Gwendolyn, who was drifting in and out of consciousness at the time, heard the conversation between.
Cedrick and the doctor.
Retrograde amnesia? I won’t be able to remember anything?
When she was fifteen, Evelyn injected her with some kind of neurotoxin and pushed her into the ocean.
That resulted in her losing her memories once.
She highly doubted that the single blow she received was enough to cause memory loss.
Why does this doctor sound like Kieran? Is it a thing for doctors to try and scare the family members of
patients?
Gwendolyn let out a silent sigh at the thought of that. Her eyelids felt so heavy that she could barely
open her eyes. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she was extremely exhausted and dizzy at the same time.
She closed her eyes and continued to rest without making a sound.
The ward fell silent once again after the doctor left.
As Cedrick held her hand, she could clearly feel that he was trembling intensely.
A few minutes later, she heard him sobbing softly as teardrops fell onto the back of her hand.
What? Why is Cedrick crying? I’m still alive and well!
Gwendolyn’s heart ached as his tears continued landing on her hand.
She mustered all of her strength to fight against the overwhelming fatigue and opened her eyes slightly.
Cedrick’s eyes were reddened and filled with despair, and he looked as if he was on the verge of
breaking down.
That was the first time she had seen him in such a state.
She moved her fingers to let Cedrick know that she was awake.
“Gwenny? You’re awake? How are you feeling? I’ll go get the doctor!”
Cedrick was about to get up when Gwendolyn grabbed his hand.
She wanted to ask him why he was crying like a baby, but she was so tired that she only managed to
say, “Why…
Cedrick stared at her briefly in surprise, only to sink deeper into despair moments later.
His tears fell uncontrollably as he lowered his head and sobbed, “You really have lost your memories…
How could you forget me? How could you…”
Gwendolyn simply stared at him in confusion.
“We’ve had it rough, but we made it through everything! We even have two adorable kids! How could
you forget…”
Gwendolyn felt speechless when she saw Cedrick, who was usually strong and fearless, crying like a
baby.
It was her first time seeing him lose control of his emotions.
Gwendolyn let out a sigh and mustered her strength to say, “Stop crying. I didn’t lose my memories.”
There was still a hint of doubt in Cedrick’s eyes when he heard that.
“Who am I, then?” he asked with a sniffle.
“My husband.”
“What’s my name?”
“Cedrick Jenson,” Gwendolyn replied quickly without any hesitation in order to reassure him.
Feeling somewhat relieved, Cedrick continued his series of questions.
“What’s our son’s name?”
“Benedict Jenson.”
“And our daughter?”
“Zendaya Harris.”
Cedrick breathed a huge sigh of relief before asking his most important question. “Who was your first
love?”
Gwendolyn froze. “What?”
First love? What is he talking about?
Cedrick tightened his grip on her hand as he pressed on with reddened eyes, “Answer the question.”
Gwendolyn pondered for a while before replying. “Charles Newton?”
There, that should do the trick! I should pass the memory test, right?
Gwendolyn flashed Cedrick a smile with her pale lips and waited for him to kiss her.
However, Cedrick began trembling as though he had been plunged into despair once again.
“I knew it! You did love Charles! That’s why you two look so happy when chatting on a video call!
Gwenny, do you still love him? D-Do you at least love me more than him?” he asked with his face pale
and a sad look in his eyes.
Gwendolyn’s eyes grew cold as she beckoned at him with her other hand, which wasn’t hooked up to
the IV drip. “Come here.”
When Cedrick leaned over to let her touch his face, she grabbed him by the cheek and gave it a pinch.
Because Gwendolyn had yet to regain her strength, her pinch was incredibly weak and only caused a
slight stinging sensation.
Cedrick simply sat there with his brow furrowed and let her pinch away.
“You’re a naughty boy for overthinking things, Ceddy. I would have given you a beating if I weren’t this
weak right now,” Gwendolyn mumbled weakly.
Cedrick kept quiet and lowered his head, his long eyelashes concealing the guilty look in his eyes.
Gwendolyn loosened her grip on his cheek and said seriously, “I only see Charles as a childhood
crush. nothing more. I have never loved him. You are the only person I have ever loved.”
Whatever feelings of insecurity Cedrick had was gone when he heard that, and he kissed her palm with
a relieved smile on his face.
“Thank goodness you didn’t lose your memories, Gwenny. I’m glad you still remember me.”
Gwendolyn rolled her eyes and let out a snicker. “Oh? So, you were just testing me to see how much I
could remember?”
Cedrick tightened his grip on her hand and said with a faint smile, “Of course I know how much you
love me, Gwenny. It’s just that… there are some things that kind of piss me off.”
“It’s all in the past now,” Gwendolyn let out a soft chuckle. “Anyway, how are things going with the
investigation on the ambush? Did you manage to obtain any leads?”
Cedrick shook his head. “It has only been a few hours since the ambush, so it’s too soon to be
expecting results. The police in Astoria are focusing their investigations on Paul, though. I believe you
suspect him as well, right?”
Gwendolyn nodded. “Yeah, I do. There aren’t many out there who have the ability to make such a bold
move in Astoria.”
Cedrick agreed with her statement. “Also, Neal has caught the man who attacked you. I was going to
deal with him myself, but I’ll let you do it now that you’re awake.”
Gwendolyn wasn’t exactly known to be merciful toward those who hurt her.
“They love using clubs, so get those with spikes and return the favor hundredfold. Hit them with it
dozens. of times daily for a few days. Just make sure to keep them alive throughout the torture.”
Cedrick gave her an affectionate pinch on the nose. “All right, Gwenny. We’ll do it your way.”
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Those words had barely left his mouth when someone knocked on the door.
Annie opened the door slightly and peeked into the room as she asked. “I heard Ms. Harris is sick, so
figured I’d drop by and visit her since Paul brought me here for a checkup. Do you mind if we come in
Cedrick had his back facing the door, and his face turned gloomy instantly.
Gwendolyn weakly turned her head to look the other way, which made it obvious that she didn’t want to
see them. She couldn’t even be bothered to maintain a polite attitude toward them.
Oblivious to her reaction, Annie opened the door and let herself into the ward.
“Ill take your silence as a yes, Ms. Hants”
She ignored Cedrick’s solemn expression as she placed the fruits and flowers on the nightstand.
Paul had his hands in the pockets of his slacks as he followed Annie into the ward and stood at the foot
of the bed.
Annie stood next to Cedrick as she glanced worriedly at Gwendolyn and asked, “What happened to
Ms. Harris? She looks really lethargic.”
