lack of privacy made her uneasy. Moreover, the door was transparent,
which meant anyone outside could see her inside.
Despair crept up her heart.
After fretting for a bit, she decided to be honest with Kieran. “Mr. Kieran, there’s no lock on the
bathroom door. Please don’t come in while I’m inside. Stay near the bed!”
No lock? Kieran was also dumbfounded. What about me when I take a shower later?
Both didn’t have any dating experience and were naïve.
“Inez, don’t worry. I won’t come over when you take a shower,” he promised.
Soon, the sound of flowing water could be heard from the bathroom.
Kieran’s posture was rigid as he perched on the edge of the bed. He felt incredibly nervous, unsure of
what to do with his hands.
The last time he had come close to getting to fourth base was when he had relied on the courage
alcohol provided.
This time, it was different as he was completely sober.
He recalled the dating strategies he had read online and pulled out a few things from his pocket,
placing them on the bedside table.
Staring at the box of condoms, he spaced out, his mind in a turmoil.
A brief hesitation later, he decided to ask Inez’s opinion. It wasn’t suitable to display the things now and
risk scaring Inez.
With that thought in mind, he reached out for the items. His hand was inches away from them when he
heard a low gasp of despair coming from the bathroom.
Immediately, he grew wary. “Inez, what’s wrong? Did you fall down?”
“No…” Inez sounded exasperated.
What the f*ck is wrong with this hotel? I can’t believe there is no towel or bathrobe in the bathroom!
