The smile on Gwendolyn’s lips turned into a frown.
She and Asher exchanged glances, the latter gulping as he waited nervously for her reply.
Gwendolyn stared at him in silence for some time before finally saying, “I accept your apology, but I
don’t think I can forgive you just yet. The reason I returned to the Harris residence today is to visit Dad.
So let’s not talk about other matters.”
Asher’s expression turned grim.
He had brought up Gwendolyn on his own. He knew better than anyone that this was her refusing to
forgive him.
He suppressed his disappointment and flashed her a smile. “It’s okay. I’m willing to wait for the day that
you forgive me.”
Gwendolyn’s gaze was locked on him, but she said nothing.
As she was about to leave the ancestral hall to look for her father, Sienna barged in from the first floor.
She sounded horrified as she yelled, “Hubby! Dad… Dad flatlined!”
The terrifying news felt like thunder had struck Mount Tranquil.
Gwendolyn’s eyes were red, and tears streaked down her face as she rushed up the stairs. Asher
stood up while being careful of his knees before he followed her.
Treyton, who had been in the great hall, ran upstairs after hearing Sienna shout.
“Dad!”
The few of them yelled at the top of their lungs. However, the heart of the elderly man on the man had
stopped. His eyes were closed as though he was sleeping peacefully.
Kieran sat by Marcus’ bed. His usual cold exterior seemed to have broken down as his eyes reddened
from crying.
Sadness filled the air of the hospital room. Gwendolyn supported herself on the door frame as her tears
fell uncontrollably, her heart in immense pain.
However, the grief in her eyes was soon replaced with fury. She took out her phone and dialed Ezra’s
number.
“Have everyone from Shadow Bell look for Evelyn! I want her dead!”
Kieran and Treyton were in charge of Marcus’ funeral.
As Gwendolyn was pregnant and could not attend the funeral, Cedrick hurried home to comfort her and
help with the funeral in her place.
Everyone from the organization was deployed to search through the river bank for Evelyn. They even
went to the nearby village and interrogated and investigated each house.
There was still no news of Evelyn after two days. It seemed as though she had disappeared into thin
air.
Gwendolyn was furious. However, she was worried about the babies she was carrying. She
suppressed her anger and asked Treyton to come to the villa.
“Treyton, we still can’t find Evelyn. However, I must make her pay the price for her sins and for killing
Dad.”
Naturally, Treyton understood how Gwendolyn felt.
“Kiddo, what do you plan on doing? I’ll give you my full support.”
Gwendolyn’s eyes darkened when she thought of Evelyn. “Have all the news stations report her death.
Say she suddenly heard the news of Dad’s death during her travels. Distraught, she accidentally fell
into the river and drowned.”
Treyton was taken aback. “By doing that, she’ll never be able to return to the Harris residence even if
she were alive. Is your plan to not let her live on with the name ‘Evelyn Harris?”‘
“That’s right.”
“All right. I understand. Leave it to me.”
After Marcus’ death, Asher was no longer in charge. Evelyn had also disappeared without a trace.
Gwendolyn was now the head of the Harris family, and everyone lived in harmony and peace.
Those peaceful days went by quick.
Eight months later, Gwendolyn’s belly had grown rounder. She still looked beautiful and delicate, her
skin smooth and fair.
She sat on the couch while watching a movie that was projected onto a giant screen. Meanwhile,
Cedrick was in the kitchen cutting some fruits for her.
Just as she was lost in the movie, she felt the baby in her stomach kick.
She breathed slowly and deeply as she tried to relieve her intense pain.
“Ceddy!” she yelled.
Cedrick put down the fruits he was washing and ran out of the kitchen. He squatted before her to check
on her condition.
“Are you about to give birth?”
Gwendolyn furrowed her brows in pain as she shook her head. “One of the babies kicked me.”
Cedrick’s heart ached for her. He stared at her stomach and gritted his teeth.
