Megan had always known that Ivy’s mom wasn’t exactly the nurturing type. Back in college, Megan had
often stood up for Ivy, though it had seemed to do little good.
“It’s okay, I’ve actually moved out of my parent’s place now. I’m a bit embarrassed to ask, but… I was
hoping you could help me out with something.”
Ivy felt a genuine sense of embarrassment. She rarely reached out unless she needed something, and
now here she was, inviting Megan for a meal because she needed a favor. She acknowledged the
awkwardness of the situation, but her previous lack of freedom in the Dunhill family left her with little
choice.
Megan linked arms with her, walking confidently into the restaurant. “There is no need to feel awkward!
If there’s anything I can assist with, I’m here to help!”
Once seated, Ivy slid the menu toward her friend. “Pick whatever you fancy, Megan. It’s on me today.”
Megan didn’t hold back and chose a couple of her favorite dishes.
“So, spill it, Ivy. What’s this big favor you need?”
Ivy bit her lip, hesitating before finally speaking up. “Well, it’s just… I’m looking for a job. I’m kind of in a
bind for cash right now, and I really need to get a job.”
“Job hunting, huh?” Megan furrowed her brows in thought, then something clicked. “Actually, I might be
able to help! The ad agency that works with our office is hiring. With your credentials, you’d be a shoo-
in!”
Ivy’s eyes sparkled with hope. “Really? You think I could get it?”
“Of course! You’re super talented, Ivy. Have a little faith in yourself!” Megan whipped out her phone and
sent Ivy a job listing. “There, I’ve sent you the details. Send your resume over, and I’ll put in a good
word. If they like what they see, they’ll definitely give you a call!”
Ivy scanned the job post. She met all the requirements, and there was no mandatory work experience
needed. It sounded promising! “Megan, you’re a lifesaver. Once I land a job, I owe you a feast, a real
fancy one!”
“You’re on! Hold to that promise, Ivy. I’m sure you’ll get the job and shine. Just don’t forget about me
when you make it big!”
“How could !!” Ivy laughed.
Chatting and laughing, they finished their meal, walked together to the subway station, and then parted
ways, each heading home. Back at her place, Ivy fired up her computer and sent off her resume to the
email address Megan had provided.
Despite fitting the bill, Ivy was anxious, fearing she might not even get an interview at such a
prestigious company if there were better candidates.
She crossed her fingers and hoped for the best, determined to work hard if given the chance.
Only by securing a job could she begin to pay off the hefty debt she owed and have some financial
security after leaving the Howard family.
Restless and without a response, Ivy spent a sleepless night. Balfour, her partner, hadn’t come home,
but she merely muttered a complaint to herself and tried not to care too much. If he kept this up, he’d
be the one in hot water with the grandparents, not her.
The next day, with low expectations, Ivy logged onto her computer and to her surprise, there it was – a
reply from the company!
