Rachel pursed her lips and said nothing, signaling her to continue.
The head of the design department pushed her glasses back onto her nose and said, “Actually, our
design hits a bottleneck, but this is not about our style. It’s just that customers become pickier, and
designers find it hard to deal with that.”
She sounded as if she was trying to evade her responsibility.
Rachel looked at her with a frown. “It’s hard to satisfy every customer indeed, but you have to make
adjustments.”
The director shook her head and said, “No, no, Miss Roberts, I wasn’t saying we had a design problem.
Instead, I’m stating the fact that there is no problem with our design in terms of color palette and
distribution. Our team works hard. I think if a top designer joins us, or we just use good her name, we’ll
have a breakthrough.”
Rachel’s face dropped. She didn’t say anything.
The director winked at her subordinates, and a male one hurriedly got up and projected the design draft
onto a screen.
The screen showed a model wearing the clothes and jewelry they designed. Both were in a high–end
style but not too fancy.
When Rachel saw this, her set face went slack. The design is OK.
Rachel remained silent.
The director peeked at Rachel and said, “If we put this design on the market, the market’s response will
be pretty much the same as last year. If it keeps going like this, that means we don’t make any further
progress. It’s not good for our development.”
The ambitious director always wanted her department to be the top dog, so she tried hard to pull off
something that really pleased Rachel.

Rachel looked at the director. She’s responsible and bold, but she’s not patient. If I leave it to her, I’m
