She Was Amused
“Oh, really? What if you are just lying to me?”
Karen sounded helpless but she seemed to feel terrible.
Gloria said with resignation, “No, I’m not lying to you!”
“Are you free this evening? Do you want to have dinner with me? They are not home. Just the two of
us.”
Karen sounded pitiful, as if she were afraid Gloria would say no.
If they talked face to face, Gloria might see her expectant eyes.
Gloria naturally didn’t want to disappoint her, so she could only say with a smile, “OK, let’s have dinner
together.”
“Really? You will come, right?”
Gloria chuckled, “Grandma, I never lied to you, did I?”
If the other people of the Collins family were not at home, she guessed she could have dinner and chat
with grandma. She didn’t want to go to their place before, because not all Collins liked her.
“Great!” Karen was so happy and she immediately added, “They’re all out. Come here when you finish
your work. I will be waiting for you at home.”
Gloria chuckled, “OK.”
Then they said something else and hung up.
Nydia looked at Gloria, “You’ll go to the Collins family?”
“Yes, we can stroll around later, and then I’ll go to grandma. She’s bored at home.” Gloria said
earnestly.
Nydia laughed, “Old people from big families always despise the poor and curry favor with the rich, and
they often look down on the women who marry into their families. However, Mrs. Collins is so gentle
and nice to you, as if you were her own granddaughter.”
Gloria smiled, “Yes, I was also surprised. Grandma was very kind to me and loved me very much
before. When I got divorced, I was wondering if she would be disappointed with me. However, she was
just afraid that I would be looked down upon by others after I got divorced. At the birthday banquet, she
specially announced in front of the guests that she would treat me as her own granddaughter, which
really surprised me.”
Nydia chuckled, “Yeah, I was dumbfounded back then. It’s just… she’s one of the Collins family, and
you neither wanted to upset and disappoint her nor wanted to see the Collins family often. It’s hard for
you…”
Gloria curled her lip, “Sometimes, I don’t have other choices.”
After eating, they strolled around until about 2. pm.
Then they said goodbye. Gloria arrived at the Collins’ old mansion at 3. pm. She guessed that Karen
probably had been awake for half an hour from her afternoon sleep.
Karen saw Gloria’s figure and was immediately surprised. She didn’t expect that she would come here
so early. Then she took her hand happily.
“Good girl, you really came to see me so early!”
Gloria laughed, “You still didn’t believe that I would come?”
“I thought you were just saying! It’s been such a long time since you came to see me!” Karen
complained, gripping Gloria’s hand.
They sat on the sofa together, and Gloria was amused, “Don’t worry. I’ll come to see you when I have
time.”
