Gwendolyn’s expression turned awkward when she heard the question.
Upon giving it some thought, she furrowed her brows and held her forehead to indicate having a
headache. “Hubby, I obviously remember our vows. You’ll always be in my heart, so that’s something
I’ll remember forever. However, my head is thumping. Could you please let me rest for a while?” she
responded casually.
Cedrick’s expression became increasingly grim, and his lowered gaze was filled with disappointment.
At that moment, he felt as though he had a boulder on his chest, making it hard for him to breathe. True
enough, she’s not Gwenny. Back then, we got married because I begged Grandpa for it. In order to get
Gwenny to forgive me and proceed with the marriage arrangement, I did everything I could to earn her
forgiveness. I could never ask her for a vow. Yet, this woman before me doesn’t seem to know that.
Although she looks like her and acts as elegantly as her, she’s not Gwenny.
Cedrick’s eyes were bloodshot, and his clenched fists were trembling.
He thought he had found his wife, but as it turned out, all he found was a mere imposter.
Indeed, he was in even more pain because he felt as though he had lost Gwendolyn all over again.
The woman noticed how gloomy he was and realized something was off. “What’s the matter with you,
Hubby? Are you sad because I said something wrong?”
“I’m fine. You’re having a headache, aren’t you? Well, my heart is broken.” Cedrick suppressed his
emotions and kept his gaze lowered.
The woman heaved a sigh of relief and grabbed Cedrick’s sleeve anxiously. “By the way, Hubby, where
are Benny and Zendy? I haven’t seen them in so many days. I want to see them.”
Cedrick hung his head low as his gaze turned ever so frosty. “There’s no hurry. Once you get
discharged in a few days’ time, I’ll bring you to them.”
“All right.” The woman flashed a smile. “I’ll listen to you, Hubby.”
Cedrick retracted his arm in disgust to stop the woman from grabbing his sleeve. After that, he lifted his
left wrist to glance at his watch. It’s late. I should head back to the laboratory to keep Benny and Zendy
company.
At that thought, he rose to his feet and uttered flatly, “It’s late. Rest well, Gwenny. I’ll be back early
tomorrow morning.”
The woman froze momentarily. “Are you not staying with me at the hospital?”
She looked mesmerizing when she had a sorrowful look on her face.
“Benny isn’t well, so he needs to be on an IV drip at night. If I’m not there with him, he’ll throw a
tantrum. Darling, you’ve always loved the kids the most prior to this. Why are you fighting them for
affection now?” He peered at her with his head hung low. His gaze was so solemn that no one could
tell what was on his mind.
The woman twitched the corners of her mouth slightly and replied, “Why would I do that? I’ve been
feeling guilty about Benny’s condition. All right, then. I’ll wait for you in the ward while you keep him
company.”
“Good girl. Have a good night’s rest, Gwenny. I’ll be off now.” He flashed a smile that never reached his
eyes.
As soon as he turned around, the smile on his face vanished.
“Hey, will you—” The woman wanted to ask for a kiss before he left, but he slammed the door shut
behind him and was long gone before she could finish her sentence.
The woman was puzzled. Why was he avoiding me? Didn’t everyone say Cedrick loved his wife
dearly? Why didn’t I feel his affection? Could it be that he had seen through my disguise?
At that thought, she rushed out of bed and scrutinized her gorgeous face in the mirror. I still look as
pretty as her! There’s nothing wrong. I must be overthinking.
After exiting the ward, Cedrick walked along the corridor while exuding an intense aura.
Swain had been summoned beforehand, and he was earnestly waiting at the elevator doors. “Boss,
what can I do for you?”
There was a chilly look in Cedrick’s gaze when he pursed his lips to suppress his emotions.
In the next second, he unbuttoned his suit hastily and took it off before throwing it into the trash can.
He was so grossed out that he felt as though he would throw up if he were to glance at the tainted
clothing.
“Station a few elite fighters outside Mrs. Jenson’s ward. Don’t let her leave the ward. Also, make sure
to check the medical staff’s credentials before letting them in. Not a single random person is allowed to
step foot in there,” Cedrick instructed.
Swain nodded obediently. “Got it.”
Cedrick then tidied his sleeves as he entered the elevator. “Drive me to the laboratory.”
He was having trouble staying calm due to his anger. Hence, he was worried that he would end up
driving recklessly.
“Okay.” Swain entered the elevator and pressed for the floor on which the parking lot was located.
Swain found Cedrick’s attitude toward Gwendolyn weird. Instead of asking the man about it, Swain
merely did as he was told.
When they were on their way to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cedrick received a call from Nico.
He scrolled through the information on his tablet while he was on the phone with Nico.
In an orderly manner, Nico reported the latest situation of several important cases in Salinsburgh.
As Cedrick was listening, an incomprehensible look formed in his darkened eyes.
The men talked about work matters on the phone for around ten minutes.
After they were done with that, silence ensued.
“Have you found Charles?” Cedrick eventually asked.
“No. He hadn’t been back at the Newton residence recently. I guess he was busy locating… Well,
helping us locate Gwendolyn.”
“Does he not know we’ve already found Gwendolyn?” Cedrick asked with a straight face.
“He does. Shortly after you left this afternoon, he called and told me he located Gwendolyn. However, I
told him you were already on the way to her. He hung up the phone immediately after that.”
Cedrick furrowed his brows and hung up the phone before he fell into deep thought. Charles cares
deeply about Gwenny. If he heard I was already on my way to save her, he would surely visit her as
soon as possible. Not only did he not come, but he had gone missing instead. He’s acting weird.
Sensing something was amiss, Cedrick picked up his phone and called Charles.
It took a minute for the call to be picked up.
In a deep voice, Charles asked reluctantly, “What’s up, Mr. Jenson?”
Cedrick remained silent for a couple of seconds before answering, “I found Gwendolyn.”
There was silence on Charles’ end for quite some time after he heard what Cedrick said. It was as if
the former needed to process the news.
Two minutes later, Charles uttered slowly, “In that case, congratulations, Mr. Jenson. You’ve finally
found your wife. Make sure not to lose her again.”
Cedrick knitted his brows. “Where are you?”
Instead of answering the question, Charles said, “I overreacted a few days ago when Gwendolyn went
missing. I’m sorry, Mr. Jenson. Now, I need to attend to some private matters. I won’t be visiting you
and your family for a while.”
With that, Charles hung up the phone.
After the phone call, Cedrick was even more weirded out. I know how much Charles loves Gwenny. In
fact, he might even love her as much as I do. Yet, he didn’t seem perturbed when I told him I had
located her. He didn’t even ask if she was hurt, injected with poison, or safe. He hung up the phone
right after he sent his regards. Something’s definitely not right here.
