Adrian clung to his mother’s hand tightly. “No! Mommy, I want to be with you!”
Ellinor hadn’t seen her son for several days, and despite her anger at his reckless wandering alone, her
heart was still filled with concern for him. She gently cupped his small face, asking softly, “Have you
had lunch?”
Adrian nodded. “Yes, I have.”
Ellinor paused for a moment before asking, “And… him?”
Adrian tilted his head. “Mommy, are you asking.if, handsome Dad had his meal?”
Ellinor grunted, feeling slightly annoyed.
“Handsome Dad had his meal too. We ate together when Sophia was still here.”
After Ellinor responded with an uninterested hum, she scanned the room.
“Mommy, let’s go! Let’s see how handsome Dad’s rehabilitation is going.” Adrian took Ellinor’s hand
and headed towards the bedroom.
Ellinor followed her son for a few steps, raising an eyebrow in disdain. She had just come out of that
room.
When Adrian pushed the door open, he saw a tall figure on the balcony, struggling to practice walking
and sweating profusely.
His leg seemed to have severe muscle atrophy. The likelihood of him being able to stand and walk on
his own again seemed low.
But he seemed determined to not give up.
Adrian felt sorry for the man, loudly asking, “Handsome Dad! Do you want some water? I can get it for
you!”
Marcus looked at them with his lips pressed tight with exertion. “No, I’m not thirsty.”
Ellinor tipped her chin. “Go, get your handsome Dad a bottle of water.”
“Oh!” Adrian happily ran off when his mother gave the order.
After watching her son’s adorable figure walk away, Ellinor turned to Marcus, who was still practicing
with all his might. She walked over slowly. “Rehabilitation is a gradual process. You can’t rush it.”
Marcus glanced at her and didn’t respond, continuing his practice.
Ellinor didn’t engage further, leaning against the balcony rail and watching him until Adrian came
running with a bottle of water.
“Handsome Dad, here’s your water!” Adrian held the bottle high and handed it to him.
Marcus looked at his son’s adorable face. He looked eager to help. But he needed both hands to
support his body; if he let go of one, he wouldn’t be able to hold himself up.
As Marcus hesitated, Ellinor suddenly walked over, taking the bottle from Adrian, unscrewing the cap,
and holding it to Marcus’ lips.
Marcus paused, looking at her in surprise.
Ellinor looked annoyed. “Not drinking? How long do you expect me to hold this for you?”
Marcus frowned slightly. Seeming embarrassed, he opened his mouth, allowing her to feed him a few
sips.
Ellinor took back the bottle, not rushing to screw the cap back on. She took a sip herself before
leisurely screwing the cap back on.
Marcus watched her natural actions as his eyes narrowed, but in the end, he said nothing and
continued to maximize his practice time.
Ellinor moved Adrian to a wicker chair on the side, making him sit quietly and watch, occasionally
checking her phone but not disturbing Marcus.
Half an hour later, Marcus was drenched in sweat but seemed to be standing more steadily than
before.
Feeling that it was time, he wanted to return to his wheelchair and sit down for a bit.
