Larissa did not need to think to know who Wendy was talking about.
“Are you an ostrich?” Larissa dug out Wendy’s phone from between the couch cushions and gave it to
Wendy. “The more you don’t
answer, the more he’ll think crazy things.”
Wendy pouted as she got up reluctantly. She answered the video call under Larissa’s forceful gaze.
To prevent Larissa from seeing Edmund’s face. Wendy turned around and forced a normal smile to
appear on her face.
Wendy was like Larissa, having worked in the customer service industry for many years. She was good
at laking her emotions.
Edmund did not notice anything as he asked Wendy. “Have you eaten?”
“Nope.” Wendy brushed her hair over from behind her ear to cover her lace, which was free of makeup.
“I’m waiting for my chicken soup to
be ready.”
“You still have chicken soup? How nice!” Edmund’s voice was filled with admiration.
Wendy asked him, “What about you? Have you eaten?”
“I can’t eat without you.” Edmund’s voice was the type that lovestruck little girls would like–whiny but
cute. But to Larissa, whose “girly heart” had died a long time ago, such a thing was only disgusting and
gross to her “middle–aged woman” ears.
Larissa cringed, and goosebumps broke out on her skin.
Wendy’s face turned red. Knowing Larissa was nearby, she pretended to scold Edmund. “Don’t say
gross stuff like that! Go eat!”
Larissa shuddered and hugged herself, rubbing her arms.
Wendy moved her phone away and rolled her eyes at Larissa at an angle where Edmund could not
see. She mouthed to Larissa, “Piss off!”
Larissa huffed and turned around coldly. Once she was certain Wendy could not see her face, Larissa
allowed her worry to show on her
lace.
Wendy and Edmund flirted for a long while until Larissa called for her to go eat. Only then did Wendy
put her phone down reluctantly.
Larissa was laying out the forks and spoons as she mocked Wendy. “Huh, and I wonder who the hell it
was who said that she didn’t want to answer the call,”
Wendy sat down sheepishly and gave herself a full bowl of chicken soup.
“I’m on leave tomorrow, and I’m going to meet up with him.” Wendy stirred the hot soup as she
continued in a low voice. “I’m planning on telling him.”
Larissa’s hand jolted, and a good deal of the soup sprayed onto the table. “Sure.” She forced herself to
calmly clean the soup stains as she said, “Remember to let me know once you guys have gotten to a
conclusion.”
“Yeah,” Wendy promised.
After Wendy left, Larissa video–called Kevan. The anxiety she was feeling did not allow her to ask if
Kevan was free this time. Thankfully, Kevan answered fairly quickly. He did not make her wall for a lew
hours like usual.
It was still daytime in Caldor.
Kevan was sitting in his office, and Dylan linally showed himself after a very long time. “Hey, Larissa,
long time no see.” He waved at Larissa through the screen before Kevan shoved him out of the
camera’s range.
“Are you busy?” Larissa asked Kevan. She was a little red–laced because she might have disturbed
him while at work. “If you are, I will call
you again later.”
“No. Is there something going on?” Kevan stared at the camera, so it was like he was staring at
Larissa.

volce grew quieter. “She’s pregnant.”
Kevan’s face did not change, but his pupils shrunk sharply. He frowned and asked. “Edmund’s kid?”
Larissa sighed and replied, “Yeah.”
