In response, Charles shook his head. “Don’t. It’ll rouse Charles’ suspicions. Besides, these are external
wounds. I can endure the pain for a few days. Once I leave the interrogation room, I’ll have them
treated properly.”
He seems to be holding on, as expected of someone who went through tough training before. Instead
of insisting on Charles’ treatment, Cedrick said, “All right. In that case, I’ll leave a first-aid kit in the room
so you can tend to your own wounds.”
Nodding, Charles recalled Gwendolyn and lowered his eyes. “Did Gwen ask you to rescue me?”
Glimpsing at him, Cedrick answered, “No. She’s resting at home because she is exhausted. Hence,
she doesn’t know what happened to you yet.”
“Exhausted? Is she feeling unwell?” Charles promptly lifted his eyes in a panic.
Cedrick’s eyebrows furrowed imperceptibly while he stared at Charles. “No. It’s a private matter
between a married couple. Do you have to ask about that?”
Realization dawned on Charles before he lowered his eyes again and tightened his fist. “How… How
are you and Gwen doing this past year?”
Very good,” replied Cedrick.
Nico added, “Cedrick bequeathed her all of his assets, making her the richest woman in the city. In fact,
he didn’t allow Gwendolyn to cook in the kitchen even once after they got married. Also, because
Gwendolyn doesn’t like anyone else disturbing them, they don’t hire housekeepers. There was a time
he was responsible for doing the chores, preparing the meals, tending to the babies, and even taking
care of Gwendolyn during her postpartum confinement. While he wasn’t doing those, he handled
matters related to Jenson Group and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Basically, he took care of
everything inside and out of the house by himself. Later on, Gwendolyn hired a nanny to care for the
babies because she pitied him.
Grinning, he continued, “I’m truly impressed by him. If it were me, I doubt I could’ve pulled it off as well
as he did.”
Charles listened to Nico’s words quietly and was relieved. “That’s good. Since you snatched her away
from me, you should treat her as best as you can for the rest of your life. If you break her heart, I’ll do
whatever it takes to seize her back.”
Upon hearing that, Cedrick scoffed coldly, “That’ll never happen. Besides, she was always my woman,
while you were the one who tried to steal her away from me.”
Then, the two men stared at each other fiercely.
While they were no longer hostile toward each other, it didn’t mean they became best buddies. None of
them spoke a word as though they were both thinking about different things.
Sensing that the atmosphere in the car was growing tense, Nico coughed twice. “We’ve arrived at the
interrogation room.”
The interrogation room located on the outskirts of Salinsburgh was a very well-hidden location.
Nico cuffed Charles again and escorted him out of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, Cedrick tidied his collar and marched forward.
The captain of Team Nine, Jasper, was already waiting around fifty meters in front of the interrogation
room with a few soldiers
When Nico saw them, he stopped holding Charles’ arm and dragged the latter forcefully. “You’re an
animal. Charles! How dare you try to bite me. Today, I’ll torture you until you shed two layers of skin!”
The look in Charles’ eyes turned frigid. While he was still weak, his demeanor remained unyielding
After Jasper saw the trio, he dashed toward Cedrick and bowed politely. “Greetings, Mr. Jenson.”
He remained unmoved for two seconds and thought it was quite awkward not to present anything in his
hand. Thus, he speedily removed a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and offered one to Cedrick. “D
you for your hard work. Mr. Jenson. It’s not common that you personally apprehend a criminal. W you
like a puff?”
Instead of accepting the cigarette, Cedrick glanced at him and questioned, “What are you doing here
Don’t you have matters to tend to in the bureau? Are you that free?”
Fearfully, Jasper lowered his head further. “Mr. Craig asked me to come. He said he was worried
Charles wouldn’t obey you and asked me to monitor him, Mr. Jenson.”
Annoyed, Nico spat, “Step out of my way. Whoever I apprehend has nothing to do with you.”
“Yes, yes. You’re right, Nico. Since everything’s under control, there’s nothing for me to worry about. I’ll
take my leave now, Mr. Jenson.”
Cedrick eyed Jasper coldly without saying anything, seemingly agreeing that the latter was correct.
In response, Jasper extended his cigarette box to Nico.
However, Nico just scoffed arrogantly.
Great, he didn’t even bother acting nice to me. Jasper thought as he returned the box to his pocket.
As he walked past Charles, he halted his steps and informed, “Mr. Craig asked me to pass the
following message to you. If you don’t want to experience more pain, you’d better be honest about your
illegal crossing of the national border. If you hide anything and say things you shouldn’t, I’ll cleanse the
Newton family.”
Narrowing his eyes, Charles stared at Jasper and spotted the threatening look swirling in the latter’s
eyes.
“Get out of here. You don’t get to intimidate the felon I apprehend!” Incensed, Nico kicked Jasper’s butt.
“Scram! If you anger Mr. Jenson, your punishment will be more than just a kick!”
Jasper nearly leaped in response to the kick. Hissing, he rubbed his buttock and bolted away with his
men.
After he left, Nico’s subordinates promptly surrounded the interrogation room. Some had even changed
into camouflage uniforms and hid themselves several hundred meters away.
The heavy door to the interrogation room was opened.
As Charles swept his gaze past the horrible torture device on the wall, he sighed. “To think there would
come a day when this room is the safest place for me to stay in.”
Nico grinned. “True. After all, you’re a frequent guest here. The tools on the walls are your old friends. I
bet it’ll be quite a unique experience to sleep with them tonight.”
“Indeed it will.” Turning to Nico, Charles suggested, “How about I ask Mr. Jenson to let you stay here as
well so we can share this experience together?”
Nico’s countenance darkened. He wanted to refute Charles, but he secretly glimpsed at Cedrick first.
Then, he changed his tune. “Forget about it. I can’t enjoy something like this. Besides, I have someone
waiting for me at home. If I don’t go back, she’ll throw a fit.”
Both of them took a step back and avoided an argument.
Cedrick waved at the men outside.
A few soldiers expeditiously brought a few thick mattresses into the room. Additionally, they brought
fruits, snacks, high-quality cigarettes, a new phone, several sets of new clothes, and a fully stocked
first-aid kit for Charles.
Soon, the interrogation room was filled to the brim, looking quite comfortable.
Wow, Cedrick has taken my matter very seriously. Charles scanned his surrounding. “Thanks.”
No expression was spotted on Cedrick’s countenance. “Consider this a thank-you gift from Gwendolyn
and me. There’s no need to express your gratitude toward me.”
Charles lowered his head to hide the unusual look in his eyes. The gift I want isn’t these trinkets. Based
on what I know about his temper, hell only get warier if I tell him what I want directly. Although, there’s a
chance he will grant me my wish when the time comes.
After collecting himself, he stared at Cedrick again and stated, “It’s been days since I’ve returned to
Salinsburgh, Mr. Jenson. I’ve yet to meet yours and Gwen’s babies yet. Once this matter with Craig is
over, can I visit them in Harrick Villa? 1… would like to be their godfather.”
