“What is it?” She knew that Old Joseph sounded so humble only for Karen’s sake.
Gloria cared about Karen and would do anything for her.
She would not stand by.
Jordy uttered no sound but shut off the engine before she answered the phone.
It was quiet in the car, and the old man didn’t know that the speakerphone was on.

“Don’t take it too hard.” She looked at Jordy in a way as if she could know more about Old Joseph
through Jordy’s expressions.

“Will you forgive me?” Old Joseph sounded guilty and expectant.
Gloria curled her lips and chuckled, “I’ve never hated you. Don’t beat yourself up.”
