Nicole was shocked. Still, she stopped Amelia quickly.
"Did you kill him?"
Amelia's eyes were scarlet. She was clearly a little mad.
Nicole was afraid that the people outside would hear the noise and had no choice but to knock Amelia
unconscious.
Seeing Nicole's move, Samuel whispered, "I think we'll have to take them with us."
"What did you two say just now?"
Nicole knew that Samuel wanted to have a private conversation with Jarrod when she was asked to
leave.
Samuel said, "I'll explain later. Let's see if there's any food here. I guess we'll have to wait for a while
before we can find a way out."
"OK."
When they were outside, Nicole trusted Samuel unconditionally.
She laid Amelia down beside Jarrod, and passed the water she had just gotten to Samuel.
Samuel took a sip and left some for Nicole, and said, "The Bryan Town is not far from the Harper Town.
The mountains are connected. I wonder if we can return to the Harper Town through the mountains."
"Are you planning to go back to the Harper Town?"
Nicole was surprised.
Samuel nodded and said, "Yes, I think that the Harper Town is the key to unravel all the mysteries.
Perhaps Emory is also there."
"Then what about Zoe and Lucas?"
Nicole was worried about the children.
Samuel said, "Call Joseph and tell him to contact Morgan. Morgan can to send them away or bring
them to the Harper Town."
"Why don't you contact Morgan?"
Nicole was puzzled.
Samuel's eyes flicked as he whispered, "I don't want to."
Nicole recognized Samuel's rejection from his words, but there was nothing she could do about it. He
was now leader of the Harper Town, and there were things that he could not avoid doing.
They leaned against each other and rested.
"Are you hurt? I can dress your wounds."
Samuel was a little sleepy, but now in this place, he dared not to rest or sleep.
"No, I'm fine. You can sleep for a while. I'll keep watch."
Seeing the dark circles beneath Samuel's eyes, Nicole felt distressed.
"You should get some sleep. You never sleep much and you are not very well now. There's still a long
way to go. We'll have to take Amelia out of here, so sleep for a while, OK?"
Samuel stroked Nicole's head. His gentle gaze made Nicole feel warm.
"OK."
She knew that she was not strong enough, so she closed her eyes and rested.
Soon, Nicole fell asleep.
The sound of footsteps could be heard continuously. Patrols passed by, but no one expected that they
would hide in the ancestral hall.
Jarrod did not sleep for long. He woke up after about an hour, looking much better. When he saw
Samuel on guard, he paused. Then he found Amelia who had fallen asleep, and his gaze became
gentle.
"Sleep for a while. I'll be on guard."
Samuel nodded and slept.
He was really tired.
Samuel was not vigilant against Jarrod, because his intuition told him that Jarrod could be trusted.
Jarrod had mixed feelings.
As long as he shouted now, Samuel and Nicole would be caught by Aaron. Then he was still Aaron's
good son and only successor.
He glanced at Amelia.
She had been with him for so long, and now, Samuel agreed to take her out. This was not easy for
Jarrod.
After so many years of dangerous life, he had almost forgotten what love was.
Twelve years of company made him believe that he was used to having her around. However, only
when seeing how sad Amelia was after losing her child, Jarrod realized he loved her.
Jarrod couldn't care less about whether she was Aaron's spy.
As he stroked Amelia's long hair, bits and pieces of their past flashed through his mind.
There was never sweet talk between them. In the beginning, it was only erotic impulse. They kept each
other accompanied in their lonely killer careers. And it was precisely because of this that they loved
each other, unable to extricate themselves.
Jarrod had never thought that one day he would be troubled by love, so he could not help but smile
bitterly.
He took out his phone and found the map of nearby area. After pondering for a long time, he made his
decision.
Jarrod sent the map to Samuel who had woken up by then.
Samuel opened his eyes when he heard the vibrations of his phone and saw Jarrod holding the phone.
Samuel checked Jarrod's message and was surprised to see the map of the mountains.
"This is..."
"There is path leading from the ancestral hall to the mountains behind. You can find a secret entrance
there. If you follow the trail, you will arrive at the Harper Town."
Jarrod's voice was low, but Samuel recognized a trace of determination.
Jarrod completely sold Aaron out.
