Did the Captain realize what he was doing?
“Captain.”
“What’s wrong?” Matthew asked, gently touching her hair as he continued to blow–dry it. However, he
felt a twinge of uncertainty. After all, this was his first time doing something like this. Was he
unintentionally pulling her hair, or was the dryer’s heat too much?
Cynthia took the hairdryer from him and turned it off, returning the room to its peaceful silence.
“I can handle drying my own hair. You should get some rest. You’ve had a long day,” she said, still
somewhat uncomfortable with the situation.
“Alright. Call me if you need anything,” Matthew replied, not insisting any further.
“Alright,” Cynthia responded.
Matthew gave Cynthia another look before he finally stood up to leave. As he stepped out the door and
into his own home, Cynthia sent him off with a sincere, “Thank you.”
Once they both retreated to their respective homes, Cynthia closed her door and started blow–drying
her hair on her own. It always seemed like hair drying was an intimate act that should be shared only
between close ones, like parents, siblings, or perhaps lovers. Yet Captain had just done it for her, a
gesture that left her with a strange, indescribable feeling. After her hair was dried, Cynthia prepared for
bed.
Before turning in, she took a glance at her phone to check if there were any messages or missed calls.
She noticed the message from Moe on WhatsApp.
Ulterior motives? Who?
She sent back a simple message, [Who?1
Moe was still waiting for Cynthia’s reply at home. Ever since Matthew came on board, he was no longer
required to chauffeur the boss. Matthew now handled most of the tasks he used to accompany her for.
This change stirred up a sense of crisis in him.
When he saw Cynthia’s response, he typed out, [Matthew.] However, remembering Cynthia’s fondness
for Matthew, he hesitated before hitting send. What if she also harbored feelings for Matthew? Would
this not just help Matthew to express his feelings sooner?
Mor found himself stuck in a conundrum, unsure whether to send the message. After waiting for a while
with no response from Moe, Cynthia figured he had already fallen asleep. She set her phone on the
bedside table and drifted off into dreamland
In the end, Moe did not send the message. He thought it would be better to tell her differently when she
asked about it at the office the next day. However, he had not expected that Cynthia and Matthew
would not show up at the office the following day.
Early the next morning, after informing Moe that she would not be coming into the office, Cynthia rang
Sean. She told him about her plans to visit the base Sean was initially reluctant. He had promised
joshua that he would not involve Cynthia in his affairs anymore. Allowing Cynthia to visit would mean
breaking that promise. Knowing Joshua, he might have something up
his sleeve.
However, he could not afford to offend Cynthia either, given her position. Sean felt a headache coming
on.
After much deliberation, he offered Cynthia an alternative, “How about this? I can show you all the data
related to Joshua’s health, but you can’t see him in person.”
“I won’t go. Matthew will,” Cynthia replied, not wanting to put him in a difficult position.
Sean was left dumbfounded. “Matthew?” Surely, it could not be the Matthew he knew.
