She could not let someone else take the blame for her!
Michelle listened to their discussions without paying them any attention. The reason she had asked
Jonathan to come, besides dealing with that arrogant woman earlier, was to let these people know who
was behind her.
They were always asking her to work
Was she here just to work?
Compared to the bustling discussions outside, the meeting room seemed much quieter.
Jonathan sat awkwardly in front of Cynthia, feeling lost, like a child who had done something wrong.
“Cyn… things aren’t what you think. Michelle’s mom was worried that Michelle couldn’t find a job, so
suggested she try at the Yates Group. There was absolutely no intention of using connections,”
Jonathan explained, not wanting her to misunderstand too much
“Doing three sets of proposals in two months, one still unfinished, two deemed unsatisfactory, with a
monthly salary of 3,000 USD, and you call that not using connections?”
Jonathan fidgeted with his fingers, feeling very uneasy. He could not exactly tell Cynthia that he and
Michelle’s mother, Mandy Quinn, were together, and he was sort of Michelle’s stepfather. Hence, it was
only natural for him to arrange some work for Michelle since he had the capability.
Nonetheless, he knew that if he said that, he might never have a relationship with Cynthia again.
Cynthia… had always resented him.
“Cyn…” Jonathan did not know what to do anymore.
“She’s fired,”
Cynthia did not give any room for negotiation.
Jonathan felt extremely aggrieved but still tried to reason with her. “The Yates Group is a big company
that can afford to support her.”
“The Yates Group has always been about appointing and promoting based on merit. Are you willing to
break the rules for your new daughter?” Cynthia was concerned and angry about this.
“Nor
New daughter?! He only had two precious daughters!
“If Michelle truly had the ability, I wouldn’t say anything. But she lacks diligence, seriousness, and even
resorts to using her status as a threat. The Yates Group won’t keep such a person,” Cynthia spoke
sincerely.
“Huh?” Jonathan looked bewildered. Cynthia’s description of Michelle was completely different from
what he knew.
Cynthia raised an eyebrow, wondering what was going on.
Jonathan replied, “From what I know, although Michelle may not be as smart as you, she’s always
been diligent and hardworking, very honest and down–to–earth.”
He realized that Cynthia did not like hearing about it and quickly got to the point, I saw her researching
and working on documents when I visited…”

Cynthia closed the contract in her hand.
It seemed like she had just gotten rid of Jayleen, and now she had Michelle.
“I didn’t expect her to pretend to be obedient in front of me,” Jonathan continued, carrying a hint of
seriousness.
Cynthia froze, then blurted out a sentence without much thought or rationality. “You believed in what I
said?”
Perhaps she had faced too much distrust from Joshua, or maybe it was the constant
misunderstandings she had experienced recently. When she heard those words from Jonathan, her
heart skipped a beat.
“You’re my daughter. Who else should I believe if not you? I’m your father. Don’t you think I should
know your character best?” Jonathan made his point very clear,
Cynthia always spoke her mind and never accused anyone wrongly.
He understood her.
“Don’t worry. I talk to Mandy about this matter.” Jonathan understood Cynthia’s stance and took the
initiative for the sake of their father daughter relationship. “In a couple of days. I’ll transfer Michelle
somewhere else and let her undergo training to learn some skills.”
