Byran’s voice snapped Ida out of her daze, and, together, they boarded the elevator.

Inside the elevator, Ida whipped out her smartphone and began typing a message to her underlings,

instructing them to investigate why Thaddeus’ wife and daughter were at the hospital.

Byran watched as Ida fiddled with her phone with a tinge of annoyance in his eyes, but he didn’t disturb

her, knowing full well that she was a workaholic.

DING!

The elevator doors opened on the ground floor, and Byran pushed his father out. Ida was about to

follow when a group of men in black suits dragged Arnold into the elevator.

Ida narrowed her eyes, sensing that something was off.

Why was the boss’ mediocre stepfather here? And it seemed like he was being forced to come.

What on earth was going on?

Marlinie was transferred from the luxury ward to a regular room on the lower floor.

She had requested this change herself, as there were no luxury wards located far enough from

McNeil’s room. So she opted for a regular room, just to keep her distance from that

man.

After the nurse had settled Marlinie in her new room and given her some instructions, she left.

Bertha and Lea entered the room next, closing the door behind them before approaching Marlinie’s

bedside.

Marlinie was deep in thought. Her face was growing paler every minute.

Bertha knew why and gently squeezed Marlinie’s hand. “You saw McNeil, didn’t you? It’s kind of ironic.

You moved rooms to get away from him, and yet you ran into him in the hallway.”

A sarcastic smile spread across Marlinie’s face. “What fate? It’s more like a curse!”

Bertha sighed. She was at a loss for words.

Marlinie continued. “Bertha, my injuries aren’t serious. After I finish this IV, help me get discharged,

okay?”

Bertha couldn’t believe her ears. “You lost so much blood, and you’re saying it’s not serious?! The

nurse just told us to be extra careful to avoid an infection!”

Marlinie insisted. “I’ll be careful once I’m home. I promise.”

Bertha frowned at her. “Marlinie, I know you want to leave because you don’t want to see him. But

we’ve already moved to a regular room. We’re not even on the same floor anymore. You won’t run into

him again. Running into him in the hallway was just a coincidence; it won’t happen again.”

Marlinie remained silent.

She had indeed seen her ex-husband McNeil earlier, but she had managed to lower her head in time,

successfully avoiding his gaze.

He looked a lot older than she remembered. He was no longer the vibrant, charismatic man he used to

be.

Seeing him brought back a flood of memories she had been trying to forget, leaving her in a sour

mood.

Staying in the same hospital as him made her restless. She was unable to rest properly.

“Bertha, my injuries are fine. But being here is bad for my mental health.”

Bertha sighed in defeat. “But you can’t leave today! At least wait three days. If the doctor says your

wound is healing well in three days, I’ll help you get discharged.”

Marlinie knew her friend was just looking out for her. She wasn’t happy about it, but she didn’t argue.

Three days would pass quickly. As long as she stayed in her room, she wouldn’t run into him.

“Alright. Three days it is.”

There was a knock on the door, and Lea, always keen, rushed to open it.

A group of men in black suits were standing at the door with Arnold in tow. “Miss, we’ve brought him!”

They respectfully said.
