Marcus’ eyes darted to Thaddeus’s face, swiftly changing the subject. “What? You didn’t get a chance
to meet our savior?”
Sophia pulled out a chair and sat down as her gaze flickered over to Lea, who was heartily enjoying her
meal, her voice laced with a hint of annoyance. “Meet who? There was no one in that upstairs booth.
Whoever it was had their meal and left ages ago. I think Lea’s just bored and pulling our legs.”
Lea blinked, a frown appearing on her face as she glared at the sarcastic Sophia. Then her eyes
flickered over to Marcus.
Marcus was outwardly calm, but inwardly he was impressed. No wonder Ellinor sat so confidently. She
was already prepared, having cleared out the upstairs private room beforehand.
Following Sophia’s suggestive comment, Thaddeus really did think Lea was just messing with them. He
grunted unhappily and sternly. “Lea, when did you learn to play pranks?”
Lea opened her mouth to retort, but after seeing the meaningful look in Marcus’ eyes, she changed her
mind. “Well, you always favor Sophia, so I thought I’d play a prank on you to vent my frustration. Is that
not allowed?”
Thaddeus’ eyebrows furrowed. “So you did it on purpose?”
Lea shrugged nonchalantly. “Humph! You never believe me anyway. You only believe Sophia. You don’t
care whether I’m telling the truth or not, so what does it matter?”
Before Thaddeus could respond, Bertha, who had just returned, overheard the entire conversation and
was furious. “Lea, stand up this instant!”
At the sound of her mother’s angry voice, Lea nervously stood up and turned around. “Mom…”
Bertha was truly disappointed in her daughter’s deceitful behavior and knew she had to teach her a
lesson. But considering Lea’s growing pride, she decided not to scold her in front of everyone and
instead gave her a loud command. “You! Come with me to the restroom!”
Now that her mother was truly angry, Lea didn’t have the guts to disobey and obediently followed her
mother to the restroom.
Marcus watched as Bertha walked towards the restroom with a hint of worry flickering in his eyes..
Ellinor hadn’t yet come out of the restroom with the children.
Sophia noticed Marcus’ concerned expression and said while serving him some food, “Marcus, don’t
worry about Lea. Bertha doesn’t really have a temper. She won’t be too harsh on Lea. The kid needs a
good lesson; look how upset she’s made my dad; he couldn’t even enjoy his meal.”
Marcus gave Sophia a glance, nodded slightly, and took a sip from his water glass.
Ellinor had just used that glass, and as he drank, his lips overlaid the invisible lipstick mark she had left.
At this moment, outside the restaurant in a stretch limousine, everyone inside was staring in shock at
the restaurant window from their vantage point in the car.
From their angle, they had a perfect view of the man in the wheelchair inside the restaurant.
The first to lose control was Veronica, who was almost in tears as she made to open the door and rush
inside. “My brother! That’s my brother! He’s alive!!!”
Chase and Byran both grabbed her.
“Calm down!”
“Keep your cool.”
They had just received an urgent message from Ellinor, asking them to quickly pay the bill and leave
from the back of the restaurant.
Ellinor hadn’t given them any specifics in her message. She just told them to get out quickly and not to
use the main entrance.
