Kevan blocked Ron’s number and was finally able to enjoy some peace and quiet for the afternoon.
However, in the evening. Violet called. bombarding him with a barrage of questions. “Tell me the truth,
Has Bethany been kidnapped?”
Her tone was urgent, tinged with panic. Each word quivered as it left her lips. There was no need for
Kevan to speculate: Cody must have leaked the news to her.
“Yes,” he admitted.
“When did it happen?” Her trembling intensified.
“The day before yesterday,” he answered.
He reached out to his mother the same night when he received the kidnapper’s call. Bethany had been
staying with Violet all along, and it was only natural for Violet to be concerned when the nanny couldn’t
find Bethany when she went and picked Bethany up.
Instead of telling Violet the truth, Kevan concocted an outrageous lle, saying, “I brought Bethany over
to stay with me for a few days.”
Surprisingly, not only did she not suspect anything, but she was also very delighted. Her biggest wish
was for Kevan and Bethany to deepen their bond and live harmoniously.
“Come back immediately and explain everything to me!” Violet’s tone was cold, limm, and ruthless.
Kevan dared not delay a moment longer and immediately made his way back to his parent’s home.
Both his parents were sitting in the living room, their faces etched with worry, and the atmosphere was
stilling. As soon as Kevan entered. Violet sprang to her feet.
Anthony remained somewhat calmer, only shitting his body slightly. He stared straight at Kevan and
asked in a deep voice, “What happened exactly?”
Kevan removed his coat, handed it to a nearby servant, and whispered a “thank you“. He proceeded to
walk to the center of the living room and settled onto the adjacent single sola.
“Bethany has been kidnapped. They are demanding a ransom of one billion dollars,” he spoke calmly
and with composure.
Violet’s eyes widened in disbelief upon hearing that, “One billion?”
Anthony angrily exclaimed, “That’s an outrageous sum!”
Kevan smirked and declared. “But I have no intention of paying.”
“What?” His mother’s eyes grew even wider. She asked incredulously, “Are you just going to stand
there and watch Bethany die? She’s still your daughter even if you don’t have affection for her! How
can you be so heartless?” Her eyes gradually filled with anger and disappointment.
Anthony chimed in, “While a billion is a bit too much, we should still be able to come up
Kevan remained calm and composed while facing their accusations and dissatisfaction. “She is not my
daughter,” he announced.
He had carefully considered this on his way here. He decided that he had to reveal the truth to them so
that they would keep out of the situation and not jeopardize his plan.
Violet emotionally denied it exclaiming. “That’s impossible! I had a paternity test done for you both. The
report clearly stated that you are her biological father!”
She had arranged for a paternity test to be conducted on the day Bethany was born. Otherwise, she
wouldn’t have brought Bethany back home.
“I had it done too.” Kevan retrieved an electronic report from his phone. “In fact, I even had the test
done at two different institutions, and the results were the same.”
Indeed, there was a biological relationship between him and Bethany, but it hadn’t reached the level of
a father–daughter relationship.
Violet stared at the final result on the report, her mouth agape, unable to find words. His father put on
his glasses, took Kevan’s phone, and read the report carefully from start to finish.
“Yes.” Kevan replied without hesitation. “Both of these institutions are highly reputable, and every step
was conducted under my supervision. There was no room for manipulation.”
