Angela’s tears kept falling. She believed in her mother’s words. Given Martha’s character, she would

him.

Angela stared at him and saw him shudder. She didn’t feel sorry for him. Far from it, she wanted to tell
him that it was too late to regret it now.
At first, she had taken Gloria’s words with a pinch of salt. She couldn’t believe that it was true.
Why isn’t it a lie? Why?
Her sorrow was beyond words, and she felt breathless.
