"What?"
Nicole thought she hallucinated.
He was fine yesterday. How come he died today?
"Did you torture him?"
"No. Though we forced him to confess, we didn't really hurt him, you know, because of his identity."
Hearing that, Nicole frowned.
"Have you got him a doctor?"
"Mr. Blair checked him, saying he died of myocardial infarction."
Laurence told her honestly.
"Does he have heart problems?"
"We don't know."
Nicole realized she thought too much. Gerry just came here, while Samuel and she just knew him. How
could they possibly know about his health?
Now that Gerry had died here, what would happen to Uncle Elvis?
No matter whether this Gerry was real or fake, now his death upset her greatly.
"Wait, I'll go find Samuel."
Nicole felt that this thing was a little out of her control.
She hastened upstairs. Samuel was still unconscious and looked very tired.
Nicole woke Samuel up.
"Samuel, wake up. Something's wrong."
Samuel opened his eyes and subconsciously hugged Nicole. He said in a hoarse voice, "Why did you
get up so early? Come into my arms."
"Samuel, something's up. Gerry died."
"So what?"
Samuel subconsciously said that, and then he repeated it in his mind for a while before he suddenly
regained senses.
"What did you say? Who died?"
"Gerry, he died of myocardial infarction. Blair is still there. Do you want to go there and take a look
now?"
Nicole said quickly.
Samuel was now completely sober.
"Why did he suddenly die?"
"I don't know. I always feel something is wrong, but I can't tell what is wrong."
Nicole's sixth sense told her that.
Seeing her worries, Samuel comforted her with a smile and said, "Don't worry. It will be fine. I'll go take
a look. Be careful at home. You don't need to visit Zoe and Joseph. I'll ask Zac to exchange Petty."
"No. I can handle it. Lucas is going back to the army tomorrow. He decided to start his career in the
army."
Nicole thought she should tell Samuel about that.
Samuel paused, and nodded.
"That's good. It's not bad for him to be trained in the army where he can be down-to-earth."
Although he said that, Nicole knew that Samuel was unhappy to part with Lucas.
"Do you want to talk to him?"
"Alright."
Samuel put on his clothes and said.
Laurence was still waiting, but he directly went to Lucas' room and knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Lucas’ voice was clear and chilly, which made him a little like Samuel.
Samuel felt somewhat sad when he saw Lucas packing his things himself.
"Have you set your mind on this?"
Lucas paused for a moment and turned to look at Samuel. Seeing deep emotion in Samuel's eyes, he
suddenly smiled and said, "Samuel, you don't want me to go, right?"
"No, I don't."
Samuel was honest this time.
Lucas was surprised, and then he was touched.
"I will come back to see you every week."
"Study hard. If you don't want to stay there, come back. Even if you do nothing, Daddy can support
you."
Samuel rarely spoke like this before, but at this moment, Lucas did not refute. Instead, he stepped
forward and held Samuel tightly. He put his head on Samuel's shoulder and whispered, "Samuel, I
might not leave if you stay here."
"You can stay here."
Samuel squatted down and held Lucas.
His son was much stronger than when he just came back. However, it has been almost a year, during
which he and his son only spent a little time together.
Lucas really wanted to stay, but after thinking about Joseph and Zoe, he let Samuel go.
"Samuel, you are a bad guy. How can you let your son fiddle around?"
Samuel could clearly see tears flickering in Lucas’ eyes.
This naughty kid!
"Alright. After you go there, call me when you need me."
"Okay."
Lucas promised his father.
Samuel took out a credit card and gave it to him.
"Take it. Money is important. Take good care of yourself outside."
"I will."
Lucas took the card.
After bidding farewell to Lucas, Samuel returned to the living room. The first thing he said when he saw
Laurence was, "Is Blair still there?"
"Yes."
"Let's go."
Samuel looked at Nicole and turned to leave.
Laurence followed Samuel.
Nicole was depressed because of these concerns.
She didn't even notice Melissa coming out.
"Hey, what are you looking at?"
Melissa put her hand on Nicole's shoulder, startling her.
"You came out without making a sound?"
Nicole's tone was not friendly.
However, Melissa shrugged her shoulders and said, "If one doesn't do anything wrong, one would not
be afraid of ghosts knocking on the door. It's not even night yet. What are you afraid of? Did you do
something wrong?"
"I don't want to tell you."
Nicole turned around to leave, but was stopped by Melissa.
"Hey, I've been cooking breakfast all morning. You should at least eat some."