“This troublesome brat! I’m sure he’ll be extremely naughty in the future! He made you go through so
much pain. Wait until he gets older. I’ll avenge you by teaching him a lesson!”
Gwendolyn giggled.
“Don’t be so mean. They’re both still babies. Of course, they don’t know anything.”
Cedrick reached forward to caress her abdomen gently. He was still huffing in anger as he said, “But he
caused you so much pain! I’ll make sure he suffers in the future!”
Gwendolyn could not help but laugh. His complaint amused her.
“The babies can hear you. They’ll hold a grudge. When they’re older, they’ll definitely be on my side. By
then, the three of us might be bullying you instead!”
Cedrick grinned. As long as she was happy, he could care less about anything.
Gwendolyn was about to say something again when she felt a stabbing pain in her lower abdomen.
She scrunched her eyebrows as she tried to bear with the pain.
“What’s wrong? Did he kick you again?”
Gwendolyn shook her head.
All of a sudden, a thought flashed across her mind as the pain slowly subsided. “Hubby! I think… I think
I might be giving birth!”
Cedrick was shocked. He quickly messaged Nico, Summer, Kieran, Treyton, and Jennifer before
carrying Gwendolyn and rushing toward the hospital.
By the time Gwendolyn was sent into the maternity ward, everyone had arrived. They surrounded her
and showered her with concern.
Gwendolyn was stunned to see the group of people. She turned to look at Cedrick beside her and said,
“Why did you call for so many people? Do you want them to watch me give birth?”
Cedrick’s palms were sweaty, his voice trembling. He looked to be more nervous than Gwendolyn.
“I told you, I want to experience the labor pain machine again when you give birth so we can share the
pain. However, I’m scared I can’t accompany you in the room, so I called them here to stay with you
and talk to you.”
Gwendolyn tightened her grip on his hand. “No, you can’t. There are too many people. I’ll get nervous. I
only need you in here with me.”
“But…” He still wanted to experience and share her pain.
Kieran stepped forward to explain, “You don’t need to experience it one more time. The doctor will
come in soon to check how much she has dilated. When the time is right, they’ll give her an epidural.”
Cedrick and Gwendolyn were confused.
However, Gwendolyn quickly returned to her senses as she smiled in surprise. “I didn’t know that
medicine is so advanced now. Kieran, why didn’t you tell me that earlier? I was so nervous!”
On the other hand, Cedrick was stunned. “Back then, when you asked me to experience the labor pain
machine, were you doing it to play a joke on me?”
Kieran’s expression darkened, but he kept silent.
The group of people said a few encouraging words before leaving the room.
Fifteen minutes later, Gwendolyn was pushed into the labor room. Cedrick was by her side the entire
time.
The doctor checked the babies’ position in Gwendolyn’s womb. They were in the right position for a
natural birth.
Gwendolyn felt much better after taking the epidural. It did not hurt as much as the rumors said when
she gave birth.
Cedrick was anxious as he held her hand tight. He was shaking non-stop, his jawline obvious from how
tightly clenched his teeth were.
Gwendolyn turned to look at him. She reached up to caress his handsome face before flashing him a
smile. “Don’t be afraid, Ceddy. It’ll be a breeze.”
Cold sweat beaded on his forehead. He complained in a tiny voice, “You make it sound so easy! It’ll be
great if giving birth is like that!”
Gwendolyn could only smile.
After six hours of agony, the babies were delivered safely.
The nurses cleaned the babies and wrapped them in blankets before calling Cedrick.
“Congratulations, Mr. Jenson! You are the father of a baby boy and a baby girl! Come and have a look!”
However, Cedrick did not move. He could not be bothered with the children. The only thought in his
mind was to help Gwendolyn wipe the sweat off her forehead. His heart ached as he stared at her.
Gwendolyn smiled weakly. “You won’t have a look at the babies?”
Cedrick’s expression turned solemn. He only wanted to stay by her side. “They’re not important as
you.”
