“Kevan! Come and take a seat!” Cody smiled and beckoned to him.
Kevan complied, calling out, “Cody.”
“Kevan …” Ruby also greeted him, her voice soft and gentle. With a smile, she continued, “You’re
back?” Her smile carried a hint of flattery.
Kevan did not sit beside Cody. Instead, he led Larissa to take a seat on the other side of Roland.
Finally, Cody turned his attention to Larissa and inquired, “And who might this be?”
Kevan replied. “This is my wife, Larissa Seymour.”
Larissa smiled at Cody and nodded. At the same time, she caught a glimpse of Ruby’s face, which had
turned pale.
Cody acted surprised and questioned, “When did you get married? Why didn’t you tell us about it?”
He wore an unhappy expression and continued, “Do you consider us as outsiders?”
Kevan simply replied, “We had just gotten married. We have the marriage certificates but haven’t had
the wedding ceremony yet.”
Roland sneered and added, “I only found out not long ago too.”
After hearing that, Cody relented and said, “Make sure to inform us when the wedding ceremony is
held!”
“Of course.” Kevan smiled.
Then, Roland asked, “You guys are done with the pie?”
“No. We heard that my cousins had arrived, so we came out to say hello. Otherwise, Edmund might
accuse us of having bad manners.”
Edmund laughed and responded, “I’m not that petty.”
Kevan didn’t react.
“Since you’ve greeted them, you can go ahead and continue making the pie,” Roland dismissed them.
Larissa got up, and Ruby followed suit. The latter suggested, “Let me help too.”
Larissa looked at Kevan, silently signaling her refusal. However, Kevan remained still and merely
responded, “Okay.”
At that moment, Larissa really wanted to leave. Still, she endured it and smiled at Ruby, saying, “Thank
you, but it’s fine.”
After that, she forcefully pulled Kevan up from his chair and added, “Kevan and I can deal with it.”
But Kevan pushed her hand away and sat back. “Go with Ruby. I want to chat with Cody and Edmund
for a while.”
Larissa glared at him and went to the kitchen with Ruby. Since Kevan had chopped up the ingredients,
she just had to mix and season
them.
‘Do you know how to make pastry?” Larissa asked Ruby.
Ruby nodded and took over Larissa’s previous task. Then, they got on with their work and did not
disturb each other. However, Ruby broke
the silence after a while and asked, “How did you and Kevan meet?”
The way she said Kevan’s name was similar to how Kevan called her, filled with a sense of intimacy
that made Larissa envious.
‘During work, Larissa replied coldly.
“How long have you known each other?” Ruby continued to ask.
“Not very long… Larissa thought about it carefully. “It hasn’t been half a year.”
“Not even half a year?” Ruby seemed to become proud.
“I’ve known Kevan for more than seven years.”
Larissa felt a strong urge to roll her eyes and sarcastically ask, “So?” However, her manners didn’t
allow her to do such a thing. Instead, she said, “You two must be good friends.”
She deliberately emphasized the word friend.” As expected, the smile on Ruby’s face froze.
