Kevan’s heart thumped violently in his chest.
He took a step forward and embraced her. Burying his face in her shoulder, he said in a hoarse and
muffled voice, “Lari.”
Kevan had so many things he wanted to say to her, but he was afraid that expressing his true emotions
would scare her away.
In the end, he half–threatened her jokingly. “You can never escape from me for the rest of your life.”
Larissa hadn’t even considered running away. She hugged him hack tightly.
Before Larissa could tease him about it she caught sight of Kevan’s parents and Aster out of the comer
of her eye.
They were watching them eagerly through the window with expressions of interest on their faces.
Startled, Larissa a pushed Kevan away. In her haste, she bumped into his arm.
Kevan look a sharp breath and a look of pain flashed across his face.
Larissa didn’t have time to reprimand the three of them for spying. She rushed to support Kevan.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, scanning his arm for any signs of injury.
Pulling her aside, Kevan brought her to the other side of the house. A solid wall blocked them from
prying eyes.
He raised his left arm and said with an aggrieved expression, “When I came over in the morning, I ran
into Aunt Maria causing trouble here. I got out of the car to stop her, but she slashed me in the arm with
a knife.”
Her heart racing, Larissa grabbed Kevan’s hand and bombarded him with questions, “Where did she
hurt you? Is it serious? Have you treated the wound? Do you feel any pain? Did you call the police?”
Kevan’s gray sweatshirt covered the wound on his arm. He pointed vaguely, indicating a rough area on
his arm.
“It’s not serious. I took care of it right away, and it doesn’t hurt it I don’t touch it. Aunt Maria should be in
the detention center by now. Don’t worry, I won’t let myself get hurt for no reason.” Kevan answered.
“Let’s go inside. I want to take a look at your injury.” Larissa was not in a mood for a walk anymore.
Kevan always downplayed serious matters. Larissa couldn’t completely trust him when he glossed over
things like that.
Kevan didn’t object and agreed, “Okay.”
He intentionally let Maria cut him with a knife for two reasons. The first was to have sufficient evidence
to send Maria to prison. The other reason was so he could use his injury to gain some sympathy from
Larissa.
In his original plan, Kevan intended for Larissa to discover his injury before going to bed and comfort
him. Despite the timing being
brought forward, the results would be the same anyway.
When they entered the house, the spying trio were all seated on the sola.
Anthony was concentrating on drinking his tea, while Violet held a plate of fruit and fed Aster. On the
other hand, Aster seemed to be
focused on watching cartoons.
They acted as if nothing had happened just now.
Kevan couldn’t be bothered to expose them. He spoke nonchalantly, “Larissa and I will be going to
work early tomorrow morning. We will
be going upstairs to bed now.”
Aster turned to him and asked, “What about me?”
Violet hugged him in her arms and laughed merrily. “Aster, you can stay up tonight and keep us
company! I will tuck you into bed later. alright?”
Aster hesitated for a few seconds and nodded. “Okay.”
Larissa stayed the night at Rogers‘ villa. Naturally, she and Keyan shared a room.
1/2
belongings. It looked no different from a regular room for guests.
Larissa locked the door. Turning around, she told Kevan immediately. “Take off your clothes!”
