Asher is here?

The atmosphere in the room seemed to grow cold almost instantly.

“Just tell him I’m asleep. Oh, and tell him to not come over anymore because I don’t want to see him,”

Gwendolyn replied without even giving it much thought.

“Understood.” Elven nodded and walked off immediately.

Realizing that Gwendolyn was in a bad mood, Cedrick pulled her into his arms and comforted her with

hugs and kisses.

He wasn’t even done kissing her when Elven knocked on the door once again.

“I’ve done as you asked, Ms. Harris, but Mr. Asher still refuses to leave. He is still standing out there in

the rain as we speak. I bet he’ll stand there all night if you don’t go and see him,” he said with a

helpless sigh.

Cedrick glanced at the heavy rain outside the window and asked, “Do you want to go see him? This

rain is freezing cold. He will surely come down with a cold tomorrow if he stays out there all night.”

Gwendolyn remained silent for quite a long time before replying, “If he thinks he will get me to take pity

on him and give in, then he’s wrong. If he wants to stay out there in the rain all night, so be it. This is

his choice, so I don’t want anyone bringing him an umbrella. He’ll leave once he can’t take it anymore.”

“Understood, Ms. Harris.”

Elven never disturbed them anymore that night.

Cedrick let out a helpless sigh when he saw the solemn look on Gwendolyn’s face and thought about

Asher standing outside in the freezing rain. He tried to hug her to sleep, but she brushed his arm off

with a cold look on her face.

What? Is she going to take her anger out on me? I didn’t do anything wrong, though!

“Gwenny, are you mad at me again?”

“Asher knew about the things Evelyn did to me, and yet, he did nothing and helped keep them a secret

from me. There’s no way I’d forgive him for that. You know how I feel about him, so why would you try

to take his side?” Gwendolyn replied coldly without even looking at him.

Cedrick lowered his gaze and cautiously poked at her shoulder as he explained, “It is precisely

because I know how you feel that I know you are simply angry at him for betraying you. However,

nothing will change the fact that he has been your brother for over twenty years. I know you feel bad

about distancing yourself from him too, and I don’t want to see you upset. What if he has truly

repented, Gwenny? Would you be willing to forgive him, then?”

Gwendolyn fell silent once again.

Boom!

The loud thunder outside snapped her out of her train of thought, and she lay down with her back

facing Cedrick as she said, “Evelyn pushed me into the ocean when I was fifteen. Had luck not been on

my side, I probably wouldn’t even be here today. That is something I can never bring myself to forget.

As of now, I still don’t feel that he has truly repented.”

Cedrick could tell from her choice of words that there was still hope for Asher to gain her forgiveness.

All Asher had to do was prove his sincerity in repenting and making it up to Gwendolyn.

He then lay down next to her, wrapped his arm around her waist, and whispered in her ear, “Then let us

wait and see what Asher will do next.”

Gwendolyn closed her eyes and went to sleep without saying another word.

Just like that, the two of them fell asleep in each other’s arms.

As pregnant women needed lots of sleep, Asher standing out in the heavy rain did not affect

Gwendolyn from sleeping soundly at all.

The rain had stopped by the time morning came.

Gwendolyn woke up when the sunlight came pouring into the room through the windows. She then

carefully got off the bed and walked barefoot on the cozy rug.

Upon pulling the curtains aside, she glanced at the front gate of Harrick Villa and saw Asher standing

there all by himself.

As though he was deliberately trying to punish himself, he was dressed in thin clothes that were

completely drenched by the heavy rain. His face was pale, and his lips had turned slightly purple as

well.

Growing up, Gwendolyn had always seen Asher as a respectable and powerful figure. This was the

first time she had seen him punish himself by standing in the rain.

She was snapped out of her train of thought when Cedrick wrapped his warm arms around her waist

and rested his chin on her shoulder.

“Are you feeling a little sorry for him, Gwenny?”

Gwendolyn kept quiet.

“Maybe he waited here all night in the heavy rain because he has something important to tell you. How

about you let him in and ask him what he wants to say? He hasn’t signed the inheritance agreement,

so you can’t cut ties with him completely just yet,” Cedrick continued.

Gwendolyn gave it some thought and figured he had a point.

As long as we haven’t resolved the inheritance issue, Asher will surely come to see me. I might as well

listen to what he has to say.

With that in mind, she grabbed her phone from the nightstand and decided to text Elven to let Asher in.

To her surprise, her phone started ringing the moment she picked it up.

A call from William? It must be about Evelyn, then.

Gwendolyn answered the phone immediately.

“It was raining heavily over here last night, Ms. Harris. Evelyn collapsed after kneeling in the rain all

night and started burning up with a high fever this morning. She’s currently unconscious, and her

wound has gotten infected as it did not receive treatment after being exposed to the rain. Should we

treat her?”

“Of course, we should. Hire a doctor and have her treated as soon as possible. Next time, make sure to

treat her wounds after hitting her. You may resume her punishment once she regains consciousness,”

Gwendolyn replied without any hesitation.

“Understood. By the way, she was reciting the Heagurn Sutra all night yesterday, but she injured her

throat before she could finish reciting it, and she can barely speak right now. D-Do we have her

continue reciting it?” William asked.

“She may not be able to speak, but she can still write. Have her continue by writing it down on her

knees. She can switch between reciting it and writing it as necessary,” Gwendolyn replied after a brief

pause.

“Understood, Ms. Harris.”

Gwendolyn’s expression went back to being solemn and icy-cold when she ended the call and shifted

her gaze back toward Asher.

“And here I thought he had come over because of something important. Turns out, he just came here

to beg me for mercy because Evelyn can’t take the punishment anymore!” she said with a mocking

grin.

Cedrick simply lowered his gaze and kept quiet.

Gwendolyn then summoned Elven and said, “Go tell Asher that I do not wish to see him ever again. I

will never forgive him, so he should just get lost! I don’t want him to bother me any further!”

She was so angry that she practically screamed the last two sentences.

Elven simply nodded and went downstairs to deliver her message to Asher.

In order to ensure that he got the point across, he even made sure to phrase it the exact same way

Gwendolyn said it.

“Please leave, Mr. Asher. Ms. Harris is still mad at you, so she won’t see you even if you stand here for

a week. If anything, it will only anger her even further,” Elven added.

Asher simply looked up at the window on the third floor without responding.

“Mr. Asher…”

Elven could only shake his head and let out a helpless sigh when he saw how stubborn Asher was.

He had just stepped away when Nico and Summer dropped by for a casual visit. They had just arrived

outside the villa when they saw Asher standing at the front gate.

As Asher kept his gaze fixated on the window on the third floor, he didn’t even notice Nico and Summer

making their way over.

Nico had told Summer what happened within the Harris family, so she was not surprised to see Asher

standing there.

“You’re Gwendolyn’s eldest brother, and yet, you helped that illegitimate daughter lie about her identity!

You’re the one who hurt her the most, you hear me? I wouldn’t forgive you either if I were her!” she

shouted, making no attempt to hide her anger whatsoever.

Nico didn’t even try to stop Summer from reprimanding Asher. He simply waited for her to finish before

asking with a serious look on his face, “Mr. Asher, would you like to know how you can gain

Gwendolyn’s forgiveness?”
