Larissa made a call to Bethany’s mother. Regardless of the outcome, she had to let Bethany’s mother
know of her dissatisfaction.
The phone rang for a long time before someone finally answered.
“Hello?” The voice on the other end was impatient.
It was a high–pitched female voice that sounded somewhat familiar
At that moment, Larissa couldn’t seem to pinpoint where she had heard this voice before.
“Hello, is this Bethany’s mother?” she asked politely.
Before she could get a response, the person on the other end hung up abruptly.
When Larissa tried calling again, she couldn’t get through. It was likely that Bethany’s mother had
blocked her number.
Larissa had met many unreasonable people in her line of work. Due to the nature of her profession,
she had trained herself to be calm and collected under most circumstances.
It was rare that someone could work her up so badly that she was tempted to smash her phone
into bits
Larissa tucked Aster into bed and stayed up all night to complete most of her work for the next
day.
The next morning, she raced through her tasks and took half a day off from work.
Larissa left the hotel early and managed to arrive at the kindergarten in time for the students to
go home.
After the children from toddler and junior classes had left, the students from the senior class
lined up to go home.
The parents and guardians walked inside in an orderly manner to pick the children up.
Although the kindergarten appeared crowded due to the large number of people, it wasn’t chaotic.
Suddenly, someone grabbed Larissa’s arm from behind. “Lari?”
The familiar voice made Larissa stop in her tracks.
Her body stiffened instantly as her racing heartbeat seemed to thump louder and louder.
It grew so loud that the sound reverberated in her ears like a drumbeat, making her momentarily
deaf to other sounds.
Her mind went blank as she turned around to look at the woman behind her.
She hadn’t aged much in the past five years. Her face was as flawless as Larissa had remembered
previously, probably due to her anti–aging skin routine.
Larissa almost called her “Mom,” but she caught herself in time and greeted Violet politely.
Ma’am.”
Tears of sorrow welled up in Violet’s eyes as she tried to regain her composure.
“Lari!” she choked up, gripping Larissa’s arm tighter.
Their strange behavior caught the attention of other parents nearby, who turned to stare at them
curiously
The inquisitiveapped Larissa back to reality.
gazes
“Ma’am, can we talk later? I still have to pick up my son.”
She gently released her arm from Violet’s grip.
Violet’s eyes grew wide, and her lips trembled as she spoke, “Y–You have a child?”
The second she asked the question, she couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it.
Violet smacked her forehead and said, her tone filled with a sense of absurdity, “What am I even
saying? You should be married and have children by now. That’s a relief!”
Larissa did not try to correct her assumptions.
If Violet were to know that she still hadn’t gotten married, it would probably weigh on her
conscience.
They walked up the stairs together and stopped at the entrance of the same classroom.
Larissa and Violet exchanged glances and saw the same surprise in each other’s eyes.
However, Violet seemed a little embarrassed and awkward at the unexpected coincidence.
Larissa let Violet go into the classroom first.
As soon as the homeroom teacher saw Violet, she turned and called to the back of the classroom,
Bethany, your grandma is here!”
Larissa’s heart skipped a beat.
If Violet was Bethany’s grandmother, then Bethany must be Kevan and Ruby’s daughter!
No wonder she was so spoiled!