Nicole turned to look at the dining table. There were four dishes and one soup, looking delicious and
smelling good. Unfortunately, she didn't have any appetite right now.
"You go eat. I'm not hungry."
Hearing this, Melissa looked sullen.
"Do you look down on me? Or you think I'll poison the food?"
Melissa's harsh tone stunned Nicole.
She looked at Melissa. Although Melissa still seemed to be untrustworthy, Nicole decided not to argue
with her considering her labor in the early morning.
"Fine, I'll eat some."
Nicole stood up and entered the dining room.
Melissa did not appreciate it.
"If you don't want to eat, then don't eat. Listen, I'm not forcing you to eat. I don't want to be blamed if
you have a stomach ache after eating. So, you'd better not eat."
As Melissa spoke, she tried to grab Nicole's bowls and chopsticks.
Nicole thought Melissa was making nonsense.
"That's enough. There are too many things troubling us. Can you stop messing up?"
Nicole picked up a bowl and served herself some food, then silently ate it.
Melissa looked at her thoughtfully, but she also silently picked up the bowl and started eating.
A silent meal.
Nicole was the first to finish it.
Wendy walked over and said, "Mrs. Green, Mr. Bush is coming."
Nicole was slightly stunned.
"Dad?"
She hastened out.
Melissa did not have much reaction. She slowly finished her meal before she got up and went to the
living room. Nicole had already brought Dad Bush in.
Dad Bush was happy when he saw Melissa.
"Melissa, I've made an appointment with Seuss. I'll bring you to visit him later. Pack up, I bought you a
violin. Don't be bad-tempered when you go there."
"I see."
Melissa said impatiently.
When Nicole remembered how her father bought this violin, she felt somewhat uncomfortable.
"Dad, sit down. I'll get Melissa some clothes."
"What clothes?"
Melissa frowned slightly. "You haven't bought me any clothes yet. What are you taking? The clothes
you don't want to wear? I'm not your recycle bin."
Nicole disliked Melissa's sharp tongue, but in front of her father, she still gave Melissa face.
"I had someone buy them for you yesterday, but I haven't had time to give to you."
Nicole asked Wendy to buy yesterday before she went out. However, so many things happened that
she didn't remember it until Dad Bush came.
Melissa sneered and said, "Maybe you are lying."
"What's the point of me lying to you?"
After saying that, Nicole turned around and left.
Dad Bush did not expect the way that Nicole and Melissa got along with each other. He was a little
shocked. After Nicole went upstairs, he pulled Melissa and said, "Don't talk to your elder sister in that
way."
"Elder sister? She was just born five minutes earlier than me."
"She would be your elder sister even she was born one minute earlier than you. Melissa, although I
have raised her, she is not our own child. She and her birth parents were dignified and powerful, while
Mr. and Mrs. Bush are going down with reputation fading away. If it weren't for your sister and brother-
in-law taking care of us, your mother and I might live hard. You just came back, and we can't give you
much. Follow her to get in touch with the upper class, and find a good husband. Then you'll have a
bright future. Do you understand? "
Dad Bush spoke in a low voice and glanced at the stairs all the time in case Nicole would suddenly
appear and hear him.
Melissa waved her hand impatiently and said, "I know. I know. Nicole went outside all day yesterday
without taking me. Do you really think she would raise me up to repay your parenting? Stop day-
dreaming. She took her son out without taking me yesterday, and I think she simply wants me to
disappear from her sight."
"It's not possible. She was raised by me, and I know her well. Your mother and I have sent you here
without telling her. We were wrong and she's smart enough to know why. She might have something to
do. Today after you visit Seuss back, ask her to take you out. As long as you ask her, I don't think she
will refuse."
Dad Bush was so confident that he didn't pay any attention to when Lucas showed up.
Lucas frowned and spoke coldly.
"Grandfather, my mother is pregnant and in poor health. And my brother and sister are hospitalized. I'm
afraid my mother would be very busy during this period and not have time to take her out."
Lucas’ voice wasn't loud, but it was like a slap hitting Dad Bush's face. He was so ashamed that he
wished to escape now. Lucas was looking straight at him with his clear eyes, and he felt even more
ashamed.
"Oh, really? Is your mother pregnant? I don't even know. Sorry, I didn't prepare any gifts."
Dad Bush smiled awkwardly.
"Gifts?"
Nicole happened to come down and asked when she heard this.
Lucas wanted to speak, but Melissa stopped him.