This map of the mountains should be an absolute secret. Other than Aaron himself, perhaps only
Jarrod knew about it, but now he told Samuel about it.
Samuel's heart ached.
"Come with us."
"I need to stay here to investigate William's whereabouts."
Jarrod was shocked by Samuel's words. He smiled but did not agree.
Samuel replied, "We can find William's whereabouts ourselves. You don't have to investigate. Now that
you've told us Aaron's biggest secret, he won't let you get away with this even if you are his son. I don't
have any relatives anymore, and I don't want to be regret later. Jarrod, come with us."
Jarrod's body stiffened and his eyes were somewhat warm.
He thought that he would never get Samuel's approval, but he didn't expect that a map would do the
trick.
Jarrod smiled, "You're so easy to fool. How do you know that I'm giving you a real map?"
"You won't risk Amelia's life."
"She is just a toy given to me by my father. Do you really think I care about her?"
Samuel wasn't happy to hear this.
"There's no need to probe into my thought with these words. Jarrod, if everything you've done is just for
a sympathy-getting ploy, then I will concede defeat."
Jarrod trembled when he heard this.
He looked up at Samuel and asked in a trembling voice, "What does that mean?"
"I mean that even if you lied to me and hurt me, I accept it. After all, you are my brother."
Jarrod was moved by the words.
He looked away and said, "You're worse than Vincent. He never said such things."
"That's because Vincent hadn't had the chance. No matter how we grow up, we are brothers. Eight
years ago, I didn't manage to help Vincent, and now I don't want to regret it. Jarrod, come with us."
Samuel was serious.
Jarrod shook his head and said, "If I leave, you will be exposed. If I stay here, I can at least buy you
three to five days. By then, you may have returned to the Harper Town. There you'll find ways to help
me. It is better than we all die in the mountains."
"But..."
"Samuel, you are not an indecisive person. You have been on the battlefield, and you know what is the
best choice, don't you? I'll cover your back, and you can trust me. Don't worry. I'm not stupid enough to
wait for my father to find out everything and kill me. There are so many bugs here. I will get myself
asleep. My life will be hanging on the line. Only then will my father believe that I am not on your side."
Jarrod had made his plans.
However, Samuel extremely disdained bugs.
"Don't risk your own life!"
"I won't die! Even if I have one breath left, I'll wait for you to come and save me."
Jarrod's eyes shone brightly.
At this moment, Samuel felt sad.
"You..."
"Amelia knows all about my power. If you need, just ask her to dispatch them. I will text Amelia all the
necessary information. Now, you guys get prepared and leave."
Jarrod knew that they couldn't stay here for long.
The longer they stayed, the more dangerous they would be.
Nicole woke up. After hearing Jarrod's words, she did not say anything, but her eyes were moist.
"Jarrod, don't worry. I will take good care of your wife."
Nicole's words almost made Jarrod cry.
"Nicole knows what I want to hear, but the two of us didn't even have a wedding. If possible, I really
want to marry her in front of everyone."
"This day will surly come."
Nicole said firmly.
Jarrod smiled brightly.
When smiling, he looked a lot like Samuel.
Samuel's eyes were somewhat warm as she wrapped his arms around Nicole and whispered, "Let's
take Amelia with us."
"Alright."
Nicole nodded. Then, she helped Amelia leave from a corner of the ancestral hall according to the
route Jarrod had given them.
If Jarrod hadn't told them, they would have been trapped here for a year without finding the secret
passage. It was behind Zama's memorial tablet.
Samuel looked back at Jarrod with a troubled expression, and then followed Nicole and Amelia into the
passage.
Jarrod smiled indifferently, as if this was just an ordinary parting and nothing bad would happen.
After the three left, the smile on Jarrod's face faded.
He sneered as he looked at the familiar and cold ancestral hall and Zama's tablet. "Mom, I'm sorry that
I might disappoint you. I can't protect the person you love anymore. I just want to live and live the life I
want. This is also what you want, right? So you won't blame me, will you?"
Then Jarrod took out a small box from the bottom of Zama's tablet.
The moment the box was opened, a golden bug rushed out and went straight into Jarrod's nostril.
Jarrod staggered, spitting out a mouthful of blood, and then he fainted.
