Larissa followed Kevan reluctantly into the kitchen. He closed the door yet again.
“What happened to you just now?” He had his back to the door, blocking her escape.
“What do you mean, just now? What’s wrong with me?” Larissa was stunned by his question.
“During dinner just now. you were lost in thought with a sad expression.” Kevan reminded her.
Larissa realized what he was referring to and felt flustered. She didn’t want to tell him the truth, so she
used Wendy as a shield. To make it seem more believable, she said with a pout.
“I’m sad because Wendy won’t bring her friend back to meet me. Even though we are best friends and I
tell her everything I didn’t expect her to hide this from me.”
Kevan didn’t seem the least bit suspicious. The lensed lines on his face softened, and he ruffled
Larissa’s hair affectionately. “Maybe she
felt that it wasn’t the right time to introduce him to her friends. Or
He paused abruptly with a cold look in his eyes. “That man has something to hide. That’s why he
doesn’t want to meet you.”
Suddenly, Larissa grabbed Kevan’s wrist and tugged on his arm.
“Hey, are you saying that because you know who he is?” She leaned in, almost pressing against
Kevan’s chest.
Although Kevan’s inner voice was urging him to hold her tightly in his embrace, her question was hard
for him to answer,
I
Kevan pushed her away with a stem expression. “Didn’t already tell you? I don’t know him.
“That’s impossible! You definitely know who that person is Otherwise, why would you go and pick him
up? Mr. Rogers personally picking this man up at the airport? That person’s identity must be
extraordinary! Larissa was becoming more cominced.
“I don’t know him. The reason I said I would pick him up was to help Wendy out. Don’t overthink it”
Kevan insisted.
“You’re not the kind of person who helps Just anyone!”
Larissa had spent enough time with Kevan to know that. In addition, she had gathered as much
information from Dylan. She had a fair understanding of Kevan’s personality.
As Dylan would put it, Kevan was a shrewd man. He only made friends when it benefited him.
He would only help others with the expectation of something in return. Of course, these principles did
not apply to Kevan’s family and close friends,
Larissa could count the number of people in his inner circle on one hand, However, Wendy wasn’t part
of his inner circle.
“Wendy’s friendship does not benefit you in any way.” Larissa stared at him suspiciously. Hearing her
words, he chuckled.
“You’re wrong. Being in Wendy’s good books carles substantial benelis,” Kevan chirped with a sincere
smile.
“Huh?” Larissa was caught off guard. Before she could clarity what benefits Wendy could bring him, he
evicted her from the kitchen. “Go and bother those two. Don’t disturb me while I’m doing the dishes.”
Larissa was perplexed. “Wasn’t it you who dragged me here in the first place?‘ she shouted anally from
the other side of the door.
After finishing the dishes, Kevan came out to the living room with a plate of cut fruits.
“Mr. Rogers, can’t you stay here forever?” Wendy looked at Kevan longingly, who only smiled without a
word.
He took some tissue and dried his hands. Picking up his coat from the back of the solla, he bid farewell.
“It’s getting late. I’m heading back to the hotel,”
Hearing this, Larissa put down the fork in her hand and stood up immediately. With her mouth full of
strawberries, she mumbled. Til see you off.”
